VESTIGATION
On 082299, I telephonically interviewed Kristin Garramone, a student at Columbine High
School. Kristen reported to methat she was interviewed once before by Jefferson County
DistrictAttorneys Office. Possiblyby JohnLauck.
On 042099, around 111:5 hours KristenGarramone was in the cafeteriaeating lunchwhen
the shooting incident began. Kristin said she was sitting at a table almost directly in the
middle of the cafeteria. She was sittingwith, Dustin Gordon, Greg Garcia, Sean Roberts,
Richie Green, Bret Kostnalik, Paul Andrews, Dustin Meyersand others that she could not
recall their names. While eating lunch a commotion broke out Soon afterwards she saw
students and Mr. Sanders run in and yelled for students to get down on the floor. She
could hear gunshot. Shetold me the gunshots sounded like firecrackers. Garramone and
her friends hid on the cafeteria floor for awhile. She then got up and ran into the kitchen
where she hid in a mop closet with Sean Roberts, Greg Garcia, Austin Meyers, Paul
Andrews, some of the lunch staff, some teachers and others that she could not recall their
names. Shewas later rescued.

Garramone recalled stepping over a large pllCk on her way into the cafeteria on that day.
She thought it was a duffel bag, but could not be sure. She reported that thls was not
unusual, because the cafeteria always had backpacks lying all over the floor.
Garramone said that she could not see the shooting or the shooters from her table
location. She was only able to hear the shooting. Garramone told me that she was
surrounded by her friends and couldnot see anything,
Garramone did report to losing her bllCkpack on 042099 in the cafeteria, She said it was
biack,

of the identity of the interviewing Agent and the purpose of the
in~erview. Also in attendance during the interview was Jessica
Rosecrans and Cyenthia Margects. Garrett provided the folloWing
information:
Garrett i$ a freshman at columbine High Sohool (CHSJ.
Garrett does not personally know ~ric Harris nor Dylan Klebold.
On April 20. 1999, Garrett went to sohool and attended
olasses from apprOXimately 7:30 a.m. until 11:10 a.m. At 11:10
a.m., Garrete went eo lunch at the school's cafeteria and sac at
apprOXimately 'I'a.ble DD. At Garrett'$ taJ:lle Wile Kenny Rupp, Bo
LaSt N"me unknown, Mike Naifeh. and Jarrett Saer. After getting
his Luncn, Garrett sat down at his table and observed everyone
around him getting down on the floor. The janitors told everyone
to get down. Garrett heard gunShots to the west. outside the
cafeteria. Garrett ran east along the oafeteria's south wall and
into the foreign language area. Garrett ran out the school's
lower level south door with Nat ow.n ~ ilaine Last Name
Unknown. 'l'h"y ran acrou the $Cr.."t. Garrett could not provide
any additional information regarding the inoident.
Paul Freeman saw guys with guns in the oafeteria.

Ref Interviewof Columbine Sophomore '"Ielinda Gartoni DOB 09·21·83

On 05·11·99 at II 00 A.M. Detective Terry Dernrnel, who is assigned with The

Columbine Law Enforcement Task Force.contacted Columbine Sophomorestduent
MelindaGartcni at her home. Melinda s motherwas present for the interview. Melinda
reported that on Tuesday the 10'" 'he had .I" hour off and was in tile Commons when 'he
heard what sounded like fire works going off outsideof the cafeteria that caused about 50
students to get up and run towards the wnndews Melinda heard 4 loud bangs ana heard
the cafeteria window get hit and glass break. People were yelling to get down and she
momentarily crawled under a table Melinda marked on the map which table she was
seared at when the incident began. Melindahad gotten down when she saw a person
dressed in all black. wearing a trench coat with somethingdark wrapped around hi' upper
face: 'he couldn't see if he was wearing a hat or not; walk into the cafeteria from the
north door by the pop machines. Melindastared tha; the party had a long black gun and
was alone.

Melindareported that she knew who Dylanwas and had said .. Hi " to him several times
but ,hal she could not identifythe personwho walked into the cafeteria wearing the
trench coat and carrying the gun.

When the party with the gun carneInto the cafeteria Melinda stated 'he began to run
when she tripped over a chair and fell down, Melindathen ran up some stairs and

started go into the Library when she changed her directionand went into the
auditorium where she stayed for a while. She began screaming and was helped up and
Jedout by another student that she stated was '"ran Kechter: one the victims that was then
killed.

Melinda reported that she ran into the main hallway and out of the east main entrance
door The glass from the door fell on them as they wee going through it Melinda
suspects that the glass was already broken from what she thought was baseballs as she
reports seeing baseballs lying on the ground outside of the door.

