Check that you have all your PPE (personal protective equipment) fire and first aid gear, felling aids wedges, hammer, axe, spare bar and at least 1 spare chain, signage and spare saw.
All tools and equipment, well maintained and in safe working condition (industry standard)
Use the felling line on the chainsaw to set the direction and make the first cut
The top cut has been done, and faller is starting the second cut. Make sure both cuts are level.
Keep firm grip on both handles, feet slightly apart and let the chainsaw do the work
Double check the direction, before you start the felling cut. Place your hammer or a wedge in the centre of the scarf
Make the felling cut, 10% of the diameter of the tree, above the bottom cut of the scarf, and level
Continue with the felling cut, as you get close to setting the hinge, keep an eye out for movement. The felling cut will start to open, look straight up the stem it should be moving forward, if it doesnt, place a wedge in the felling cut and drive it until firm. Set the hinge and switch chainsaw off and drive wedge until the tree releases.
