What

Presenter The supermarket chain Tesco has recently come under fire due to their products containing horse meat. Horse meat traces have been found in the Tesco own brand burgers and this has angered members of the public. After further tests carried out by DEFRA it was found that it wasnt only Tescos products that were contaminated, both Birds Eyes ready-made meals and Ikeas famous meatballs were also found to contain horse meat. Our News Correspondent Connor Greenwood-Dean spoke to a Tescos manager and asked him what he thinks about the horse meat enquiry. (30 secs) Affects the 3 Words per second (Tesco Interview)

Manager: Tescos have been receiving a lot of public attention regarding the horse meat contaminated products. We can assure you that everything possible is being done to rectify the situation, as I am sure other retail suppliers on the high street and in the stores will also be doing their level best to to, uh, do as we are doing rectify any problem, making sure that the public are safe. The horse meat inquiry is being undertaken by outside agencies as well as internally. This is our opinion that a satisfactory outcome will be achieved. I dont think the horse meat inquiry will dissuade the trust within our customer base, as it is not really something that we have control over. We have a genuine and good customer base who are, how can I say, assured that we try to provide the best service possible and we are doing everything within our powers to make sure our products remain to the highest standards available. When its going to happen

Presenter In other news today, the government recently proposed a new education scheme called the English Baccalaureate Certificate that will replace the current GCSEs and are set to launch in 2015. This new scheme will focus on the 3 core subjects, English, Maths and the 3 sciences with other subjects like History, Geography and the languages being introduced in 2016. According to the National Union of Teachers they are not happy with the changes and that they would rather stick with the GCSEs. Our education correspondent
Specialist reporter because of topic of news story.

Hasnain Zahoor spoke to a representative of the NUT, Philippa Gell and asked her about their views on the suggested changes. (30 secs) (EBC Interview)

Expert Opinion

Philippa- What the EBC'S possible has to offer that the current GCSE's do not offer is that is offers more rigger and perhaps stretches more academic students, which is something that the teachers and the NUT'S want to see happen. Erm it focuses on a small group of subjects so that perhaps means that they can be more in depth study of those subjects and perhaps push students to erm work more independently that they might do currently and this may well prepare students for AS level courses, particularly in the science and maths. Yeah i mean the next question you asked about the uno how will students who are more vocational/ practical minded how will they achieve, er its going to be difficult as there will be less option for them and erm I think we would be creating a two tear system and alot of the current qualifications that are offered to these students probably wouldn't be available any more they would the governments view is that uno even though there are students who are not up to doing GCSE's so there would be still options available for them but i don't think they will be as valued as they are now erm the EBC the certificate and the concept of the English Baccalaureate with the smaller group of subjects that are studied in depth ist certainly geared more to towards the more academic and the government giving their views that thats the only group of students their interested in really, erm because their obsessed with the idea that the rigger must come back in GCSE, they have been too easy. Rhetorical Question

Where

Presenter Now, did you ever think that your dog would be able to understand you? Well, new research conducted by Psychologist Dr Julianne Kaminski, a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth suggests that dogs can understand the way a human thinks. She found that dogs were more likely to disobey orders such as dont eat the food when lights were turned off as they know that humans cant see well in the dark. So, what do you think? Our Correspondent Zia Khan took to the streets of Oldham and asked the public whether they think their dogs can understand them. (30 secs)
