Water is one of the major feature in many environments.

Human experience it in many forms oceans, rivers, lakes, stream, mist, fog , rain and snow. It affects climate and ecological balance. Still water It is define as a flat, static, quiet and non-moving water such as ponds, pools, lakes, puddles, tarns and holes from wear in road surfaces. Still water is as fascinating as flowing water, although not as dramatic. But the reflections and the light ripples creates an untimely atmosphere that captivate us. Still water expresses a balance and equilibrium with the force of gravity in the visual power of display. Lakes It is a body of still water lying in depressed ground and it can be natural or man-made. It is relatively motionless and surrounded by land. Lakes are mainly freshwater, but salt and bitter lakes are found in areas of low annual rainfall and uneven surfaces. The rate of evaporation exceeds the rate of inflow, allowing mineral salts to accumulate. Natural lakes are commonly found in glaciated regions, along the courses of slow rivers, and in low land near the sea. In the 20th century, large artificial lakes have been created in connection with hydroelectric and other machineries for aesthetic and leisure purposes. Formation of Natural Lakes Many lakes were formed as a result of glacial action. Glaciers formed lake basins by digging holes in loose soil or soft bedrock, depositing material across stream beds, or leaving buried chunks of ice that melt later to leave lake basins. When these natural captivity filled with water, thus lake is formed.

According to National Lakes Information Database of Malaysia, there are 90 lakes found in Malaysia, both natural and man-made, with the objective of providing implementation purposes such as irrigation, recreation, hydropower, flood control, water supply.

Type of Lakes (in Malaysia) Artificial Lakes Oxbow Lakes Underground Lakes

Artificial Lakes (also known as reservoir) can be created in river valleys by the construction of a dam or built by excavation in the ground or by conventional constructions techniques. When water falling as rain upstream of the reservoir together with any groundwater emerging as springs is stored in the reservoir. Any excess water can be spilled via a specifically designed spillway. Stored water may be directed for use as drinking water, to generate hydro-electricity or to maintain river flows to support downstream uses.

Kenyir Lake It is the largest man-made lake in the world, located in the stare of Terengganu in the northeast Malaysia. This immense lake shared it border with Kelantan in the west and Pahang in the south. It also serves another gateway to Taman Negara. Kenyir Lake covers 260km and contains 340 small islands, which were hiltops and highlands, more than 14 waterfalls, numerous rapids and rivers.

Oxbow Lake is a U-shaped body of water formed when a wide meander from the main stream of a river is cur off to create a lake. They are called "oxbow" lakes due to the characteristic curved shapes that results from this developments. Oxbow Lake in Kinabatangan Kinabatangan is Malaysia's second largest river with a length of 560km. It floods the banks of its lower reaches every monsoon season, creating oxbow lakes and concentrating wildlife on raised patches of dry land.

Underground Lake It is a lake found under the surface of the Earth's crust. It is normally connected with caves, springs. Rio Secreto, Mexico Over many many centuries an underground river of pure water has been carving out pure beauty beneath. The care taken by the owners and guides to ensure it stays pure for future generations is a great thing to see. All must shower before entering, all are briefed on how to avoid touching the stalactites etc to stop human contamination. No glaring touristic lights to show the way or footways. It truly is just you, a headtorch and an awesome natural paradise.

Ponds An inland body of standing water that is smaller than a lake. Natural ponds form in small depressions and are usually shallow enough to support rooted vegetation across most or all of their areas. Man-made ponds are designed for aesthetic ornamentations such as water gardens and koi pond. Ponds are shallow bodies of water that allow enough sunlight to reach their bottom. The sunlight supports the growth of rooted plants from shore to shore. Ponds often support a large variety of animal and plant life. The presence of eco-system pond is selfsustaining with very minimal maintenance. Most popular pond found in Malaysia is Koi Pond. Koi Pond Koi pond are designed to promote the health and growth of Nishikigoi. The architecture of koi pond bring great effect on the health and the wellbeing of koi. Koi fish is very popular in Japan as Japanese believe that every house need a garden at home and koi fish brings in prosperity to the family. In fengshui, koi has its influences to brighten the house with its beauty and colors in a dynamic way which they flow in the pond.

Puddle It is a small accumulation of liquid, usually water on a surface. It can form either by pooling in a depression on the surface, or by surface tension upon a flat surface. They are formed at any places from rain water, in gardens. In natural landscape, puddle provide essential moisture of small wildlife. It is a drinking source for the wildlife. However, puddles tend to evaporate quickly due to the high surface area-to-volume ratio, allowing a large number of molecules to be vaporized at once. For the some puddles which do not evaporate quickly, it become standing water. It become polluted by decaying organisms and often a home to breeding mosquitoes.

Pool It is a small body of still water. With a clean and simple character, a vanishing edge pool redirects the focus of the water feature from the water container to the water itself. Providing there are no other water effects within the pool, the surface of a vanishing edge pool is highly reflective and can complement the surrounding environment. Vanishing edge pools are used to creating a sense of serenity and mystery. Type of Pool Swimming Pool Reflecting Pool Swimming Pool is a container filled with water intended for swimming or water-based recreation.
