COLLEGE AUDITORIUM IN TRICHY CASE STUDY

We, Acoustic India Private Limited undertook the Auditorium Acoustic Treatment Project of a College in Trichy. The project involved pre-installation study of the Auditorium's Acoustical Condition, Acoustic Design & Process Design Proposal as well as project execution and validation.

Reverberation
Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a particular space after the original sound is removed. Reverberation is created when a sound is produced in an enclosed space causing a large number of echoes to build up and then slowly decay as the sound is absorbed by the walls and air. RT60 is the time required for reflections of a direct sound decay by 60 dB below the level of the direct sound.

List Of Instruments
1. Larson Davis model 831 Precision Integrated Sound level meter. 2. Microphone Preamplifier (16 to 140 dB measurement range) 3. Microphone 1/2 free-field pre-polarized microphone,50 mV/Pa, providing performance conforming to Class 1 sound level meter standards.

Noise Source
The isotropic source is made of 8 speakers embedded in a robust box, which produce an acoustic field very close to the spherical approximation. It contain the amplification , the power supply system, the noise generator and the mechanical support.

Experimental Procedure
The following is the experimental procedure: 1. Measure the background noise using sound level meter. 2. Switch on the source, by remote control, so that acoustical field can go in a stationary state. 3. Start the measurement and recording of data. 4. Switch of the source, so that acoustical field start its decay. 5. Stop the measurement and data recording.

Reverberation Time Calculation

The reverberation time is calculated according to the ISO 3382 Standard. In particular we consider the descending part of the plot, starting from the point where the level is lowered of 5dB (with respect to the average maximum value), until point in which the level is lowered of 65 dB. We refer to this value as RT60.

Problem Identified
Based on the above mentioned reverberation analysis method, the acoustical settings of the hall was identified to be not in accordance with that required for Speech & Audio Visual Presentation.

Proposed Solution
The below mentioned materials were used for correcting the acoulstical settings of the College Auditorium in Trichy .

Fabric Acoustic Panel

Our Fabric Wrapped Acoustic Panels offers an appealing solution to your reverberant noise problems within Speech Presentation Spaces.

Wooden Acoustic Panel

Our Wooden Panels reduce reverberation time, eliminate flutter echo, limit unwanted sound reflection, ensure good aesthetics and acoustical performance in a wide variety of spaces.

Conclusion
Thus the acoustical settings of College Auditorium in Trichy was studied, analysed as well as corrected using appropriate acoustical materials.
