A faculty member will evaluate your work and, upon satisfactory completion of all course requirements, you will earn one graduate credit from Waldens Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership, a National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)accredited college.

Building Academic Language in the Content Areas Discipline in the Secondary Classroom: Positive Behavior Management (Grades 912) Based on Randall Spricks book, Discipline in the Secondary Classroom: A Positive Approach to Behavior Management, this course examines research-based practices for increasing students motivation to learn and strategies for preventing behavioral issues in the secondary classroom. (Grades 512) Based on Jeff Zwiers book, Building Academic Language: Essential Practices for Content Classrooms, this course examines the characteristics of academic language in the content areas, the connection between academic language and higherorder thinking skills, and research-based strategies for building academic language skills.

The Autism Checklist: Strategies to Support Academic and Social Growth for Children With Autism The ESL/ELL Teachers Survival Guide: Strategies to Support English Language Learners (Grades 412) Based on The ESL/ELL Teachers Survival Guide: Ready-to-Use Strategies, Tools, and Activities for Teaching All Levels by Larry Ferlazzo and Katie Hull Sypnieski, this course examines effective practices for supporting English Language Learners (ELLs) in the classroom as well as strategies for communicating with parents and community members. (Grades K12) Based on The Autism Checklist: A Practical Reference for Parents and Teachers by Paula Kluth and John Shouse, this course examines the characteristics of individuals on the autism spectrum and explores practical strategies and resources available for helping them succeed both academically and socially. Educators also consider strategies for teaching literacy and math skills and creating effective learning environments for these students.

Accreditation The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses offered to preK12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
