PROGRESS CONTINUES ON METROLINX LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT PROJECTS Request for Proposals Closed for Scarborough/Sheppard Maintenance and Storage Facility
TORONTO The request for proposals period for the Scarborough/Sheppard Maintenance and Storage Facility project is now closed and bids have been received from each of the shortlisted teams. Companies from all over the world participated in a fair and competitive process that reviewed and evaluated their ability to design, construct, maintain and finance the new facility. The shortlisted bidders include Plenary Infrastructure, Sheppard Facility Development Group, and Sheppard Transit Partners. Their bids will be evaluated over the next couple months. The new Scarborough/Sheppard Maintenance and Storage Facility will provide essential services for the new light rail vehicles operating on the Scarborough and Sheppard East LRT lines, which are part of Metrolinxs The Big Move. The building will feature a car-house, storage track, brake test track, traction power substation and railroad machinery. Following evaluations, Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx will select a preferred proposal, and then negotiate a final contract with the preferred bidder. The entire process is being overseen by a fairness monitor and the successful team will be announced in fall 2013. A copy of the request for proposals is available on Infrastructure Ontarios website at www.infrastructureontario.ca. Infrastructure Ontario is a crown agency of the Province of Ontario that delivers large, complex infrastructure renewal projects on time and on budget. Over the last six years, the province has applied Infrastructure Ontarios alternative financing and procurement model to 80 major projects valued at approximately $30 billion dollars, saving taxpayers an estimated $3 billion dollars. Infrastructure Ontario also manages one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, provides municipalities and eligible public sector clients with financing to renew public infrastructure, and leverages its private-sector expertise to manage major commercial transactions on behalf of the province. Metrolinx is an agency of the Province of Ontario that is responsible for implementing The Big Move, a 25year plan to implement a common vision for transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The Big Move is in progress with over $16 billion in projects currently under construction all across the GTHA, including four LRT projects in Toronto. The Big Moves Next Wave projects will continue Metrolinxs transformation of the regions transportation system by expanding the regional transit network as well as providing resources for local transit, roads, active transportation and more. Quotes: Glen Murray, Minister of Transportation and Minister of Infrastructure The new Ontario governments investments in public transit will strengthen our economy and create more jobs and opportunities across the province. This project is the first of many that will improve transit services in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Bruce McCuaig, Metrolinx President and CEO The Metrolinx light rail transit projects in Toronto represent an $8.4 billion investment in improved public transit and this maintenance storage facility is an integral part of that plan. Once complete, the new facility will support our commitment to providing more reliable and efficient transit choices for commuters.
