INDUSTRIAL TANKS
APPLICATIONS
Rammed Aggregate Pier elements are constructed by drilling a cavity (Geopier replacement process) or driving a hollow mandrel (Impact or Rampact displacement processes) to the design depth and ramming select aggregate in thin lifts. Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) construction results in very dense aggregate piers used to reinforce soft soils and ll for support of large diameter storage tanks and industrial foundations.
1.
The process begins by drilling a hole (Geopier) up to 30 feet or driving a hollow mandrel (Impact or Rampact) to design depths up to 45 feet. The Geopier process allows for visual inspection of the spoils between borings, conrming the reinforcement of poor soils. The Impact and Rampact processes are displacement approaches that are well-suited in high groundwater conditions. The installation process eliminates spoils and the risk of casing while signicantly improving granular soils. Layers of aggregate are placed into the cavity and compacted in thin lifts. A patented beveled tamper rams each layer of aggregate using static downforce and vertical impact ramming energy, resulting in superior strength and sti ness. The tamper densies aggregate vertically and forces aggregate laterally into the loose or soft matrix soil. This results in improved soil sti ness and excellent coupling with surrounding soils to deliver highly reliable settlement control. Following installation, the Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) systems support tanks, mats, industrial foundations and oor slabs eliminating the need for deep foundation or overexcavation and replacement. Loads are concentrated to the sti piers, resulting in improved bearing support and engineered settlement control.

Settlement Control
RAP solutions demonstrate superior strength and sti ness to provide demonstrated settlement control of tanks, mats, shallow foundations and other structures. The system is engineered to provide a cost-e ective approach to meet both total and di erential settlement requirements. Our engineered solutions and site specic modulus testing combined with the experience of providing settlement control for hundreds of heavy tanks, provide an unmatched level of support and reliability.