Del. Dernmel asked Melinda if she saw any unusual items or bags in the cafeteria while
she was intnere with Melinda reporting that she thinks she saw a big red duffel bag that
was larger than the many back. packs that are normally in the cafeteria. Melinda reported
that the bag was approximately 10 feel south of the table she was seated at and was
sitting on top of a table. Melinda says that she got to the cafeteria table about I 1.15
A.M. she believes and that was about the time that she saw the bag.

Bae was asked ifwhile she was seated in the cafeteriaIfshe observedtwo largeduffle bags or sports hags. one being blue in color
and the other being an crangishred in color. whichwere locat~d in the- central.;ore area. I was asking if she absented {hose bags
or if she observedanyone bring those bags in on the incidentdate, She could not provide any lnformeuon reference the bags
Bae proceeded to tell me mat between the hours of 1115 and 11 :W, that sitehadgone up to the food service line where she got
her lunch and pr<X'eeded back to her t3ble, telling me- thaI she wasseared on the south east corner of the table and that she could
easily leek CUt the west WindOWS of the cafeteria.

At abour t ! 15 hours, Bee recalled hearing popping noises, She referred to them as grecrackers coming from outside the cafeteria
She told me that shortly after the popping noises. she saw t\.VO janitors, onejanitor she identified as "joe:' the second janitor she
did not know ius name but described him as a. white male.'Short. slenderbuild.. brown hair. mustache. had on blue jean$> tennis
shoe, anda blackbaseball cap. Shetoldme tha' the twojanitors were yelling at the SlU<1e1lu to get downunderthe tables. She
initially thought mat there was a fight going on betweenSTUdents or was possibly some type of a senior prank, but she gor under
the table. not knowing what was gOing on.

not. as she was trying to figure out where she would go Bat told me that she ran into tilt! auditorium Once inside the
auditorium. she med to get into the audio room, but dledoor was tacked. At that point, she reid me that she sat de....rn in a corner
and there were several other studentsaround her. She couldn't provideany identities to those students and theyjust waited in
the' auditorium.

Bat explained that she was probably in the auditorium foraboutten minutes. when an unidennfledwhite male: studentcame into
the auditorium and rold themthat they neededto leavethe school She told me that this individual led themout crthe auditorium
wherethey exitedinto the main hallway ofrhe schooland ran easttowardthe mainoffice ,-'\$ they reachedt..,e doorsat the main
entrance. Bae recalls hearing gunshots coming from down the hallway, just behind her and as she: reached the ~lass doors, she

I asked Bee if she had ever lookedback when she got to the main exits to see who was tiring the weapon behind her She stated

brown hairandwascarrying a longgun SheCQt.dd provide noadditional information or description reference thisperson. t':Hing
meshejus, saw him ata quickglance as site wasgoing out the doors. Through <he description that Ba. had given meinreference
to suspect #2 who she saw outside. west of the cafeteria. This description sounds like Eric Hams after he had shed his black
trench coat prier to entering mto the west doors of the school.

Bae was shown phore lineup =9 and asked if she ."uld identitY any of me,ubJe<:!S as beingme individuals she observed in rhe
schoolon 04-Z.0~99 Bae immediately picked picture :3:). wl\Q was identified as Dylan Klebold. telling me he is the indh idual
he describedas suspect #1. and later observed walkingin the cafeteria at the high school. Bae was then shownpboroline up
page 43 and asked if she could identify any ofthose subJects, She immediately pointedto picture #2, which depictsEric Harris
and stated she recognized Eric H:arris from the media accounts.but she could not positively identify him as beingsuspect :;t~

Bae was asked if she knew Eric Harrisor Dylan Kl:bold or an~ of the associares ofthc Trench Coal Mafia, She stated rhaz she
knew the two were students but she couldn't provide any addiricnal infcrmaricn about the two. She also told me that the onl;
associatethat she knew Qfthe Trench Coat Mafia was a ~e}jss.a Sowderand she briefly mentioned. an incidentthat occurredat

On 05-\1·99, a, about \0:30 a.rn., I interviewed CMS student Araceli Gaucin as follow up on DN2415 Although thelead 'heel
mdrcated that Araceti was previously interviewed. she told me thatshe was not The interview was conducted at Aracelis
home. while her parents were at work.

Ataceli told me that on 04-20..99. at aecut 11; I0 a.m . she had just finished her fourth period class, which is located on the

school's upper level. After leaving class.Aracell said that she went to her locker and placed her backpack inside it. She then

waited forher friend, Student Michelle Huff'(1Hh), whoarrived at Araceli's locker within a minute or so, Aracelisaid thai she

On May 5, 1999 at about 1900hours [ met with Katherine Karen Gerum(dobI S-16-83)
at 7889 West Caley Drive in Littleton. CO for the purposesof an interview. Mr. Peter
Gerum was also present,

Katherine Gerum provided the foUowing information regarding the April 20, 1999
incident at Columbine High School:

It shouldbe noted that Katherine normally wears a hearing aid and appearsto be a special
needs student

• Katherine was in Mr, Sander's Keyboan:! class prior to lunch (near the Marketing
Department on the lower level). She statedthat she got out at i 1:10 and went straight
to lunch. She sits at the bottomof the Stain at a rectangular table. Shestaledthat she
did not go into the cafeteria at any time and thereforedid not seeany large bags,
duffelor otherwise, sitting on the floor.

