Final Reflection I will start off my reflection paper by saying that I have truly enjoyed your class this

semester. This class was a nice transition from English 1101 to research based college level English. I have learned many things from over the semester, and they have all helped me to become a better writer. Over the time of the course, I have learned how to read and write critically and how to do research for major projects. Throughout my academic career, English has always been my strongest subject. I love to write and I love being able to express myself through words and images. I never struggled in English because it always came easy to me. Teachers and professors would give me an assignment, and I would flush out a perfect paper. At times I would simply follow the guidelines, and I thought that was good enough to get an A. It was good enough to get an A, but I was never challenged enough. This year in my English 1102 class, I was challenged to do my best and succeed. When I first came into the class, I did not know what to expect. I was anxious, nervous, and excited all at the same time. I am confident in my writing, but I thought college papers would be very hard to write, and I would not be able to do it. Watching The Office really helped me to grasp the concept of the different vocabulary. Most students go through school not paying attention to anything. They just worry about what they have to just to get through the semester. This semester I went beyond the standards of a typical college English class. I explored different figured worlds and how actors play a role in their specific discourse community. At first I was scared coming into this class because I did not know what to expect. This semester I have gone beyond the guidelines. This phrase was something I learned this semester. Professor Haywood would challenge the class to always go beyond the typical requirements for each assignment. Many times wile completing assignments I would push myself to think outside of the box. I would try to make myself master the vocabulary, or fully understand the concept of an article we were reading. At times it was very challenging because the subject matter of the material was not easy. As I write this reflection paper at the end of the semester I am very proud myself. First, I am proud of myself for not failing my second English class in college. Also, I am proud because I feel like I have done well in the class, and my grades have reflected that. My abilities have strengthened and now I can do research better, and it does not take me as long as it did to complete papers. I can go beyond the guidelines of the paper. I am a social work major, and this class has helped me to do a lot of different things in regards to going beyond the set limits. In regards to my writing I am most proud of how far I have come. And now I feel I can write papers that have more intellectual meaning. My English experience last year was very positive. I love English, and I like to write. All of the projects connected together to ultimately make me a better writer and reader.

These projects caused me to critically write. Assignment 1 was a stepping-stone for Assignment 2 , and Assignment 2 was crucial for Assignment 3. The hardest thing for me was to put all of my work together in a portfolio. I waited, and procrastinated over the semester, and I have learned from that. In English 1102, I liked to participate in class discussions and activities. I was always engaged in class because I liked what we were reading. Even if it was very hard to understand like Gees Reading, Specialist Language Development and Video Games or Barlett and Hollands Theorizing The Space For Literacy Practices. At times, I did not know about the vocabulary, but I tried to understand it. This was a reflection of my whole semester in English 1102. Over the span of one semester I have learned so much about critical reading and writing. I have learned how to master the act of peer reviewing, and helped my classmates write better papers. Also, I have learned how to watch something and relate it a writing. I have used these skills in many other aspects of my writing and reading career in college. This class has taught me so much about writing and research based English.
