Example the application of water to a person to be baptized. 2. Form - There has to be some words or gestures that will give meaning to what we do. So this other element in the sign of a sacrament-the words and gesture which give significance to what is being done- is called the Form of the Sacrament. Instituted by Christ: We know that no human power, not even the divinely guided but humanly applied power of the church could attach an inward grace to an outward sign. This is something that only God can do, thus it was instituted by Christ which is the second element.

Between the time he began His public life and the time he ascended into heaven, Jesus fashioned the Seven Sacraments. To Give Grace: The essential purpose of a sacrament is to give Grace unless it give grace of itself. Grace : is an interior supernatural gift of God bestowed on us through the merits of Jesus Christ for our salvation.

Kinds of Graces: 1. Sanctifying Grace- is that supernatural power granted by God to me the Soul of the recipient Holy and pleasing to Him. Sanctifying grace is abiding and permanent lost only by Mortal Sin. Effects of Sanctifying Grace a) It makes us Holy and pleasing to God b) It makes us adopted children of God c) It makes us the temple of the Holy Spirit. d) It gives us right to enter Heaven 2. Actual grace-Supernatural help from God by which he enlightens our mind and strengthen our will to do good and avoid sin. Actual grace is temporary- that is given to us only when we need it to do a good act or to overcome a temptation. Actual grace is necessary for all who have attained the use of reason because without it we cant resist the power of temptation nor perform other actions which merit a reward in heaven.
