Jamiat Logo Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (Urdu: , "Islamic Organization of Male Students") is the male wing of an organization of students influenced mainly by the works of Late Syed Abul-Ala Maodudi. It is an Islamic organization whose stated mission is to preach Islam to students of modern institutions throughout Pakistan. It attempts to promote its vision of Islamic values and glorify the image of Islam through various means. Its main fields are the modern educational institutions i.e. colleges and universities across Pakistan, though many local sub-divisions are active at school level. Though there is no direct and constitutionally accepted relation with Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, it is treated as the student wing of that party because it acts according to JI theories and philosophies. Jamiat is the largest students' organization in Pakistan (citation needed). It has a counterpart of the same ideology but with a complete, separate and independent structure and organisation, known as Jamiat Talaba Arabia. (IJ Arabia works in religious institutions). The headquarters of Islami Jamiat Talaba are located in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. Jamiat was founded on 23 December 1947 in Lahore, and is one of the oldest student organizations in Pakistan (citation needed). Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba is not based on language and ethnic origin. The feminine counterpart, with the same ideology but with a separate structure and organisation, is known as Islami Jamiat-e-Talibaat.

Purpose
Islami Jamiat Talaba is a large student organization in Pakistan. It is an independent organization of youth. Also known as the Jamiat ("jam-ee-at"), it is one of the oldest student organizations in Pakistan, founded on 23 December 1947 in Lahore, Pakistan. Islami Jamiat Talaba believes in the oneness of God (Allah) and that Muhammad was the last Prophet of Allah. An openly sectarian organization, Islami Jamiat Talaba successfully pressured the military government of Gen. Zia-Ul-Haq to have Ahmadis (Qadianis) declared "non-Believers" in the national law of Pakistan. Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan is working in Pakistan to eliminate the non-Islamic factors and the secularism from the curriculum and teachings of the educational institutions of Pakistan.

Criticism
Jamiat has been widely criticized by many Pakistanis for its use of violence and threats to enforce its vision of Islamic values. Its presence in Karachi and Lahore educational institutes has led to many violent confrontations. In July 2011 it was accused of "terrorizing" students at Punjab University in Lahore to prevent social contact between male and female students. University administrators accused it of operating a "parallel administration", saying Jamiat members wielding clubs had beaten students in their dorms and prevented University staff from intervening.[1]
