ROBBERS
DIY GIGS IN LEEDS
SEPTEMBER 2008
As Earth Wind And Fire will tell you, September is that month you
will always remember. The keenly observant will notice that we
carry no gigs at The Common Place this month. Their
performance and alcohol license was revoked last month, the
culmination of a great deal of hassle from the police and local
authority following the screening of a film showing police
violence. Naturally, the Common Place are appealing against the
withdrawal of their license; naturally, this costs a lot of money. A
benefit CD is in production and will be available soon. For more
information or to help please visit www.thecommonplace.org.uk
or check the C&R forum for updates.
HAPPENING ALL THIS MONTH
LIME (Leeds Independent Media Exposition) is an event taking
place at the Central Library in September this year. It’s a
celebration of the work of DIY art and music communities in
Leeds.

MOLLIGER
PARTY LIKE IT’S 2009! If Gay Against You made an album for
naughty toddlers, it would probably sound a bit like Molliger. All
the way from Brisbane, Australia, Gwen and Tutts make a fucked
up duo electro racket in the style of Toxic Lipstick, Jean Genet
and early Hawnay Troof. Gwen sings about stinky used condoms
and kicking people in the cunt. Tutts throws himself around her
feet while thrashing his guitar over the super fast electro backing
track. Total party in the purest, silliest and most energetic sense,
Molliger have shared stages with the likes of Ove-Naxx, Kevin
Blechdom and Max Tundra and they are FUN! This is definitely a
one-off and not to be missed. So it’s a Tuesday, so what! Fuck it!!
Eight bands play across two stages in the same venue - four
chosen by local DIY promoters Forest of Sound, four chosen by
fantastic local independent label Gizeh Records.
The bill will slowly reveal itself over the next few weeks, we’ve
got some nice surprises line up for this!+All your favourite Distro,
Disco, Tea Ladies Craft Wonderland, Packhorse Sunday Roast
Saturday 4th October at The Brudenell Social Club
Not to be missed!
Cops And Robbers is a free monthly guide to DIY gigs in
Leeds; something which is hard to define but we tend to
know it when we see it. These events don’t exist to make
a profit for anyone involved, they are organised for the
sheer pleasure and enjoyment of playing, organising or
attending a gig. Look for us every month in Jumbo, Crash,
and other places around town, and at various gigs.
