My Experience as a Writer Throughout both my educational and personal life-time writing has been an essential tool in achieving success. Weather its for writing a ten page research paper for my English class or simply writing a letter to a family member in which I needed to keep in touch, developing the ability to write well was required. I was not always a fan of writing and tried to avoid it all costs but throughout my educational career I was forced to encounter it and ultimately began to find writing as a gateway for me to express my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. When I first entered intermediate school I had extremely poor writing skills and resented writing very much. My sixth grade English teacher is one of the first people to encourage me to write and ultimately drastically improved my writing skills. While most of the students in my class felt she was over-working us for she constantly assigned papers I, on the other hand, began to enjoy writing and felt that I was beginning to express my thoughts in a more clear and adequate manor. By the time I reached high school I felt that my basic writing skills were strong yet I was still unable to write at a high level. I was then placed in advanced placement English where you were required to comprehend content and deliver well written essays proving you understood and could analyze the work of literature. While this was

Extremely difficult at first I eventually took to it and slowly but surely I sharpened my writing skills. Due to the fact that I was now constantly writing papers for my English class I began to find writing to be somewhat second nature for me and I was writing even when it was not obligatory. I began to have a diary where I would express my daily thoughts and emotions. While when I was younger I would never write an email to my family members in Egypt due to its requirement of writing, I soon found myself emailing them around once a week. I would even at times express my thoughts through poetry as a way to relieve my stress and anxiety. Now that I am entering college I do expect there to be new challenges that I must overcome which will ultimately make me a better writer. I am anticipating the content of the work which we are writing about to be more difficult to comprehend and the work to be more challenging. I do however look forward to this process for I feel that the skill of writing is one that will come into play throughout of my entire lifetime, weather its for my academic career or future employment. My development of writing grew slowly throughout my academic career where my feelings towards writing soon went from resentment to indifference and ultimately enjoyment. I hope to continue to build on my writing skills, for writing is a incredible way for ones thoughts and ideas to not only be expressed but heard.
