(Eccentric, segmental or quadrant edged orifices may be used for special services such as slurry, wet gas or highly viscous service 4.2.3 In general, the orifice plate flow element shall be coupled with a force balanced or bellows type meter. The bellows type meter shall be provided with a built-in adjustable dampening device. 4.2.4 The Orifice Plate Assembly shall be capable of withstanding differential pressure equal to full line pressure without zero or calibration change. 4.2.5 Orifice plate beta ratio (orifice diameter/ inside pipe diameter) shall be between 0.2 and 0.75. 4.3 Material:

4.3.1 The material requirements for orifice plates shall in general be according to clause 3.6.4.5 of Instrumentation Design Criteria and the material selection chart provided in Annexure I of this specification. 4.3.2 The Contractor shall ensure that all wetted parts are compatible with the process conditions. Plates shall be minimum SS 316, unless otherwise mentioned.

Range:

4.4.1 Differential ranges for orifice flow meters shall not exceed 5000 mm (200 inches) of water. Typical meter ranges for gas, steam, or vapor, streams shall be as follows: STATIC PRESSURE (Kg / cm2 g (PSIG)) 0.35 to 2.5 (5-35) 2.5 to 6 (35 - 85) Above 6 (Above 85) DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE (mm of Water (inches)) 500 - 1250 (20 - 50) 1250 - 2500 (50 - 100) 2500 - 5000 (100 - 200)

4.4.2 The range 2500 mm (100 inches) is desirable where possible. 4.4.3 Orifice meter ranges shall be chosen such that the normal flow is between 60% and 80% of the meter range. 4.5 Scales:

4.5.1 Scales for orifice shall be 0 - 10 square root with multiplying factor to suit rate of flow requirements. 4.6 Flanges:

4.6.1 Orifice flanges and fittings shall be installed according to AGA - Gas Measurement Committee Report No. 3. 4.6.2 Orifice flanges shall be in accordance with piping classification with a minimum flange rating of 300# ANSI and a minimum of 1-inch pipe size. 4.6.3 Two pairs of flange taps located diametrically opposite shall be provided. These flange taps shall be of size NPT. The taps shall be 45o above the horizontal for gases and 45o below for liquids. Upstream and downstream tappings shall be oriented 90o to each other. The wetted part of the flange shall be of the same material as the plate. 4.6.4 Mating orifice flanges shall be so aligned that jackscrews are diametrically opposite. 4.6.5 Orifice flange shall be in general be weld neck.

Meter Runs:

4.7.1 All meter runs shall be designed for flange tap differential measurement unless otherwise specified and fabricated as per AGA - Gas measurement committee report No. 3. 4.7.2 A beta ratio of 0.75 shall be used to determine the required upstream/downstream straight runs as far as possible. 4.7.3 Orifice meter runs shall not be less than 1 - nominal pipe size. 4.7.4 Generally, the straight lengths of upstream and downstream pipe work run for an orifice installation shall be 15D and 8D respectively (10D and 5D minimum). No connections shall be made in either the upstream or downstream straight pipe work, other than the orifice flange tappings. In case sufficient straight run is not available for the given piping geometry, meter runs with straightening vanes may be used. These straightening vanes shall be of flanged type and shall be as per AGA 3. The straightening vane material shall be same as that of plate material. 4.8 Orifice Plate Sizing:

4.8.1 Orifice plate sizing shall be based on L.K. SPINK and AGA Report No. 3. Orifice plate sizing calculations shall be submitted to Company for review. 5.0 5.1 6.0 6.1 EQUIPMENT PROTECTION: Orifice Meter protection requirements shall in general be as per clause no. 3.6.4.4 of Instrumentation Design Criteria. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS: The installation of orifice plate meters shall in general be according to clause 3.6.4.6 of Instrumentation Design Criteria and as per Annexure II (Hook-up drawing for Orifice Meters) of this document. Orifice meter design and installation shall be in accordance with the AGA - Gas Measurement Committee Report No. 3. It is preferred that metering orifices be located in horizontal lines. Orifice flanges or meter tubes shall be installed horizontally near the deck or platform for ease of accessibility and safe changing of the orifice plate.

Orifice meters shall not be installed so that a person changing the orifice plate is required to stand directly over the top of the fitting. Orifice plates shall be installed after line flushing is completed, before hydrotesting. Prior to installing the orifice plate, it shall be checked against the Instrument Specification sheet and inspected by the Companys representative. The static pressure element shall be connected to the downstream pressure tap on gas flow measurement. The static sensing point shall be independent of the differential sensing points. Piping and equipment shall be arranged so that flashing does not occur at or upstream of orifice plates. In general, the straight lengths of upstream and downstream pipe work run for an orifice installation shall be 15D and 8D respectively (10D and 5D minimum). No connections shall be made in either the upstream or downstream straight pipework, other than the orifice flange tappings. The piping layout shall always be arranged such that straightening vanes are not required and gas meter runs are self-draining. Upstream elbows in more than one plane shall be avoided to minimize vorticity. Once the orifice plate is installed, it shall be checked for correct alignment, and correct orientation with respect to the process flow. CALIBRATION, INSPECTION & TESTING: Calibration, inspection and testing requirements shall in general be as per clause 3.6.4.7 of Instrumentation Design Criteria. In addition, the following shall also be taken care of: Orifice Plates shall be checked visually for nameplate data and for an upstream sharp edge. Bore shall be callipered to check for compliance with specifications. All socket-weldings shall be 100% Dye penetration / Magnetic particle tested. All other welding shall be 100% radiographed.
