I. Erasmus Mundus and Biohealth Compunting

A. General information

Named after the prominent 15th-century Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus of
Rotterdam and highlighted by the Latin word mundus, which stands for world, the
programme Erasmus Mundus promotes the European Union as a centre of
excellence in learning around the globe.

Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher
education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to
promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through
cooperation with Third-Countries.

The European Commission is responsible for the running of the Erasmus Mundus
Programme 2009-2013. It manages the budget and sets priorities, targets and criteria
for the Programme. Furthermore, the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive
Agency (EACEA) is responsible for the implementation of the Erasmus Mundus
Programme

1. Integration period:
In order to facilitate the exchange between students, academia, hospitals and
industry partners, conferences and workshops will be organized:

Interactive Training Initiative (ITI). Introductory conferences are given by
internationally recognize scientists on Systems Biology. You are invited to work
together to solve a R&D problem submitted by an industrial partner. The ITI will to
provide you with tools to respond to a challenging situation in translationnal
programmes: pluridisciplinary approach, social and ethical responsibility, project
management business plan and grant writing.

Conference Talks (CT); Poster Sessions (PS) and Partnering Event (PE). The
BioHealth Computing GS invite each year senior researchers to present conferences
(CT), and young academic and private attendees to submit posters (PS) exhibiting
their findings in Systems Biology. The aim of the PE is to gather academic, medical
and industrial partners interested in building technology partnerships. The event will
focus on applied research results from academia and new medical or pharmaceutical
technologies developed by companies in the fields of Systems Biology.

The first class of Master will be hosted as part of the Summer School organized by
the University Joseph Fourier, from August 24th to 31st 2012.The promotion will
then be distributed among the five partner universities from September 2012 to
September 2013.
2. Fall term (Advanced courses):
The first semester (from September to January) is dedicated to advanced courses
and is divided into four tracks, connecting each other to basic fields of application,
and to entrance requirements: Clinical Research; Molecular Biotechnology;
Environmental and Animal Health and Computational Mathematics.

3. Spring term (Research Project):
The second semester (from January to August) gives you the opportunity to put your
knowledge into practice in a Mentored Research Project. The aim of the Joint
Research Project is to allow you to master concepts, methodologies and tools
acquired during the previous semesters, by giving you an opportunity to develop a
translational project, which requires a genuine interdisciplinary approach.

C. Erasmus Mundus Students Alumni Association

The Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association (EMA) is a network for
students and alumni of all Erasmus Mundus Masters Course (EMMC)
programmes.

The mission of the Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni Association
is to serve the interests of Erasmus Mundus Students and Alumni,
notably by providing a forum for networking, communication and
collaboration and by promoting Erasmus Mundus as a European
programme of excellence in international education.

D. Job opportunities
New opportunities in Service and Discovery

The students having successfully carried out the two periods of study will be awarded
a Double Degree, consisting of two independent national degrees, signed by the
hosting universities, and an Original Diploma "BioHealth Computing Ms", signed by
all the Partner Universities.

Investigators In R&D Department
The innovative approach, of BioHealth Computing Ms programme, carries a
significant potential in engineering design and progress driving in Clinical and Life
industries. More and more, labs and R&D department of industries in Clinical and Life
Sciences are putting the core concept of Systems biology properly into practice by
informing their research through the iterative cycle between experimentation and
modelling.
Large pharma and medtech industries need investigators driven by biology questions
who can analyze data from different areas, approaching biology in a quantitative
fashion. And Small and Medium sized Biotech Enterprises enroll people to develop
software solutions for companies to handle their big amount of data effectively.

II. LUniversit Joseph Fourier (UJF)


The University Joseph Fourier (UJF) is one of Europe's leading universities. It offers
its students high-quality education, providing them with a passport to the professional
world.

The UJF has acquired this international status through the quality of its teaching and
the excellence of its research, much of which takes place in collaboration with major
international and national organizations. Moreover, the attractive environment of the
University City at the gateway to the Alps, with its large scientific community, has
encouraged many international companies to move here.

The UJFs priority is to expand its scientific disciplines in order to foster innovation.
The universities laboratories are a constant source of new ideas, whether in physics,
mathematics, computer science, chemistry, biology or mechanics. New fields of study
have recently emerged, such as nanoscience and nanotechnology, biotechnology,
the environment and sustainable development. The UJF has also become
increasingly involved in the development and transfer of new technologies and in
supporting research projects right through to the stage when they begin to provide
economic benefits.

Through its research and teaching activities the UJF is striving to meet the current
needs of society, whether in respect of students' professional careers, lifelong
learning, the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge or the creation of
wealth and employment.

E. Administrative procedure
1. Visa and student permit for France
IMPORTANT
Please note that the administrative procedure for the visa may be subject to
modification for the beginning of the academic year

European (or from the European Economic Area or from Switzerland) students

You only need a valid identity card (or a valid passport) as the residence permit is no
longer compulsory for you (as of January 1, 2007).

