Maggy Krell

Bio
Maggy Krell has dedicated her entire legal career to making her community a better place. She began as a prosecutor in the Attorney Generals Office in the criminal division. In order to gain more trial experience, Maggy went to work in one of the toughest areas in California. As a Deputy District Attorney in Stockton, Maggy prosecuted a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. She was asked to rejoin the Attorney Generals Office where she went to work as a trial prosecutor and an appellate attorney in both state and federal courts throughout California.

After a Kern County District Attorney Investigator was robbed at gunpoint by gang members, the Attorney General sent Maggy to handle the prosecution of several members of the East Side Crips in Bakersfield. When Lassen County authorities were unable to stop a savage killer from being paroled, they asked the Attorney General's Office for help. Again, Maggy was dispatched to re-evaluate a 1988 homicide where he was a suspect. She successfully prosecuted the cold case, keeping the killer behind bars. Maggy has handled hundreds of cases including complex death penalty litigation and defending the sentence and conviction of Sacramentos Thrill Killer who murdered six innocent victims during two robberies. Maggy has also been cross-designated by the United States Attorneys Office and serves as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. Maggys legal expertise was also brought to bear when the Attorney General selected her to serve on the newly created California Mortgage Fraud Strike Force, where she has worked tirelessly to protect distressed homeowners from fraud and unfair business practices. In this capacity, Maggy has filed a number of aggressive criminal cases against those who prey on vulnerable Californians, particularly non-English speaking communities and the elderly. For her hard work, Maggy received an Attorney General Team Excellence Award in 2012.Maggy has never let budget challenges or a lack of resources stop her. She successfully built coalitions with other law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to work as a team to prevent and prosecute mortgage fraud. Currently, Maggy is leading efforts to investigate human trafficking, by joining with other law enforcement agencies and victim service organizations to put an end to an egregious yet often undetected criminal industry that plagues Sacramento streets. Maggy is a staunch advocate for victims rights and has the broad experience Sacramento needs as the District Attorneys office embarks on new challenges under prison realignment and tight budgets. Maggy has also volunteered for numerous charity and community projects over the years. Maggy graduated from King Hall at U.C. Davis School of Law and attended college at U.C. San Diego. She has been an adjunct professor at Davis, teaching trial skills to second and third year law students as well as teaching trial fundamentals to other attorneys at the Attorney General's Office. Maggy and her husband Cary live in Sacramento, raising two wonderful children. In their free time she and Cary participate in the Tough Mudder, a rigorous run and obstacle course that raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project. With your support, Maggy seeks to serve the citizens of Sacramento County as District Attorney and is committed to making Sacramento safer for her family and yours.
