Band7:The2.6GHzauctionshavebeenrunninginafewcountriesduring2007and 2008,andcontinueduring2009/2010. Band8:iscurrentlyusedmostlybyGSM.Thebandisattractivefromacoverage pointofviewduetothelowerpropagationlosses.ThebandcanbereusedforLTE orforHSPA. Band3:isalsousedbyGSM,butinmanycasesBand3isnotasheavilyusedby GSMasBand8.ThatmakesrefarmingforLTEsimpler.

TheLTElinkbudgetindownlinkhasseveralsimilaritieswithHSPAandthe maximumpathlossissimilar. The h uplink l kparthas h somedifferences: d ff smaller ll interference f margininLTE,nomacro diversitygaininLTEandnofastfadingmargininLTE. ThelinkbudgetsshowthatLTEcanbedeployedusingexistingGSMandHSPAsites assumingthatthesamefrequencyisusedforLTEasforGSMandHSPA. LTEitselfdoesnotprovideanymajorboostinthecoverage.Thatisbecausethe transmissionpowerlevelsandtheRFnoisefiguresarealsosimilarinGSMand HSPAtechnologies,andthelinkperformanceatlowdataratesisnotmuch differentinLTEthaninHSPA. Thelinkbudgetwascalculatedfor64kbpsuplink,whichislikelynotahighenough dataratefortruebroadbandservice.Ifwewanttoguaranteehigherdataratesin LTE,wemayneedlowfrequencydeployment,additionalsites,activeantenna solutionsorlocalareasolutions.