Non-European or non EEA students (rest of the world)

The visa delivered by the French Consulate abroad is a long-stay visa (visa VLS-TS)
and equivalent to a first residence permit.


+ BEFORE ARRIVAL:

O As international student coming to France, you apply for an extended-stay visa
with residency permit (commonly called VLS-TS) in the French embassy or
consulate or embassy of your home country.

O When the VLS-TS visa will be issued, the embassy or consulate will give you an
official form (with instructions) that you will present to the French Office of
Immigration and integration (OFII) once arrived in France.

+ UPON ARRIVAL:

O You have to send to the OFII by registered mail (return receipt requested) the
following documents:

- the official form received by the French consulate or embassy that issued your visa
- a copy of your passport pages showing your identity and the stamp indicating entry
into France (or into the Schengen area)

O Upon receipt on these documents, the OFII will record your application and
send you back (by regular mail to the address you indicated in France):
- a letter acknowledging receipt of the form
- a notification for a mandatory lung X-ray and a medical examination
- the list of the additional compulsory documents

O You present yourself at the Grenoble University Health Centre (Centre de sant
de lUniversit de Grenoble) for the X-ray and the medical examination

O You must present yourself at the OFII, with the following documents
- passport
- medical certificate validated by the Health Centre
- proof of domicile (a rent receipt, the electricity or gas or water bill under your
name). If you are housed, you shall present a certificate of accommodation as well as
a photocopy of the identity card and proof of residency of the hosting person.
- passport photo (full-face, bare-headed)
- official taxed stamp of 55 (Timbre fiscal)

Thus, the OFII will examine your application and definitively validate your long-
term-stay visa equivalent to a residency permit (VLS-TS).

2. Enrolment (necessary documents)
Administrative registration at our university is only carried out once you arrived in
Grenoble, often after classes have already started. You will need the following
documents:

- your passport or identity card
- copy of your birth certificate
- 3 photos (ID size : 2.7 cm by 2.7 cm)
- proof of your liability insurance
- proof of your health care coverage
- originals of your last diploma and/or transcripts of records
3. Insurance
The Erasmus Mundus programme offers special cover to its scholarship students at
no extra cost.
So as student selected for an Erasmus Mundus master programme, you will
automatically receive a free medical insurance cover. This covers your unexpected
medical expenses in the European countries you visit during your Masters Course. It
also provides accident cover and protects you against some costs arising from civil
liabilities (a kind of third-party insurance which is required in many European
countries).

This medical coverage also applies during periods of travel during the Erasmus
Mundus Masters course. The insurers will also provide you with assistance if you
loose your passport, tickets or other travel documents. However, it is not a
comprehensive travel insurance. If you wish to be covered for eventualities such as
the loss or theft of money, personal belongings and items of value, or for the
unexpected costs caused by travel delays, you are advised to take out additional
cover with a private insurer.

We will give you your insurance card with your personal policy details.

In France Health Insurance is mandatory. Whatever your
nationality is, you are entitled to register at the Student Social
Security Coverage. For your administrative registration, you must
take out the French Social Security (commonly called Scurit
Sociale).

Except in the following cases:

Students with European nationality will have to present their European Health
Insurance Card (EHIC). Check the validity date of your card; it should cover the
whole academic year. Reimbursement claims are to be addressed to the Service
International de la Caisse Primaire dAssurance Maladie (CPAM).

Students from Quebec will have to present their RAMQ form n SE 401 Q 106 (for
academic programmes) or Q 104 (for an internship).

Students who are over 28 years old cannot take out the French Social Security


NB: In the Health Center (common to all Grenoble Universities) you
have access to many free services including : reception services,
consultations and preventive medicine in the areas of general
medicine, nursing care, gynecology, psychology, diet and nutrition,
tobacco addiction, disabilities, etc.



4. Bank account
UJF opened a French Bank Account for you with LCL. A financial adviser from LCL
will explain you what they propose on August 31
st
in Grenoble. We will give you your
bank card and your code that day.
Your card will cover accommodation insurance in France.

In case you loose or you are robbed from your LCL credit card, you should

2. Housing
We have the possibility to help you in finding accommodation thanks to the
accommodation office of the University of Grenoble.

The accommodation office of the University
of Grenoble is a social organism that helps
foreign students to find accommodation
according to their financial resources. The
priority for cheapest residences is given to
the neediest students. Besides, the
accommodation office makes the final
lodging proposal according to the possibilities
offered.

You also have the possibility to find an accommodation by yourself but you have to
be aware that accommodation is rather expensive in Grenoble. Besides, you will
have to find a guarantor in France who can stand surety for you.

If your stay in Grenoble exceeds three months and if you own a residence permit,
you can apply for financial aid for accommodation delivered by the CAF (Caisse
d'Allocations Familiales).

