SANTHOSH RAO Being not Self Realized myself, and this itself is a bit of a self realization, I have used

the teachings and sayings of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba (who is the OBJECT of SR). I have also tapped other lesser sources for smaller lights.

The GOAL of Self Realization is to REALIZE the SELF!

The SELF is the I in all of us as opposed to the i which is the selfish self centered i.

What or Who is this I

We have heard of:

Aham Bhramasmi ( I am Divinity)
Tat

Twam Asi ( That am I)

Who or What is this I? This I is the ATMA!

Where is this Atma & is this the soul?

In an interview Bhagavan Baba declared that Atma is different from the soul. This is because of translation and language usage/understanding. The soul is a Western concept and loosely translated as Atma.

Baba Where is the Atma? It is all pervasive! In you, around you. It is like airALL PERVASIVE.
To differentiate we thus have Jivatma and Paramatma.

 Atma has no form. It is infinite, indescribable and immeasurable.attributeless, pure, final abode, eternal, enlightened, free and embodiment of sacredness. Such an ATMA THATHWA is immanent in every being, in the form of CONSCIOUSNESS. Your life as a human being will acquire a meaning and purpose, only when you realize the CONSCIOUSNESS.Baba (Shivarathiri 2004). So Baba seems to be equating Self Realization with Realization of Consciousness

Even if we dont understand high flaunting concepts such as SR and Immortality We all understand and want PEACE, HAPPINESS, JOY & BLISS. OK! Happiness, Joy, Blisswhats the diff? So lets not split hairs and just focus on PEACE & HAPPINESSi.e. the PH factor in Life. Water to be useful must have a positive PH factor. This ocean of Life to be useful/meaningful must also have this positive PH factor.

One can have all the wealth, power, name and fame but without this PH factor it is meaningless.

From the lowest worm to the crown of creation MAN & all things move only in 2 ways
We all move away from that which causes sorrow, pain & disappointment We move towards things and people who can give us P&H

So if all are desperately moving only in the direction of PH, why are we not getting this ?
In fact we find often the person or thing we move towards to give PH, is/are the ones that can give us also greatest

 OH BOY!

Whats SU?

Baba and the Vedas (ancient scriptures of all religions give us the answer).

So we want P&H, but end up with S&U because of P&S !! ??

PRIYA is that which may gives us short term happiness but may equally give long term S&U. SHREYA is that which involves initial struggle, sacrifice of comfort and happiness, but long term P&H in life.

The examples of every stage in our life will show us this truth.

So if SR is in truth P& H which can be end up as S&U because of P&Swhat can we do about this?
Let us go back to this Atma Thathwa this I factor.
Baba in Nov. 1970 itself gave the Q & A:

 Like the current which activates and operates the machine (with all its nuts, bolts, wheels and belts) the I activates the inert body and its componentsinner and outer.

So next question is

You must carry on the activities (of your unit) with the faith that a Divine will is the basic motive power of all you plan & do. Some of us will now sigh in relief and say Thank God so there is a Divine Will and all this I business is just academic.

 Who are You? You are that Divine Will that gives you life, vigour, will & wisdom. Realizing this is the goal of life. It means an end to ignorance, delusion and Maya.

So this P & H relates to:=

inner PEACE undisturbed by external or internal turmoil. A PEACE THAT PASSETH UNDERSTANDING.

 HAPPINESS relates to inner happiness, that does not depend upon others giving one happiness for if it can be given it can be taken away.

So how do we acquire this? What is Babas prescription for us to realize that HE & I are one.

Tat Twam Asimay even be not quite right from Divine viewpoint.
Baba in fact goes beyond the classic Tat Twam Asi (That am I OR HE am I He says this is not quite right It should be I am I the drop of water is the same as the Oceanso the drop will say I am I.

 By tasting One Drop of water from the Ocean we can experience the very taste of the entire water of the ocean. The drop is the ocean and the ocean is the drop Baba.

So this I is the source of the PH factor.

This P&H , if we manifest it, can create a force field that can deflect negative energy from outside and from within mind.

Every burst of anger, Jealousy, Selfishness punches holes & disturbs the Force Field & the PH and blocks the I radiance.

 It is this Love, this Nishkaama Prema (Selfless Love)that will help us attain the Knowledge for as Christ said, It is Knowledge that will set you free.

ATMA JNANA (WISDOM)the knowledge of the I, how to realize it, how to harness it not for some esoteric mumbo jumbobut to live a dynamic, fulfilling life of P&H.

Then the question arises as to what is Jnana (wisdom)?

Is it physical knowledge or secular knowledge or knowledge relating to the objects of nature? It is none of these!

