PORT SOUND SOURCES

AXIS OF ROADS AND RAILROADS

B e g g i n i n g w i t h t h e s o u n d p o l - lution . In Rijeka the lineer sound are highways, roads that we can see in these map, that most of them sre situated in one side of the river. then, we have another kand of sound sources that are building and produce a lot of noise little industries for example. they are located in the coastline in the north.

SOUND SOURCES

LINE SOURCE

The map above represent the sound sources of Rijeka; highways, roads, industries, they are represented in black. The lighter areas in the map represent nature areas that are most silent areas.

The main map represents Rijeka sensitive buildings that must be protected from noise. These buildings are hospitals, schools, churches... that are situated in the center of the city and in the coastline next to the industrial area of the port. Sound barriers must protect these sensitive buildings, can be artificial or natural. Natural ba- buildings, rriers are situated along the river formed by trees and vegetation and artificial barriers are situated along roads and highways protecting these sensitive buildings. These barriers are horizontal and some of them form acoustic bags. We have check out that sensitive buildings in Rijeka are well protected by sound barriers as we can see in the main map.

CONTAMINATION

In Rijeka there is a total of 1.514.621m2 and considering that the green zones retain 9 kg/m2, it will retain 168 tons of CO2 which represents a 44.5% of the total that emits Rijeka in a year, 378 T In order to retain the 100% of the emissions would be necessary duplicate the total area of green zones. This is very complica- ted, so it would be interesting the planta- tion of pines, native tree, in the city of Rijeka. The University of Seville for example has carried out a study on the use of the trees like carbon dioxide drains. The report reflects that the arboreal plantations are an effective instrument for the fight against the climatic change. And, bet- ween all the species, the best one is the pine. The carrasco pine and the pionero pine are suitable in this function; they respecti- vely absorb 48,870 and 27,180 kilos of CO2 to the year. EXPORT GRAPHICS RIJEKA ENERGIES

INSOLATION RADIATION

Coastal and mountain-plains circulation, the clo- seness and the position of the mountainous hin- terland has also a strong influence on the airflow, especially on its change with height; in certain weather conditions, it can facilitate the occu- rrence of weather situations characterised by the appearance of increased side wind, great hori zontal and vertical wind shear, turbulence, and strong ascending and descending air move- m e n t s . To conclude, there are two basic circulation regi- mes in Croatia. A mostly weak-to-moderate wind with changeable direction is mainly prevalent in the continental part. The prevalent wind direc- tion inland depends significantly on the open- ness and the form of the surrounding terrain, as can be seen on the annual wind rose map. On the contrary, strong wind is more frequent on the eastern Adriatic coast.

In the valley of the river where there is no obsta- cles, is very influenced by Southwest strong wind. The residential reas on both sides of the river, are less influenced by the wind because of the tall b i u l d i n g s .

WIND STUDY.

After studing wind and sunlight levels, we have identified different areas of high efficiency. This high efficiency is obtained because the influen- ce of the highest sunshine hours and intensity of w i n d . Croatia shows interesting prospects for wind de- velopment, given its high dependence on energy, the high weight of fossil fuels in electricity mix and its forthcoming accession to the Euro- pean Union scheduled for July 1, 2013 -. This brings with its alignment with EU policy on energy and climate change, which requires, among other things, to reach 20% of final energy from re- newable sources by 2020. Today, Croatia imports more than 50% of primary energy and over 25% of the electricity consu- med. Its electricity generation mix consists mainly of fossil fuels (gas, fuel oil and coal) and hydro plants, while the contribution of wind power and other renewable testimonial is still less than 2%.
