CAPACITY
Power Stations around the world are always looking for ways to increase Unit capacity. Whether to increase the net output, or simply to return to design output, increased output means increased revenue. STEP|C takes a whole-ofplant approach to determine safe, economic & technically viable solutions to help a Plant achieve a higher capacity.

Methodology
STEP|C has been developed to identify the improvement potentials in plants required/ desiring to increase their output STEP|C follows a structured assessment method, drawing on the experience gained during previous ECO|RAM and STEP|x projects. As with all such assessments, ALSTOM uses a co-operative approach to draw from the knowledge and experience of station staff. Comprehensive technical and operational benchmark data and a catalogue of potential improvement measures to support the systematic analysis of a plant

Process
In Phase 1 the current condition and performance of the plant is determined by a site assessment. New improvement ideas are generated, then reviewed, grouped & selected as Potentials. Each Potential is investigated to determine technical feasibility and expected benefit. Based on the results of Phase 1 the customer decides which potentials shall be further elaborated in the second phase. Phase 1 is typically executed within 6-8 weeks. In Phase 2, each selected potential is analyzed in greater detail. A comprehensive technical review is undertaken. Costs and benefits including initial investment, ongoing operating costs, projected payback and technical benefits are quantified. The upstream/ downstream effect on auxiliary systems such as the Coal Handling, Water Supply, Ash and Dust Removal is also investigated in more detail. In the final report the customer receives all the information he should need to select potentials for implementation. The time frame of Phase 2 depends greatly on the findings of Phase 1, but will usually take 12-16 weeks.