3. University Restaurant
You can have meals in a university restaurant on campus or downtown (meal price: 3
if paid with the MONEO card).

The MONEO card can be delivered on request at your arrival at the university (the
first MONEO card is free), application form on the CROUS website.

4. Transport
TRAM & BUSES
TAG (Tranport de lAgglomration Grenobloise) is the local
public transport company in Grenoble. 4 tram lines and many
bus routes operate day and night. One-month student travel
pass entitles you to unlimited travels on the urban public

transport network (on sale on campus bureau de tabac and in Grenoble in the
Tourist Office)

Enjoy the 260 km of safe cycle tracks throughout the urban area !!!

In Grenoble, METROVELO offers the following services: Bike rental by hour, day,
month, 3 months, 6 months or year (reduced rates for students)

Lyon St Exupry airport is 1 hour away by road. There is also a shuttle from Grenoble

The train is a public transport widely used in France. The French National Railway
Company is commonly called SNCF

G. Social and cultural life

You will find many ways to spend your spare time in Grenoble. You will have the
opportunity to discover the surrounding mountains, covered with snow all winter long
(ski resorts are only thirty minutes away by bus!) Springtime and fall are perfect for
long walks in the forests and mountain climbing. Summer is warm! Swimming pools
and lakes are perfect for relaxing.

Grenoble is a nice, human-sized town. You will enjoy walks in the old city center. And
don't forget our modern art museum!!

There are about 250 student associations in Grenoble.

The student social centre EVE is a place to meet other students. It organizes
meetings, concerts, parties and offers many other student services. You will also find
a coffee house, radio station for students (Radio Campus 90.8), a reading room,
information on cultural and leisure activities, numerous student associations,
reception services for foreign students, etc.

Find a job during your studies

You can work during your studies once you have enrolled in an institution that entitles
you to student social security. If you are not a citizen of a country in the EEA
(European Economic Area), you must have a residence permit and apply for a
temporary work permit from the local "Direction Dpartementale du Travail, de
l'Emploi et de la Formation Professionnelle"- DDTEFP (Work, Employment and
Training Directorate). The legal working week in France is of about 35 hours.
According to French law, foreign students can work up to 964 hours a year. The
gross minimum wage (SMIC) is of 9.00 euros an hour (rate in 2011).

I. Administrative procedure
1. Visa and student permit for Spain
= Non-European or non EEA students (rest of the world)

You need to obtain a student visa before leaving your country. Visas can be obtained
from your nearest Spanish embassy or consulate.

From your visa to your Student residence permit, step by step

BEFORE ARRIVAL: apply for a long duration visa

Get in touch with the Spanish embassy / consulate and ask for the needed
documentation to be provided by you for applying for a student visa. This
documentation might slightly differ from since it might depend from one country to
another.

You will be given an application to be filled in and the precise list of documents to be
provided.

In any case, applicants should submit the documents that show that they have been
admitted to a program.

IMPORTANT:
You should apply for a student visa for long duration. Even though your stay in
Barcelona might be shorter than 6 months, you should ask for a long duration student
visa. DO NOT APPLY for a short duration visa (up to 6 months, actually a student
visa bearing the statement ESTUDIOS TOTAL 180 DAS. With this type of visa it
is impossible to get a student residence card once youll be in Spain.

In case you intend to come to Barcelona with family members (wife, husband,
children) that do not belong to the European Union you should also apply for a visa
for them.

Who should contact at the University of Barcelona if you need a specific support for
your visa?

In case you are requested a specific document from the Spanish embassy /
consulate that you do not dispose of so far (such as for instance the address you will
live in Barcelona), please get in touch by email with:

Anna Romero or Oscar Villameizar (international office of the University of
Barcelona). Both of them have your data and are used to give support to students
that have specific difficulties for having a visa. In particular, in case the Spanish
embassy / consulate request from you a direction of housing in Barcelona they can
provide you a stamped certificate with a provisional address.

UPON ARRIVAL: get your student residence permit (NIE)

You will dispose of maximum one month for applying for a student residence card
(NIE) that will allow you to stay legally in Spain.

To be able to remain legally in Spain you will need to obtain a student residence card
(NIE) This document allows you to live in Spain during your period of study, and also
allows you to make short duration travels throughout the European Union and in
countries that have signed agreements with Spain or the European Union for the free
movement of persons

You should follow the three steps for getting your NIE:

Step 1: Enrol to the University of Barcelona

Where?

On arrival to Barcelona, you will be given the office and the contact person where you
will formally enrol to the Barcelona University.

What document should you provide for enrolling at the UB?

No matter the BioHC study track you will follow, you will be requested a few
documents for enrolling at the UB (visa, etc). Upon arrival to Barcelona you will
receive an email with the detailed information.

