EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
With the help of this project I have tried to present a detailed presentation on the topic EMPLOYEES WELFARE AND WORKING CONDITIONS in VEETEE FINE FOODS LIMITED a great dealer in RICE MARKET all over the world. Organizations are made up of people and function through people. Without people Organizations can not exist. Man power refer to the total knowledge, skills, creative abilities, talents and aptitudes of an organizations workforce, as well as the values, attitudes and beliefs of the individuals involved. In this study I firstly checked the requirements to make a safe, happy and healthy working environment for the employees and the activities involved for welfare of the employees to make them more satisfy with social security. Then I collected the data through face to face questionnaire of some of the middle level employees from the various departments to know, what actually organization is providing to their employees and what is not? In terms of welfare and working conditions. On the basis of result of that face to face questionnaire, I made drafted questionnaire for the survey of employees to know their satisfaction level and Their suggestions to improve the working conditions of the organization. Also I included some of my suggestions for improving the working conditions of the company. After getting filled questionnaire, on the basis of that I showed their satisfaction level presenting through pie-charts on the value basis. Then on the basis of the survey, suggestions and observations, I made a SWOT analysis of the company

RESEARCH DESIGN Research design is the arrangement of condition for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose with the economy in procedure. It is the blueprints for collection, measurement and analysis of data.

TYPES OF RESEARCH DESIGN

Descriptive research design: - Which are concerned with describing the characteristics of a particular individual, or of group. What is the Objective? To describe something, e.g. Target market population characteristics, proportion of users, predict future demand. What are the characteristics of descriptive research? In this project I have used DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH DESIGN because it describes new ideas and events.

Primary data:First hand data was collected through personal interview of some of the middle level employees and also Questionnaire drafted by me for getting the low level employees opinion regarding the Environment in which they work and I have also asked employees in the open ended questions , their suggestions for improvements in the working conditions of VEETE

2. Secondary data:Secondary data sources were VEETEs website (www.veetee.com), handbooks, Books on labour law in India, etc.

Sample size taken was 40 out of which 7 belongs to middle level employees and 29 belongs to low level

MEANING
The term Employee welfare may be viewed as a total concept, as a social concept and as a relative concept. The total concept is a desirable state of existence involving the physical, mental, moral and emotional well being. The relative concept of welfare implies that welfare is relative in time and place. It is dynamic and flexible concept and hence its meaning and content differ from time to time, region to region, industry to industry, level

of education, social custom, and degree of industrialization and general standard of the socio-economic development of the people. Employee Welfare implies the setting up of minimum desirable standard and the provision of facilities like health, clothing housing, medical, education, insurance, job security, recreational etc. to enable the worker and to live a good working life and social life.

EMPLOYEES WELFARE PROVISIONS AT VEETEE FINE FOODS LIMITED

The employee welfare schemes can be classified into two categories viz. statutory and non-statutory welfare schemes

STATUTORY SCHEMES:The statutory schemes are those schemes that are compulsory to provide by an organization as compliance to the laws governing employee health and safety under the factories act, 1948, plantation labour act, 1951, mines act, 1952, contract labour (regulation and abolition) act, 1970

DRINKING WATER: - Safe drinking water is provided to the employees of the company. Provisions 1. Many types of testing of water is taken into consideration to ensure that water is safe for the employees health 2. Water tanks are also cleaned regularly one in a month. 3. Proper records are maintained by the company of tests reports of water

FIRST AID :- First Aid appliances are given and readily assessable so that in case of any minor accident initial medication can be given to the needed employees

REST ROOMS :- There are proper arrangement of rooms for the rest of the Employees with proper lighting and fans facility Total no. of rooms: - In RICE department are 4 In RTE department is 1

CANTEEN FACILITY: - Cafeteria or canteens are to be provided by the employer so as to provide hygienic and nutritious food to the employees. 1. Cost: - There is the cost price of food per plate is RS 10 /2. Sitting arrangement: - Proper sitting arrangements is given to the employees Of the organization 3. Subsidy: - 50% subsidy is given to the employees of the company

WASHING FACILITY :- washing places such as bathrooms, wash basins with tap
and tap on the stand pipe are provided in the port area in the vicinity of the work places.

