CITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES THAT IT WILL RETAIN ITS STUDENT WORK STUDY PROGRAM DESPITE GOVERNMENT SPENDING CUTS. CHICAGO, March 11, 2013After recent federal spending cuts, City College has found a way to keep students in their work-study program with minimal impact to their status. City College is a two-year school with approximately 15,000 students. The cut will affect roughly 3,000 of those students. Chicagos West College and College of the Lakes are faced with similar cuts by the federal government. To keep students working, the office of work-study decided rather than cutting students in the program, the college will reduce the students hours by 5 percent instead. Losing students in the program was not an option. We reviewed the budget and determined that we could keep the students working. Says school Chancellor Cheryl Hyman. By reducing the hours City College will be able to keep the 3,000 students working and keeping their enrollment status. City College has a reputation for excellence and is continually ranked a state leader for the number of students who transfer each year to a university. ### Contact: Troy Mosley Director of Student Work-Study City College Chicago, IL 60601 P (312) 554-6779