What certificate should you request from the UB for being able to apply for
your student residence permit?

(Numero de Identificacin de Extranjero) should specify the duration of your
studies to be followed in Spain

Step 2 Get your Municipal register certificate

What is the municipal register certificate?

First of all, remember the meaning of the following words:

padrn = municipal register
empadronarse= To register in the municipality
certificado de empadronamiento = Certificate of municipal register

The Padrn is compulsory and cost free. Certificado de empadronamiento is the
document that will be required from you for justifying your address in any Spanish
municipality. With a padrn a Spanish or EU resident has the right to access to
public health and public education for his children. For a non EU Student it is a
document that you will be requested to get your student residence card called NIE-
Numero de Identificacin de Extranjeros in Spanish. Therefore you have to
empadronarte upon arrival.

Where?

You should go to the Oficina de atenci al cuitadans (Local citizen office) from your
district in Barcelona ( or in the suburbs city you live in). This office depends from the
town hall (Ayuntament)

What documents are needed to get the municipal register certificate?

1. Completed application form for the padrn in Barcelona (it will be given to
you directly in the office).
2. Passport (original)
3. Accommodation rent contract that indicates your name and address. It should
be the original document

If you have provided properly the requested documentation and filled in correctly the
form, the stamped town hall certificate (padrn) will be given to you immediately. No
need to come back again.

Step 3. Get your Student residence permit: NIE

Important: as long as you havent got your NIE, it is strongly advisable NOT to leave
Spain since you might have difficulties for entering again into the country.

What is the NIE?

NIE means Numero de Identificacin de Extranjero (foreigner identification
number). In the case of foreign students, it corresponds to a student residence card.
As a non EU student, NIE is compulsory if you whish to stay and study legally in
Spain.

IMPORTANT:
When you bring your documentation at the Police station with the form filled in, you
will be given the form (model 790) for the payment of fees you will pay when you
will go again to the police station for fetching your final NIE card.

= EU students

BEFORE ARRIVAL:

You should apply for a European Social Security Card in your country of origin and
make sure you enter in Spain with a valid passport and identity card.

UPON ARRIVAL

For living legally, in Spain, you only need a valid identity card (or a valid passport) as
the student residence card (NIE: Numero de Identificacin de Extranjeros) is no
longer compulsory for you. Still you would need to enrol at the university (step 1) and
at the municipal register (step 2), and get a certificate of registration as EU citizen
(step 3)

Step 1: Enrol to the University of Barcelona

Exactly the same as for non EU student.

Step 2: Get your Town hall register certificate

Register to the town hall is compulsory also for EU citizens and will give you access
to public health.

Administrative procedures for getting your town hall register certificate are exactly the
same as those applying for non EU resident. (The only difference is that you can
provide your identity card instead of a Passport)

Step 3: Certificate of registration

If you are a citizen of a European Union country (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus,
Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,
Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland,
Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom) or of
Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, you are entitled to free movement
and residence in Spain.


Notwithstanding the above, all European Union citizens wishing to reside in Spain for
a period of time exceeding three months must register at the Central Registry Office
for Foreigners in order to be issued a certificate of registration.

All foreign students who come to a Spanish university must have medical insurance.
Being an Erasmus Mundus of the Bio Health Programme, a private medical
insurance has been taken out for you for all the duration of the Bio Health Computing
European Master, and therefore you will be covered while studying in Barcelona.
As indicated above on this guide, for being reimbursed, you should make sure that
you are attended by certified medical professionals. You will need to advance the
funds and then will be reimbursed.

= Access to public health care according to your country of origin

Students from members of the European Economic Area (European Union
countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and who are entitled to Social Security
in their own country, should present the European health insurance card. This card
is issued by your country's public health authorities and entitles you to public medical
care in Spain. You should request it in your country before coming to Barcelona.

Other students will be able to use only the private medical insurance that has been
already taken out for them by the general coordination of the Bio Health Computing
European Master and that will be valid for the duration of their stay at the University
of Barcelona. For enrolling at the University of Barcelona, you will be requested the
document (in Spanish, Catalan, English or French ) from this insurance company if
possible, stating that you are covered while studying in Spain.
If you come from a latin American country, ou should see if it has bilateral
agreements with Spain, in case there is such an agreement, you can receive health
care once your are registered in the municipality. In case you are entitled to public
health, you should go to the primary care centre of your district with the certificado
de empadronamiento so that it delivers you a health card (tarjeta Cat Salut de
cobertura sanitaria general).
With this card, the advantage is that you are entitled to receive public health care
(primary and hospital care) from public health care providers under the same
conditions as Spanish citizens, namely:
- medical care in a primary care centre or an hospital (100% coverage)
- medication ( 60% coverage)
- dental care (no coverage)

Visit your GP

If you go for public health, you should make an appointment with your General
Practitioner at the Primary Care Centre ( called CAP: Centro de Atencin Primaria)
you will be assigned, depending of your address in Barcelona.


