Application
The PC software eddyAssist is running on a PC under the operating system Microsoft WindowsTM in connection with one or more MAGNATEST ECM and/or STATOGRAPH ECM. The ECM test channel parameters can be adjusted comfortably and the measured signals are displayed on the PC's monitor. An easy operation of the system is achieved by installation and setup wizards. Storage of instrument settings as well as printout of test protocols are additional features of the software.

Features
Communication
The communication between eddyAssist and the ECM(s) proceeds by use of the REMOTE interface of the ECM(s) (RS485 standard). For this purpose the PC must be equipped with an RS485 interface. FOERSTER offers a suitable USB/RS485 converter. However, every other interface can be used, which is compatible with RS485 standard and which can be addressed by the software as serial interface (COM1 .. COM16).

Analog signals

Program structure
The operation of eddyAssist corresponds to the operators interface as it is implemented in manual mode of the ECM's. Accordingly eddyAssist distinguishes between the operating states TEST, CALIBRATION, and INSTALLATION. In each of these operating states the user is informed about the relevant and meaningful features necessary for the respective operating state. Operation is possible in different ways, as it is standard in Windows programs (mouse operation, standard pull-down menus, functional buttons, etc.). Particularly comfortable operation is possible when using eddyAssist on a PC system which is equipped with a touch screen.

Windows Wizards
For the execution of complex operations eddyAssist offers the well-known Windows wizards. The software guides the user in a step-by-step dialog through the individual stages of a more complex procedure. In this way the user is intuitively lead to the goal of the current operation. help the user to find the optimal instrument setting for a given test task by the use of reference parts with known properties.

Language selection
When starting eddyAssist for the first time the user has the possibility to select his preferred dialog language. Simultaneously the language selection for the contextsensitive help function of eddyAssist is done. Also during the operation of eddyAssist another language can be selected very easily.

Construction
Depending, how many and which types of ECM(s) shall be operated an eddyAssist system consists of the components described below.

STATOGRAPH ECM, single-channel

In case a STATOGRAPH ECM shall be operated additionally a data acquisition board is necessary for capturing the analog measurement values. A typical single-channel STATOGRAPH ECM installation consists of the following components (see Figure 2): PC with Windows operating system PC software eddyAssist single-channel USB/RS485 adaptor with USB cable Data cable 2.010.01-9804 Data acquisition board Connection cable NI SHC68-68-EPM DAQ adaptor 6.421.01-7200 Analog signal cable 2.010.01-9901 STATOGRAPH ECM 6.421

MAGNATEST ECM, single-channel

Additionally to the Windows PC and the MAGNATEST ECM the PC software eddyAssist, as well as an RS485 interface for communication between PC and ECM are required. A typical configuration is shown in Figure 1. Multi-channel applications
Whenever more than one ECM shall be operated by the software it is necessary to use the PC software eddyAssist in its multi-channel version. One remote cable ECM-ECM is required for each additional ECM for the connection over the REMOTE interface For each STATOGRAPH ECM one analog signal cable is necessary to achieve the connection to the DAQ adaptor. In this context it must be taken into account that a maximum of four STATOGRAPH ECM can be connected to each DAQ adaptor / data acquisition board. In case of more than four STATOGRAPH ECM's an appropriate number of data acquisition boards, connection cables NI SHC68-68-EPM, and DAQ adaptors will be required. ATTENTION: The PC must provide an adequate number of available interfaces!

Figure 3 shows the configuration for a twochannel STATOGRAPH ECM application. For each additional ECM one remote cable 2.010.01-9801 has to be provided, for

each additional STATOGRAPH ECM another analog signal cable 2.010.019901 is necessary.

The components marked with () are already included in the eddyAssist software. The other components (e.g. connection, data, and analog signal cables) must be ordered separately.

Components
In the following the components are described which build up an eddyAssist system. FOESTER offers complete solutions including all purchased parts, like PC, interfaces, operating system, etc. When these components are ordered within one purchase order FOERSTER will deliver the whole system completely installed and ready-to-run. In case the customer wants to use other components than offered by us we can give only limited (if any) support during commissioning due to the great variety of systems on the market

PC software eddyAssist
Depending of the employed test instrument configuration one of the following variants of eddyAssist are to be used: PC software eddyAssist for MAGNATEST ECM, single-channel 3.621.01-8013 PC software eddyAssist for MAGNATEST ECM, multi-channel 3.621.01-8113 PC software eddyAssist for STATOGRAPH ECM, single-channel 6.421.01-8013 or 6.421.01-8023 PC software eddyAssist for STATOGRAPH ECM, multi-channel 6.421.01-8113 or 6.421.01-8123 Mixed connection of different ECM types (STATOGRAPH ECM, MAGNATEST ECM) is possible with the multi-channel program versions of eddyAssist.

Test instrument
eddyAssist currently supports the following test instruments: MAGNATEST ECM 3.621 STATOGRAPH ECM 6.421 A maximum of 16 instruments can be connected, where MAGNATEST ECM and STATOGRAPH ECM can be mixed in any combination.

