Grade 6/7 Space: Critical Challenge !

You have just discovered that our planet will be completely lled with garbage and unt for human habitation in the near future. You have decided to start up your own space destination company. As part of starting a business, there are many tasks that you will need to complete before your company can take other humans into space. You rst need to become an inner and outer space, and space travel expert. This guide will lead you through activities and tasks that will help you achieve your goal of owning and running a space destination company. You will have to work hard and be organized, to be ready for the International Space Exploration Expo (space expo for short). At the Space Expo you will display and demonstrate your learning, as well as pitch your ideas to parents and students. Tentatively, the space expo is set for Friday, May 31st. To become a space expert you will need to: Curriculum Outcomes SS6.1 research and represent the physical characteristics of the major components of the solar system, including the sun, planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. demonstrate your understanding of astronomical phenomena, including phases, eclipses, and seasons. evaluate past, current, and possible future space exploration programs including space probes and human spaceight, which support working and living in the inner solar system. examine connections between human fascination with ight and technologies and careers based on the scientic principles of ight. investigate how the forces of thrust, drag, lift, and gravity act on living things and constructed devices that y through the air. Design a working prototype of a ying object that meets specied performance criteria.

You will be given class time to work on each assignment and due dates will be set in consultation with your teacher. All assignments will be included and on display at your space expo. What are things that need to be done to get this information to kids? What are the choices that they will have? What if in their own choices some of the information is not covered? What is an element that Amy and Carol will help with? This assignment will continue to go on whether they are in the classroom or not, what is the best use of their time and expertise? Would it be best to get help with the writing and story boarding? How can Laura best help? What will we do during those times? What is a good science ction story to read with kids? What videos and experts would be helpful? Do we have the money for eld trips, and if so, where do we want to go to best support the learning?