Sanitat Respon

In case of a doubt or need of advice on how to deal with a health problem, you can
call the public service called Sanitat respons on 902 111 444. Health professional
would bring you guidance and advices.

4. Bank account
A bank account has already been opened for you with LCL. You will be able to make
bank transfer to Spain and withdraw money from cash dispensers in Spain with
limited charges.

Therefore, you do not really need to open a specific bank account in Spain. If for any
reason, you want additionally to open a bank account in a Spanish bank in
Barcelona, you will have no problem in doing so.

Taking into account that pickpocket is extended in Barcelona, we advise you to avoid
having large amount of cash on you.

There is a very large offer of student housing in Barcelona. Price ranges from 300
up to 800 per month, according to the type of accommodation:

- room in private student residence (the most expensive option from 500 to
800 )
- or room in a shared flat with other students/ room in a family home in
Barcelona ( from 300 to 400 ).

For finding an accommodation, we recommend you to use Resa Housing (also
called BHSS) www.reshousing.com that is head reservation office for Barcelona
University Center, an entity whose aim is to promote Barcelona as a university city
in coordination with the University of Barcelona.

How to proceed?


IMPORTANT: First of all, go to www.resahousing.com and register online. Once you
have your register code fill in the attached PDF by indicating your register
code, ticking BIOHEALTH and indicating your preferences as for the type of

accommodation. Send it by e-mail erasmusmundusub@resahousing.com and or
by fax: (0034) 93 228 92 59. This form will allow the specific Erasmus Mundus
department of Resa housing we are in touch with to provide you specific support for
getting an accommodation that suits to your criterion.

If youd rather have a room in a shared flat or a room in a family home you can use
this service in two different ways:

a) Register and already book online in advance: you should first fill in the
online form on www.resahousing.com and get a register code. If you already
want to book a room you are interested in, you will have to pay 200 of
processing fees. On arrival in Barcelona, you will sign a contract and get the
room. Important: the 200 are NOT refundable in case you finally decline the
room. Since you can easily locate the flat on Google map, and preview the
room, this option might be for you the safest one. As indicated in the PDF in
attachment, you will be charged a monthly rent as from the date the room is
actually available (this date is mentioned in each ad youll find on the
website). Therefore you should check carefully this date
b) Register, visit the room(s) and book only on arrival: you fill in the online
form on www.resahousing.com and get a register code. You do not book a
room yet, but a few days before arrival in Barcelona, you send a mail to

erasmusmundusub@resahousing.com and indicate the reference of the room(s) you
wish to visit on arrival (actually, on Monday 5 of September). If you are interested in a
room and finally sign a contract, you will also have to pay the 200 of processing
fees. With this option there is slight risk that you do not find a room that 100% suit to
your criterion.

You will see on the ads detailed on www.resahousing.com (menu accommodation)
that the costs of the room are composed of
- monthly rent: usually from 250 to 350
- Gas, water and electricity : 50 between 100 depending on the room
(specified in each ad)
- Internet (ADSL): almost all offers include access to internet for free. You
should check ADSL is marked in green on the announcement

Taking into account that you will rent a room for more than 3 months, you will be
requested on signing the rent contract to pay:
- 2 months deposit (that you will get back on leaving the room)
- 1st month of rent.

advertiser by mail or by phone in order to get further information in English.

9. Languages used in Catalonia.
There are three official language in Catalonia: Catalan, Spanish and Aranse ( a
dialect spoken in the region of the arean valley).

PEOPLE FROM NON-UE COUNTRIES
To enter and stay in Italy all non-EU citizens must have a valid passport and an
entrance study visa issued by the Italian Diplomatic Delegations in their country of
origin.
Depending on the citizenship, the duration and reasons for the stay, before coming to
Italy they must have a VISA, which can only be applied after receiving an official
invitation letter from the University chosen.

The STUDY VISA issued upon student request by the Italian diplomatic
representative allows staying in Italy for 3 months. In this case, people from a NON-

If people with a STUDY VISA from a NON-EU country stay in Italy more than 3
months, they must apply for a residence permit ("permesso di soggiorno").
The University of Torino provides a support service helping foreigners with a valid
entrance STUDY VISA to obtain the residence permit. This support service is
available only by appointment.

How to apply for a residence permit (new procedures in force from December 2006)
The application for a Residence Permit must be made within 8 working days after the
arrival in Italy.
What needs to be done first in order to apply, is requesting a tax code, an
identification number needed for the residence permit and also to open a bank
account, to enter a rent agreement, or to purchase a mobile phone.