 Experiencing the principle of non-dualism is true wisdom. Today people are going mad in search of spiritual knowledge. They adopt umpteen number of spiritual practices and bodily postures and call it spiritual sadhana. However none of these help to attain Atma Jnana.

What is important is PREMA (LOVE).,. Which is the undercurrent of all forms of Spiritual Sadhana (SS).

He continues: You have to give up Dehabhimana ( attachment to the body) and cultivate Atmabhimana (Love towards the Atma).

It can be attained only through LOVE.

If only you have pure love, all your suffering will be removed WOW!

 you come across a person who you dislike or vice versa. If you hate and move away the differences will increase further. However if you greet him lovingly and say Hello! How are you, naturally he would respond with love.

 Thus, when you greet each other lovingly, there is no scope for negative feelings persisting anymore. As is your feeling towards others, so is their feeling Yadbhavam Thadbhavathi (As your feeling, so shall you become.)

When clouds move away, the sun is visible

Similarly, when your negative feelings scatter away, what remains is
YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD WITH PURE LOVE.

IN FACT YOU CAN GET THE ENTIRE WORLD THROUGH LOVE.

But often people ( even long time Sai devotees and Sr. members of the Sai Org.) will say/think

OK! I agree! But let the other person show this selfless love first. (This has been told to mebelieve me.) OR they will say:

 This sounds great, but I am not capable of the kind of selfless love that Baba (let alone you) talk about. I get jealous, resentful, angry; I can be awfully self willed. I really dont want to accept this about myself, but I dont know what to do about it. I think I am just not capable of this kind of Selfless Lovein fact I think it is a fiction, a pie in the skyOR perhaps for sadhus and saints but not ordinary folk like me.

The reply for all who want to follow the Path Divine as shown by Bhagavan Baba for P&H is this:

All of us have to Learn the language and art and science of LOVE, just as we had to learn to walk or speak. But all must learn. We have not to do

 We have only to unlearn the language of the BODY, of I & MY. We have to unlearn the language of hate & ill will, the judgment of persons, jealousy, selfishness etcand focus on our own Goodness and the goodness of others.

How to overcome? Swami says:

For Quarrels, Envy & Hatred: Let the past be forgotten since that we cannot recover. Let us not brood over what has already happened. But from this moment, give up envy and hatred in your hearts and plant therein Love and Trust.

 For Disappointments:
You must not lose heart when you are disappointed, perhaps your wish itself was wrong or its realization may have landed you in worst situation. Anyway it is the will of the LORD and HE knows best.

For grief & tears: Do not count tears of pain, do not pour over your grief. Let them pass through your mind, as birds fly through the sky, leaving no trail behind.

 Believe me Brothers and Sisters, the Master has given an answer to all our cries of anguish only we do not listen:

 If Man wishes to be happy, the first exercise he must do is to remove from his mind every bad thought, feeling and habit. The happiness in life will be in inverse proportion to your desires

NAY! LET US FIGHT WITH THE DEMONS WITHIN US THAT CAUSE US TO WITHHOLD THE RADIANCE OF OUR PURE LOVE TO ONE AND ALL The enemies that prevents us from experiencing P&H which is the consequence of PURE LOVE are within us as :

 ANGER, JEALOUSY, ENVY, INGRATITUDE, SELFISHNESS, BACK BITING, TALKING ILL, TRYING TO BRING OTHERS DOWN, NOT LOVING AND RESPECTING YOUR PARENTS AND ELDERS AND SEEKING THEIR HAPPINESS ALSO ETC.

It has taken me so long to understand the real meaning of the Gayathri Manthra
This light only dawned upon me when I was in the Dark Continent of Africa, after Babas Birthdaysomewhere in Nov. 2004. What has this got to do with the present subject? We shall see!

 We all know the mantra and I have been chanting it and discoursing on it for many years during the HINDU TRAC Sessions and when addressing SAI devotees.

But for so long I was quoting from Books and Babas explanations and I believe now SAI has lead me to realize why this is such a powerful mantra. Thus I will conclude with this.

Its Power and Passion

As I was trying to sleep in some hotel in Africa this Gayathri was by my side.

I MEAN THE MANTRA!

But suddenly the 5 Koshas flashed in my Minds eye I wondered why and just became a witness to what was appearing.

The center is the Atmic Core the I the Divinethe PURE UNSULLIED LOVE NISHKAAMA PREMASELFLESS DIVINE LOVE.

What has this Koshas got to do with the Gayathri Mantra? This is the question I also asked at about 1 or 2 am!

However until this knowledge comes to full SELF REALIZATION Let us continue to raise our Hands in Prayer to the Devas and God Men who guide us through our respective religions

Let us raise our Hands in Prayer and Sing the name of the Avathar of the Kali Yuga who guards and guides us
