About the NSCD:

Intern Advancement Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, CO February 2013

NSCD is one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies in the world. Each year more than 3,000 children and adults with disabilities participate in our programs to learn more about sports and themselves. With specially trained staff, a custom adaptive equipment lab, and over 800 volunteers, the NSCD teaches a variety of winter and summer sports and activities to individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioral diagnosis. Year round programming is based out of Winter Park Resort and Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

General Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Advancement Director, the advancement intern assists with correspondence with individual donors for the annual gifts project, including writing thank you letters, compiling e-newsletters and making phone calls. This is an unpaid position; however, letters of support to receive academic credit are available upon completion. The internship duration is February June, 2013, dates are flexible based on applicant need.

Daily Operations:
Assist in the donor gift receipt and acknowledgment processes. Assist in the preparation of annual giving solicitations. Assist in development and implementation of donor clubs. Manage donor stewardship processes, including all reporting and special correspondence. Coordinate special recognition of donors. Coordinate and track prospect and donor site visits. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:


College level courses in English, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, Business, Recreational Therapy or equivalent. Must have a valid CO drivers license and meet background check criteria to drive NSCD vehicle. Excellent knowledge of basic computer systems (outlook, word, excel, power point)

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to use databases and other web-based research software Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work virtually and/or in the NSCD office

Physical Demands:
Position requires walking, standing and sitting. Must be able to use standard phone system and use a keyboard and computer screen. Must be capable of understanding conversations. Vision sufficient or adaptive capabilities to read printed, handwritten, typed and computer generated material.