Residence permit
As from December 2006 all applications must be made through Post Office
(administration charge: Euro 30.00). The Post Office provides a kit including the
application form and all the information concerning the documents to be presented
that is:
photocopy of ALL pages of passport, including blank pages;
certificate of acceptance/invitation letter with the official stamp of the
Consulate that issued the VISA;
letter/certificate from the University of Torino, stating the beginning of the stay;
duty stamp ("marca da bollo") Euro 14.62;
payment for the electronic permit (Euro 27.50);
completed application form;
photocopy of health insurance, as issued by UJF for BIOHC Master students
The Post Office will give back a receipt that must be kept with the passport.
Police Headquarters ("Questura") will send a registered letter asking the applicant to
go to their offices to be fingerprinted and to bring any other document required, such
as some photos.
Finally, the applicant will be called to collect the residence permit.
It is possible to check the state of your application and the requests advanced by
Police Headquarters (Questura) at any time by logging on to

12. Enrolment (necessary documents and/or
procedure)
Please take note that for Turin University there is a difference between first
enrolment and enrolment as such.

enrolment: enrolment for the years following the first one for each first cycle
degree course, enrolment for second cycle degree courses, second
qualifications, master courses INCLUDING BIOHC), specialization courses and
schools.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE SINCE THE MASTER STUDENTS ALREADY HOLD A
BACHELOR DEGREE AND CAN CERTIFY THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ONE
YEAR OF ATTENDANCE OF A MASTER DEGREE IN A FOREIGN UNIVERSITY
If you are a non-EU student and you do not live in Italy, you must first submit the
application for enrolment to the Italian Embassy (or Italian General Consulate) in your
Country, along with an acceptance letter from the University of Torino (UNITO), in the
format requested by the competent embassy. The Embassy will then issue the study
VISA, which is necessary to come to Italy, as described in the previous section.
For the BioHC Master students to obtain the Italian Master degree at the end of the
Master, the documents needed will be:
- original of (Bachelor or equivalent) academic qualification (or equivalent certificate),
provided with a certified translation (a professional translator can write it) into Italian
language, legalization and "dichiarazione di valore" (declaration of equal value), a
document issued by the Italian Consular and Diplomatic Delegation, competent for
the territory of your country;
- original of your University of origin study plan, provided with a certified translation (a
professional translator can write it) into Italian Language and legalization, including
details about passed exams, hours and notes;
- detailed description of the courses you followed in your country, provided with a
certified translation (a professional translator can write it) into Italian language and
legalized (the legalization must concern stamps and signatures), including a
certification of your University of origin in your country, with notes and hours attesting
that these programs really correspond to the courses you passed; also this certificate
must be legalized (stamps and signatures).
- 2 photographs of yourself; one of them must be authenticated by Italian Consular
and Diplomatic Delegation, competent for the territory of your country;

- a valid identification document

All documents must be provided to the administrative Students Secretariat (in Italian
"Segreteria Studenti") of the School of Biotechnology at Torino
University at the time of enrolment.
At the enrolment, the Master students will receive the Smart card for Turin
University students, which will warrant access to all university facilities (libraries,
restaurant, etc) and allow the holder special discounts on public transportations (GTT
company, see below) and sport activities managed by the CUS (Centro Universitario
Sportivo) organization.

Sanitario Nazionale (National Health Service) at same level as Italian citizens, within

NON-EU GUESTS
Non-EU guests regularly staying in Italy can choose between two different health
coverings:
Public covering supplied by "SSN - Servizio Sanitario Nazionale" (National Health
Service): it provides the access to full health coverage (included the possibility to
choose a doctor) upon payment of Euro 149,77 per calendar year. Please note that
the covering expires on 31st December.
Private insurance to be purchased directly from insurance companies. As an
example, INA Assitalia for example offers an insurance policy for emergency care
only ("pronto soccorso") which costs Euro 98,00 for a year and Euro 49,00 for six
months.

EDISU Piemonte offers an information point giving support to access the "SSN -
Servizio Sanitario Nazionale" for people studying or working at the University of
Torino.

Banking
Non residents (visitors for less than six months) can generally open an account
provided they have their Italian tax registration code (codice fiscale). Some banks
may also ask for a residence certificate.
Currency exchange
You can change currency at any bank and post office or you can withdraw cash from
Automatic Teller Machines (Bancomat) that have an international circuit. Credit cards
are widely used throughout Italy but you will need cash if you are buying at street
markets.

In the English version of the UNITO website, go to "International Relations", then to
"Students' mobility", then to "Erasmus and exchange students", then click on "online
services incoming students").
In the menu of "sending institutions" (in alphabetical order) you should be able to find
"Erasmus mundus Biohealth computing Universite J. Fourrier" and to select it as your
sending institution, since you will come to Torino directly from the training week
organized by the coordinator university J. Fourrier.
Even if you do not participate to the summer school and come later from somewhere
else, please do the registration just the same way.
Fill in the form with all personal data requested (including your Nationality, most
important for the visa and residence permit issues) and the International Mobility
office will then be able to contact you about the accomodation booking, prices, how
to get your residence permit, etc.
Master students, registered online to the International Mobility office website will be
contacted by one of the private university residences which has available rooms for
the period requested, in order to agree on a rent amount.
If they do not find the proposal convenient, they should contact the IM office to find
place in another residence.
They also have the option of finding a private accommodation on their own, if they
like.
There will be no problem in booking university residence rooms for you, but there are
several options, prices, etc, so they will contact you in advance to know which one
you prefer.