CHANGING ROOMS :-

1. Adequate changing rooms are provided for workers to change their cloth in the factory
area and office premises.

2. Adequate lockers are also provided to the workers to keep their clothes and belongings.

NON STATUTORY In highlights the Non statutory welfare activities extended to the employees in the Veetee. These are the additional benefits given by the company. PERSONAL HEALTH CARE :- Company provides medical check-up facility and following provisions are there :1. Regular check-up of the employees is conducted in every year 2. Types of tests and check-ups like blood test, urine test, etc. 3. One permanent doctor is appointed (qualifications - MBBS/BSC ) with one compounder 4. Doctor is available once in a week and rest of the days compounder is present to take care off

TRANSPORT FACILITY :- Proper facility of transport given to employees for their convenience to reach the company comfortably Number of buses :- 12 Number of cabs :- 4

MATERNITY & ADOPTION LEAVE :- Employees can avail maternity or


Adoption leaves. Paternity leave policies have also been introduced by various companies. And no deductions are there for this type of leave

EDUCATION AND AWARENESS: - Education and awareness is given regarding health and diseases like communicable diseases, HIV aids, swine flu, etc.

TRAINING PROGRAMS CONDUCTED FOR SAFETY: - Special training programs are organized for all for the safety like fire safety, accident safety, safe material handling, etc.

RESIDENT FACILITY: - Residential facility provided to the permanent employees near the company.

LOAN FACILITY: - Company provides loan to its employees with minimum interest rates.

EMPLOYEES REFERRAL SCHEME: - employee referral scheme is


implemented to encourage employees to refer friends and relatives for employment in the organization.

Following schemes are as under:1. EPF (employees provident fund ) scheme :- Employees provident fund Scheme is given to the employees for their betterment. 2. ESI (employees state insurance) scheme :- Employees state insurance scheme Includes following provisions :Employees with income below RS 15000/- can avail its benefit

WORKING CONDITIONS
The efficiency of employees depends, to a great extent, on the environment in which they work. Work environment consists of all the factors which act and react on the body and mind of an employee. Under industrial psychology the physical, mental and social conditions in which people work are analyzed to suggest improvements in them. The primary aim is to create an environment which ensures the greatest ease of work and removes all the causes of annoyance, anxiety and worry. If the work environment is congenial, fatigue, monotony and boredom are minimized and work performance can be maximized.

SAFETY: - Safety includes all the measures taken into consideration for the safety of the employees of the company. It includes fire safety, accidents safety, safe material handling, etc. HEALTH: - It is a state of complete 1. Physical well-being 2. Mental well-being 3. Social well-being 4. And not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

MISCELLANIOUS: - It includes other aspects which affect working life of Employees like work schedule, work shift timings, over time wages, etc.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AT VEETEE FINE FOOD LTD.

Work environment may be classified into three categories viz safety, health and miscellaneous

SAFETY
PRODUCTION PROCESS: - Production carried by the company is 90% mechanical and 10% is manual (material lifting to the warehouses and transport etc.) MACHINE OPERATING: - machine operating is a critical work which is given after making careful decisions. Provisions:1. Employees of below age 25 are restricted to work on dangerous or Critical machines 2. Machines are regularly cleaned by monthly wise for the smooth and safe functioning FENCING OF MACHINERY: - Safeguards of substantial production must be raised and constantly maintained and kept in position while the parts of machinery (they are fencing) are in motion or in use. Provisions:1. Fencing regarding every dangerous part of any other machinery 2. Spare parts and tools are properly placed for the safety of employees.

LIFTING MACHINES: - These are the machines which are used by the company for the lifting or handling of the material. Provisions:1. Machines used are free from defects and of good quality 2. proper training is given to the employees regarding its operation

FIRE SAFETY:- company have proper precautions in case of fire Provisions:1. Company has got fire security certificate of Haryana fire & safety services. 2. Proper way is given for the escape in case of fire distinctively marked in a language that is understandable by the majority of employees 4. Fire safety alarm is linked with main entrance and main doors 5. Fire safety extinguisher is located at the right place

OVER CROWDING:- There is no overcrowding which reduce the chances of accidents and easily manageable. In Rice department - 350 employees (approx) located in manufacturing Place, ware houses, packaging department, quality checking, etc. In RTE department 50 employees (approx)

SAFETY EQUIPMENTS:- Many types of safety equipments are provided at workplace. Provisions:-

1. Masks are provided for the safety of respiration system of employees from the dust produced in RICE department 2. Hand gloves are also provided, head mask are also given to the employees for their cleanliness and also for quality management.

SMOKING AND ALCOHOL:- special rules are followed by the employees decided by the company

Provisions:1. Smoking is prohibited at manufacturing site and workplace 2. If anyone is found smoking then he will have to bear a fine

LIGHTING AND VENTILATION:- proper lighting is there which is essential for workers as it enables them to work with speed and accuracy and reduces mental fatigue, accidents, irritation, eye strain, etc.

