Julie Hermann
Julie Hermann is in her 15th year in athletic administration at the University of Louisville and current NACWAA president. Hermann's primary responsibilities at Louisville are supervising sports (men's and women's soccer, track and field, cross country, swimming and diving, tennis and golf, women's basketball, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing and softball), Student Development, Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Marketing, Development and the Academic Unit as well as serving as the Senior Woman Administrator. Hermann has served on numerous local and national boards and committees including the Center for Women and Families, Women 4 Women, Metro Parks, Frazier Rehab Institute, YMCA, the Louisville Sports Commission, the Kentucky Sports Commission, the Commission on the Status of Women, the AVCA Hall of Fame selection committee, the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee serving as Chair and the National Association of Collegiate Women's Administrators. Prior to joining U of L, Hermann was with USA Volleyball as a Technical Assistant, helping the World University Games team to a silver medal in 1997. Before joining the National Team, Hermann served as the Head Volleyball coach at the University of Tennessee and Northern Arizona and was an assistant coach at the University of Georgia and the University of Wyoming. Hermann was an All-Big Eight volleyball player at the University of Nebraska from 1981-84 as the Huskers won four conference championships and played in four consecutive NCAA tournaments earning a pair of top 5 finishes. NACWAA recently asked Hermann 10 questions about leadership, life and success. NACWAA: Whats the best career advice youve ever received? JH: The best advice that I have ever received was to get a network and use it. NACWAA: Whats the biggest career obstacle youve faced? JH: Being a creative and living in a world of unrelenting competitors. NACWAA: Whats one fact about you many people may not know? JH: I am an introvert. NACWAA: Is there a specific event or individual who has influenced you career? JH: My college coach and my boss. If I made a list of 10 defining moments that became a theme or mantra in my life, five of them came from Terry Pettit and five came from Tom Jurich!

NACWAA: What do more women need to learn to be successful in intercollegiate athletics? JH: More women need to learn how to raise revenue. NACWAA: What book are you currently reading? JH: Becoming a True Champion by Kirk Mango. His daughter played volleyball for us and he was a collegiate gymnast. NACWAA: Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that you live by? JH: We did then what we knew best to do. Now that we know better, we'll do better. -Maya A. NACWAA: What does success mean to you? JH: We maxed out and we "did it the right way" at all times. NACWAA: Whats your success secret? JH: My personal measurement is intense work ethic and transparency at all times. NACWAA: Whats one goal you still want to achieve? JH: We want to play for 23 National Titles every year. And I'd like to have enough free time to be considered a painter.