18. Public transport
The GTT local transport company employs 5,500 personnel and transports 190
million passengers every year.
The group manages the following public transport networks:
The Turin urban and suburban networks (1 metro, 8 tram lines and 100 bus
lines operating 200 km of tramline network and 1,200 km of bus network).
The out-of-town bus network (70 bus lines operating 3,600 km).
The rail network (2 lines in concession covering 80 km and 1 line managed
on behalf of the Italian Railway company, Trenitalia, covering 36 km). The
Turin Caselle Airport Ceres GTT line links the city with the international
airport of Caselle; there are two junction stations in Turin itself, Dora and
Madonna di Campagna, connecting with other means of public transport. The
Dora - Caselle Airport route takes 19 minutes.
The local public transport service provides urban and suburban transport services
in Turin and in other 26 neighbouring towns. The system is used by 640.000
passengers daily, with 55.5 million km operated each year by 1,200 buses and 230
trams.
The out-of-town bus service is used by 51,000 passengers daily and includes 320
buses connecting to 220 towns and operating 13.4 million km each year in the
provinces of Turin and Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo to the south. The train service
(Ferrovie Canavesana and Turin-Ceres) stops in 33 towns in the province of Turin,
carries 12,000 passengers/day and operates 38 carriages for a total of 1.2 million km
annually.
GTT is currently building line 1 for the Turin underground, already operating from
Collegno to Porta Nuova.
GTT also operates the blue line parking spaces (50,000 parking slots), closed
and covered car parks for an overall total of 9,000 parking slots.
In addition, the company manages a number of tourist services including the Sassi-
Superga rack tramway, the lift to the Mole Antonelliana and the Turismo Bus Torino
line and boat service for tourists along the River Po.
Transport passes can be bought on a weekly, monthly, several-months and one-year
basis and UNITO students get special discounts (monthly transport pass fee for a
student <26 yrs. holding a Smart card: 18 E, within urban belt; for students >26 yrs.:
32 E).
It is possible activating a transport pass directly onto a student Smart card, provided
by the Student Secretariat at the time of enrolment.
Public transportation passes and single-trip tickets may be bought in any GTT selling
point around Turin city (newspaper shops, tobacconist shops, cafeterias, subway
stations).

O. Social and cultural life
Torino lies at the centre of Piemonte region, the land at the foot of the mountains. It
is surrounded by the Alps, the Olympic Mountains that hosted the Torino 2006 Winter

Torino offers a large range of sports facilities because of its position near the Alps.

Our University began its activity in the context of the eventful history of the 19th
century and is ready to cope with the numerous challenges of the 3rd millennium. In
1869 was founded the first nucleus of Transylvanian academic agronomic education
the Institute of Agronomic Education Cluj-Mntur, one of the oldest institutions of
the kind in Europe.
This University has become in the course of time a successful institution having
been assessed and esteemed as such in 2004 by the EUA; USAMV Cluj abides by
its 140 year tradition while modernizing its academic and management systems. The
four faculties host 7000 students, who study various domains which are adjusted to
the new requirements of European agriculture:
Faculty of Agriculture: a new approach towards earth and life sciences and
towards the the biodiversity of the living world.
Faculty of Horticulture: a continual diversification from economics and tourism to
landscape science and forestry.

The Faculty of Agriculture offers the high-school graduates great opportunities to
study intelligently in ways that suit the best everyones personality, helping them in
their efforts to achieve professional success.

The curricula and the syllabus have been drawn up so that they meet the
requirements, principles, criteria, standards and performance indicators of the
ARACIS, in order to ensure compatibility with the national educational system, as
well as with similar study programs and syllabi of the E.U. States, in accordance with
ECTS transferable credit system.
The Faculty owns extended modern facilities for education, research and other
activities, centres for instruction and practical training for students. The education
facilities (lecture halls, laboratories, workshop rooms, research centres, micro-

The process of legalizing the documents can be done at your local institution that is
entitled to do it (town hall, prefecture, police, or at a notary public).

For EU citizens who have study documents issued by an educational institution
from a NON-EU country must have those study documents authenticated (sealed)
by the Ministry of external Affairs of the issuing country and by the Romanian
Embassy of the same country.

Beside the legalization procedure, the Apostille of the Convention of Hague is
required (on the legalized copy) of the study documents issued in Italy, Greece,
Cyprus, Portugal and Spain.

