Device Placement Requirements and Dimensions

Device Placement Requirements and Dimensions

Before attaching the mounting rails or trays in the Telco rack, you
must decide where to put them. Where you install the devices
depends on the kinds of devices you will install.

Position in Rack

Devices with internal cooling fans that move air from front to back
(or vice versa) and not from beneath or above have no special cooling
requirements that direct placement in the rack. All of the storage
systems and enclosures mentioned in this document have fans that
move air from front to back.
Requirements are as follows:

SPSs (required for write caching) must be located immediately

below the DPE2 or SPE whose power it will provide.
IMPORTANT: The DPE2 or SPE ac power cords connect to the SPS
output ac receptacle.

DAEs should be above their respective DPE2 or SPE to facilitate

cable routing in the rear of the Telco rack.

Power distribution must support the number of outlets required

for the device and the device power rating. For power, cooling,
and weight information, refer to the appropriate documentation
for each device.

Mounting Hardware Installations

Mounting Hardware Installations

This section describes how to assemble and install the mounting kit
hardware for an SPS, DPE2, SPE, DAE2P, and DAE2 in a Telco rack.
To assemble and install the SPS and DPE2 or SPE mounting trays to
the Telco rack, go to the next section.
If you have already assembled and installed the SPS and DPE2 or SPE
mounting trays and want to install a DAE or a switch, see Installing
3U DAE Mounting Trays on page 23 or Installing Switch Mounting Trays
on page 25.

Installing the SPS and DPE2 or SPE Mounting Trays

The SPS front and rear trays do not attach directly to the Telco vertical
rails; instead, they attach to the bottom of the corresponding sections
of the DPE2 (3U) or SPE (4U) front and rear trays. You must assemble
the SPS front and rear trays to the DPE2 or SPE front and rear trays
before you can install them to the Telco rack.
Assembling the
Front Trays

Follow the steps below to assemble the SPS front tray to the DPE2 or
SPE front tray.
NOTE: The DPE2 front tray is part of the FRAME-T-DAE2 kit. The SPE front
tray is part of the FRAME-T-SPE kit.

1. Place the SPS front tray on a table so that the front of the tray is
facing you, as illustrated below.

5. Using four M5 x 12 SEMS screws, secure the front DPE2 or SPE
tray to the front SPS tray, as illustrated below.

Installing the Front

Tray Assembly

EMC2571

Follow the procedures below to install the front tray assembly (the
combined SPS front tray and DPE2 or SPE front tray) to the Telco
rack.
1. Determine where in the rack you intend to position the front tray
assembly (the combined SPS and DPE2 or SPE front trays).
2. Align the screw holes on the front tray assembly with the screw
holes on the Telco rack.
3. Secure the front tray assembly to the rack, with six M5 x 12
screws, three per side, for a DPE2 or SPE.

Installing 3U DAE Mounting Trays

This section describes how to install the front and rear DAE (DAE2 or
DAE2P) trays to the Telco rack.
Installing the DAE Front
Tray

Important: You must install the front DAE tray either directly above the front
DPE2 or SPE/SPS tray assembly or directly above another DAE.

1. Align the screw holes on the outer edges of the DAE front tray
with the holes on the rack.
2. Secure the tray to the rack with six M5 x 12 mm screws, three per
side. See the figure below.
If you are installing the unit in a NEBS-compliant environment, secure the tray
to the front channel with the shape thread rolling screw, supplied with your
installation hardware in part number 100-560-644.

The SPS tray can hold one or two SPS units. The steps below describe
how to install either a single SPS or dual SPSs.
1. Place the SPS on the right of the rear tray. Slide it forward until
the rear end of the SPS meets the back end of the SPS front tray.
2. Using four M4 x .7 x 8 mm screws, secure the outside edge of the
left SPS to the rear tray with the SPS mounting bracket, as

Installing the DAE2, DAE2P, DPE2, or SPE Enclosures

Follow the steps below to install a DAE2, DAE2P, DPE2 or SPE
enclosures into the Telco rack.
WARNING
The enclosure is heavy and should be installed into a rack by two
people. To avoid personal injury and/or damage to the equipment, do
not attempt to lift and install the enclosure into a rack without help
from another person.

WARNUNG
einbauen.
1. Attach the clip of the ESD strap to bare metal on the enclosure,
and put the wristband around your wrist with the metal button
against your skin.
2. With two people, lift the enclosure up and place it on the edge of
the enclosure front tray.
3. Push the enclosure in until the front flanges of the enclosure are
flush against the rack.
4. Attach the front of the unit to the front tray with four pan-head
M5 x12mm SEMS screws, two per side.
If you are installing the enclosure in a NEBS-compliant environment,
secure the unit to the front tray with the shape thread rolling screws
supplied with your installation hardware in part number 100-560-644.

Installing the Switch Enclosures

This section describes how to install a switch in the Telco rack. Before
you can install the switch, you must attach the mounting slide rails to
the switch.
Attaching the
Mounting Slide Rails

Mounting slide rails are attached directly to the switch. It is

important that you use the correct side mounting bracket for your
switch. The table below illustrates the appropriate side mounting
bracket for the switches that are supported in the Telco rack.

Flat Mounting Slide Rails

Follow the procedures below to install the mounting slide rails to

your switch.
1. Locate the appropriate left and right mounting slide rails for your
switch (refer to the table above).
2. Depending on your switch type, attach the left and right
mounting slide rails to the switch, as shown in the figures below.
For the DS-16B2 and DS-32B2 use six #8-32 x 5/16 pan-head
SEMS screws, three per side. For the DS-16M2, DS-24M2, and
DS-32M2, use ten #6-32 x .375 flat-head screws, five per side.

Installing the Switch

Once you have attached the mounting slide rails to the switch, you
can install the switch in the Telco rack as described below.
1. Place the switch on the rear switch tray. Slide it forward until the
rear end of the switch (the end without the ports) meets the back
end of the front switch tray.
2. Using one M4 x 14 mm pan-head SEMS screw, secure the switch
mounting slide rails to the front switch tray. Secure the screw
with one M4 washer and one M4 kep nut (in this order), as shown
below. Repeat this step for the other side.