HEALTH
HEALTHY FOOD:Food Items provided 4 dishes given to the

employees on rotation in a week (a) Rajma and rice (b) Dal and chapatti (c) Chole and rice (d) potato And chapatti .

POLLUTION CONTROL:- Company has set up two units for pollution control regarding sewage control and effluents control for the healthy environment of employees .

1. Sewage control:-STP (Sewage treatment process) an underground process for the control of waste matter. 2. Effluent control: - ETP (Effluent treatment process) polluted water is purified and recycled for the reuse in different purposes.

EDUCATION FOR HEALTH:- Awareness and education is given regarding different types of health problems like HIV AIDS, communicable diseases, cleanliness measures,

SANITATION: - regular attention is given for the sanitation to give clean working place to the employees. Precautions:1. Wash basins, bathrooms, toilets, etc. are regularly cleaned 2. Proper records are also maintained of the cleanliness.

VACCINATION AND FIRST AID: - proper facility is given to employees to cure from diseases.

MISCELLANEOUS

WORK SHIFT TIMINGS:- All company follows work timings as per their Requirement and Veetee has made following provision regarding work Timings. Provisions:1. There are 3 shifts and workers are divided in these shifts 2. Name of the shifts are A, B and C. 3. timings A - 6 am to 2 pm B- 9 am to 5:30 pm C- 10 pm to 6 am

4. Employees have the flexibility to change their work shift timings During emergency.

OVER TIME WAGES :- over time wages is given to all the employees under Factory act, 1948 or labour act, 1970.

GRIEVANCES HANDLING: - Veetee has set up a committee for Grievances handling. Provisions: - One representative from employees and one from employer sit together and talks out the matter of grievance for the peace in working environment.

WORK STRESS :- After the observation I have found There is no work stress on the employees. Company follows a work Schedule and employees follows it which lowers down undue work Pressure

LUNCH TIME:- Sufficient time is given to all the employees of the company for about one hour in all the shifts.

MOTIVATION AND PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL :- It is the way using which organization develops employees with efficiency

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN BY EMPLOYEES

Hygiene condition of canteen, rest room and toilet sanitation should be improved. Quality of canteen meal should be improved Shelter and rest room facility should be given to contract labour Safety training programs conducted are not sufficient Problem solving is not that good Performance appraisal system is not satisfactory Prompt action is also a problem in the organization which should be improved Guidance given are sometime inappropriate

SUGGESTIONS FROM MY SIDE


Employees motivation should be taken care off as it affects the mental health of Employees Little safety measures at working place needs to be improved as I have found the Staircase risky Canteen facility should be improved

SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTH HR personnel show good behavior to all employees from top to bottom There is no question of employee harassment in the factory No child labour works in the factory Medical facility is in place Company has provided free transportation to the employee Health check up is carried out annually WEAKNESS Hygiene condition of canteen, rest room and toilet is poor. Quality of canteen meal is not good. Waste management is not up to the mark Safety training programs is not sufficient Conditions given to contract labour is not good All employees are not aware about welfare schemes of the company OPPRTUNITIES Vigorous training (internal and external) is provided to develop the skill of employee

Old daily wagers are needed to be upgraded

Employee refreshment program should be taken under consideration

THREATS Organizational structure is not maintained as old employees leave and no recruitment are done in different department. It affects the factories daily activity Experienced employee is to be recruited at floor level for better working Environment Prompt decision is not taken by top management; it affects the mentality of employee in the context of enthusiasm to duty.

LIMITATIONS

Some respondents give half hearted responses or false information due to security purposes, which may lead to the wrong conclusions 100% accuracy may not be there in the information provided by the Company There can be some biasness while filling the questionnaire.

There may be some pressure on the employees while responding to the questions.

Full cooperation of the employees was not achieved Some of the data collected about the company from various sources like manuals and websites may not be latest.

CONCLUSION
After Survey and careful analysis of two months by staying here with this company I Concluded that overall employees working conditions need to be improve on various Aspect like sanitation , hygiene food , salary up gradation, waste management . Also there is the problem of prompt action taking which adversely affect the working Environment of the company. Giving the employees happy, healthy and safe working condition will help them to perform better and increase in productivity because good working conditions plays the Vital role in employees satisfaction which is a strength of every organization . If employees are given safe and healthy working condition they will not think to quit the jobs and company will be getting their quality workforce retained with the company Safe and healthy work environment is one of the reasons of organizations goodwill By incurring some cost organization can attain best performance of the employees and Veetee should use this as a tool.