For NON-EU citizens: The following documents : Bachelor's Degree (First Degree)

Upon definitive enrolment at the University the applicants will submit:

Admission

you will be informed by the university:
1. when you have been issued the Letter of Acceptance to Studies- Non-EU
students / the CNRED recognition certificate- EU students
2. about the results of the admission at the end of the 2 admission sessions (
end of July/ end of January).

Students who do not live in an EU member state must then immediately apply for a
student visa.
VI. SA

Students from the EU

Only need a passport or identity card for entering Romania but no visa. After arrival
you have to register at the Service for Immigration of Cluj in order to get your permit
of stay. You will be given all the necessary information about the registration at the
International Relations Office of USAMVCN.


Students from all other countries

Must immediately apply for a visa for study purposes upon receipt of the letter of
admission. It takes at least 8 weeks until a visa can be issued. It can only be issued
if the Service for Immigration of Cluj of the proposed place of residence/ study
agrees.
You should inquire in good time at the Romanian Embassy or Consulate which
documents have to be submitted together with the visa application.

Notice:

Visa requests processed by the Romanian Immigration Office within a 30
days legal time span.
Romanian Border Authorities (which take the final decision upon your
entry) may ask you to prove financial means to cover the journey (50
euro/day).
Exception: The foreigners who benefit from a scholarship offered by the Romanian
State and the foreigners of Romanian origin.
Cash Payment done only against RECEIPT issued at the desk.

Pick up
Our university doesnt t have a pick up service; however there is the possibility that
someone will wait for you at the airport, depending on your flight schedule.
Registration and student card

During your studies at USAMV you will be a registered student and thus will receive
a student card. We will be happy to explain the individual steps after your arrival,
however, please bring the following documents with you:
1 passport photo (please bring along at least three passport photos as you will need
photos for other offices as well);
Students from Eu countries European Health Insurance card
passport with valid visa (is necessary) or identity card.
There are no facilities for public transportation for students.


23. Health insurance
All students must be health-insured. Students from Eu countries or students from
those countries which have social agreements with Romania do not need to take
insurance in Romania, provided that they submit the European Health Insurance
card (E 128 or other E form). Students originating from countries other than those
mentioned above must take out a statutory health insurance, you are free to choose
which company you purchase from.
In Romania the fees are almost the same at all statutory health insurance
companies. You can also purchase the health insurance during the registration
procedure.



Course registration and restriction on participation
The participation in the modules of the faculty requires a central registration at the
faculty. The registration has to be effected via the International Office.
In general, you shouldn`t have problems with participating at lectures as the number
of participants is not limited. In the case of other courses, for example practical
courses in Communication Science and the practical trainings, you can participate if
enough places are available, and generally you need to pay a fee.

24. Examination
Non degree students are entitled to take semester or modular examinations.
Participation in final examination or submittal of a thesis is not allowed.
The examination office does not keep records on non degree students. If you wish to
complete examinations you should speak directly wit the lecturer as to if, and what

form, the examination will take part. The certificates of the passed examinations or
the participation in courses can be obtained from the respective lecturers or institute.

25. Language of instruction
Languages of instruction at USAMV Cluj are in Romanian, English and French.
All bachelor programs are taught in Romanian (except the Emglish line at Veterinary
Medicine), and you should at least have a medium knowledge in order to understand
lecturers.

27. Student residence / Accommodation
International students have the possibility to stay in one of our university
hostels during the academic year, in rooms with two beds, with bathroom in the
room, internet at a price of about 100 euro/person/month.
Th residence rooms are furnished. Dishes and towels are not available. The kitcken
must be shared .
Rental agreements run for minimum three months, only students that participate in
the practical courses can receive (when possible) the room a month before (in
September).
How to apply! Housing applications are to be send together with the registration
documents.
The payment for the room will be made in cash at the end of each month. You can
only move in on or after the beginning of the month. When moving out you must
show the hostel caretaker the room before departure. This is only possible between
Monday and Friday.

Students have the possibility to eat in Student`s Restaurant (str. Moilor 74-76).

Within the University campus there is also a Student Coffe Shop, where the students
have the possibility to try hot and cold drinks, in a very pleasant ambiant

Information on transport in Cluj Napoca are available at the university. However it is
important to know that there aren`t any discounts for students regarding the public
transportation.

- In order to have acces at the Library you need to get a library card, that is made on
your wish at arrival.
- The library card fee is about 3 euro.
- You need a photo and your id.

31. Sport
Students may practice team sports and other sportive activities on the sport field
within the university campus, a way to spend free time

Agronomia Pub, is situated on Motilor nr 74-76 Street, the only Student Pub in Cluj
Napoca, dedicated exclusively to the students and professors from the universities in
Cluj Napoca;
It represents a possibility to relax and spend quality free time