USB memory stick 2.010.01-9011

As a standard eddyAssist will be delivered on a USB memory stick.
The memory stick is already included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist.

PC
FOERSTER offers the following PC variants. Order numbers can be found in section "Ordering information" at the end of this product information. Desktop PC with color screen and Windows operating system Industrial PC with color screen and Windows operating system 19" built-in PC with integrated color screen and Windows operating system Other PC's than these can be used if they fulfill the performance criteria summarized under "System requirements". Because of the great variety of available PC types on the market we have to charge a lumpsum payment for any support on installing eddyAssist to a PC which was not delivered by FOERSTER.

USB/RS485 adaptor, USB cable

The communication between eddyAssist and ECM(s) proceeds over the REMOTE interface of the ECM(s), which is implemented according to RS485 standard. Therefore, the PC must be equipped with an RS485 interface. FOERSTER offers for this purpose a USB/RS485 adaptor, which is connected to the PC via a USB interface (USB cable already included with the USB/RS485 adaptor).
The USB/RS485 adaptor (incl. USB cable) is already included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist.

Usage of any other interface (internal RS485 interfaces, additional components) is possible if it can be addressed as serial interface (COM1 .. COM16) by the program; however technical support is not available by FOERSTER.

Data cable 2.010.01-9804

This cable serves for the connection of the USB/RS485 adaptor to the ECM (resp. to the first ECM, if several ECM's are used). The cable is designed only for use with the USB/RS485 adaptor delivered by us and cannot be used with other RS485 adaptors.
The data cable is not included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist. Please order separately, specifying the cable length as needed in your installation.

If more than four STATOGRAPH ECM(s) shall be used an appropriate number of data acquisition boards must be employed. A combination of different types (PCI, PCMCIA, USB) is possible. The PC must provide the corresponding number of available slots/interfaces.
One data acquisition board is already included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist for STATOGRAPH ECM. Please add more data acquisition boards to your purchase order if your application uses more than four STATOGRAPH ECM(s).

Remote cable ECM-ECM 2.010.01-9801

In case of more than one ECM to be operated by eddyAssist for each additional ECM one remote cable ECM-ECM is required (number of necessary remote cables = number of ECM's minus 1). There are different cable lengths available; when using several ECM's within one 19" built-in kit a cable length of 0.13 m is suitable.
A remote cable is not included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist.. Please order separately, specifying the number of cables and cable lengths as needed in your installation.

DAQ adaptor 6.421.01-7200

The DAQ adaptor is used for an easy and pluggable connection of the ANALOG OUT signals of the STATOGRAPH ECM(s) to the data acquisition board of types PCI or PCMCIA. It cannot be used with a USB card. On its entrance side the DAQ adaptor is equipped with four 6-pin socket connectors for usage with analog signal cables while on the output side a 68-pin connector is used for connecting the connection cable NI SHC68-68-EPM. The DAQ adaptor also includes the circuitry for a reliable detection of the Rot.Sync. signal which is used in most STATOGRAPH ECM applications. For each data acquisition board in use one DAQ adaptor is required.
One DAQ adaptor is already included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist for STATOGRAPH ECM. Please add more adaptors to your purchase order if your application uses more than four STATOGRAPH ECM(s).

Data acquisition board

This board serves for acquisition and digitization of analog signals when using eddyAssist with one or more STATOGRAPH ECM 6.421. For installations only with MAGNATEST ECM 3.621 no data acquisition board is necessary. FOERSTER offers the following types of data acquisition boards: PCI plug-in cards (e.g. for usage in a standard or industrial PC), PCMCIA cards (e.g. for usage in a notebook PC). On request a USB card can be used (e.g. for connection to a panel-PC); however, a plug-and-play solution is not available. Please contact your local FOERSTER representative. A maximum of four STATOGRAPH ECM can be connected to each data acquisition board (DAQ adaptor and connections cables required, see below).

Analog signal cable 2.010.01-9901

For connecting the ANALOG OUT signals from STATOGRAPH ECM to DAQ adaptor. For each STATOGRAPH ECM one analog signal cable is required.
An analog signal cable is not included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist. Please order separately, specifying the number of cables and cable lengths as needed in your installation.

Connection cable NI SHC68-68-EPM

With this cable the connection between DAQ adaptor and data acquisition board is established. One connection cable is required per each data acquisition board. Different cable lengths are available.
A connection cable NI SHC 6868-EPM is not included in the a.m. PC software eddyAssist. Please order separately, specifying the number of cables and cable lengths as needed in your installation.

Installation eddyAssist
Lump sum payment for the installation of eddyAssist to a PC which was not supplied by FOERSTER. Does not include installation and/or configuration of Windows or other programs. FOERSTER can support only those components which were delivered by us (applies e.g. to RS485 interface, data acquisition board, etc.).

eddyAssist Compact Edition

Furthermore, FOERSTER offers complete packages, consisting of test instrument, panel-PC, and software eddyAssist in a compact desktop housing. These packages are available as MAGNATEST, MAGNATEST with output amplifier, and STATOGRAPH. Further information can be found in the appropriate leaflets, see below.
