LEIGHTON OFFSHORE AND LEIGHTON ENGINEERING BRING CHEER TO ORPHANAGE

In the spirit of caring, sharing and giving during the holy month of Ramadhan, Leighton Offshore and Leighton Engineering recently brought some festive cheer to 46 underprivileged children at Rumah Kebajikan Baitul Hidayah. Located in Puchong, Selangor, the home was founded in 2009 and houses children from 6 months to 16 years old. The management team and staff of Leighton Offshore and Leighton Engineering were given a warm kompang welcome by the children. Held as part of the organisations Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the highlight of the event saw all the unprivileged children receiving school bags each packed with stationeries. Leighton Offshore and Leighton Engineering donated about RM15,000 cash besides food items, toiletries and Raya clothes. Part of the money was raised by the employees. Heads of Departments and 40 volunteers from various departments were also present. Representing Leighton Offshore, Peter Collings, Head of HR, said, As a parent myself, I understand the plight of these underprivileged children. Big corporations have a role to play in driving initiatives like this and we at Leighton Offshore and Leighton Engineering are happy to be able to lend a helping hand to those who need it. We hope that this aid will at least help to ease their burden from the rising cost of living. We want to do our part in contributing towards the welfare of these deserving children. It is an honour to receive contributions and donations from Leighton Offshore. It has been a challenging task to run Baitul Hidayah especially with the lack of funding and rise of living costs. We want to thank Leighton Offshore and Leighton Engineering for sharing the festive cheer with our children, said Pn. Azuana, who runs the home with her husband, En. Gzahari. Another highlight of the event was a singing performance by the children after which each of them was given a packet of duit raya by Dato Ismail Mohamed, Director of Leighton Engineering. The management team and staff spent some time playing and chatting with the children. The laughter and joy shown on the faces of the children indeed gave a big encouragement for the organization to keep efforts such as this, going every year.