• Katherine denies going into Rebel Corneror to the Student Store. Shestated that she
was sitting with a Sarah (from keyboarding class) and Heather (unknown last name),
She statedthat the second bell had already rang (post Il:lS a.m.). She thought that it
was'just another day" ar school

• Katherine stated that a short lime later a female student came in the soulll cafeteria
doors and said "that a girl got shot". She statedthat Mr. Sanders thencarne in and
toldeveryone to "get down". She stated that she got on the floor forabout "2
seconds" and then gOt up and ran at !he direction of Mr. Sanders.

• Katherine stated!hat the went to !he Auditorium via !he hall near the cafeteria. She
Stated that from rhe auditorium, a bunch of studentswere trying to go up the right
side. but that !hey all turned around, Site "figures thai there was a gunman up there",
but did not see one. She stated that they all went up the left side after that She stated
that they then went east towardthe main entranceand then took a leftand down a

reported that she entered the cafeteriaat approx. 11.IOAM and she sat at table H with
Mike Gagne, lauren Tocci, Chris Masi.., Joslyn (unk last name), Jenny Ribble and
Veronica Griffith. Jessica said someoneyelled that there was a fightand tney all got up to
look OUI the windows. Jessica said she saw two guys dressed in TrenchCoats. and a guy
in white T-shirt possiblywith them standingnear the cementstain;. Jessicasaid she
couldn't identify the parties. Jessica said she heard gun shots but she didn't see who was
shooting. Jessica said she ran up the mainstairs to the second floor and then she ran Out
the main hallway. Jessica said she didn't see the reM on the outside of the schoolafter
the incident. Jessica said she left her maroon East Side backpack by table Jl.

Jessica related that she observeda rCM girl. Alex (unk last name) near tables J or I

Jessica said Eric Harris look her and KatieThompson. and Veronica Griffith to lunch

idenc:cy of the interIlewing Agent, and the nature and purpose of
the interv1ew. She was in~erviewed in the presence of ~er
Mother, Marilyn Gillette, DOB 1(20/49. She provided the
Eoilowing informa~icn.
On 4/20/99, Brittany arrived'at sChool at approximately
7:15 a.m. She went to the cafeteria/commons area to work on a
school scien~e projec~. She noticed many backpacks, and also
athlete' type duffel bags, but nOne that stood out of che
ordinary to her. There were approx~mately 75 other students in
the area as well. Af:er this, she went to her normal days
classes, the lase c:ass she hao was gym class, but she ~ad a
headache, so she went back to the commons to work on her science
projec~ a~ approximately 10:15 a.m. She then stayed in the
cafeter~a unt~l lunch hour begar.. She was seated at cable II.
Seated at the caDle ~ieh her we~e the following s~udents:

Marnee Mack and Brittany went up :0 the lunch line, bought lunch,
and returned ~o their cable, B~i~canny heard people 9asping. and
she then heard Mr. Sander$ yelling for everyone co get down.
Out5ide of the west cafeteria ~i~dows, she could see someone in a
black trench coat moving around, Her and Marnee chen got under
:~e~~ cable, While under the cable, she could hear shoes, and
she noted eb~c students began :0 stand up and run for the stairs.
She d,d the same, but fell as she went up the stairs, and had a
difficult time getting up because of an injury sustained from
gymnastics. She lay on the stair landing and saw a male in a
t::ench coat that she could not .dentify come through the door of
the cafeteria. He was pointing the gun in her direction and
randomly shooting. She was then helped up by an unidentified
student. got to the top of the stair!, ~~d with the assistance of
thiS student, ran down the math science wing hallway. At this
point, she heard shots coming from near the library, and looked
back and heard an explosion from near the library, and saw smoke
la this vlciniey as well. As she was r~~ning down the hallway,

Quarto Drive, Littleton, Colorado, was advised of the identity of
the interviewin9 Aqent, and the nature and purpose of the
interview. She provided the followinq information.
A previous interview conducted with Brittany on
4/30/99, was referenoed and the 302 provided for her to review.
Specific reference in the body of the 302 was made to her viewinq
a ;unman enterinq the cafeteria durinq the course of the
Columbine Hiqh School shootinq incident. She was then shown a
series of photographs in a photo lineup in order to determine if
any of these photoqrephs were the same individual that she saw on
4/20/99, previously referenced. She positively identified a
photcgraph of Dylan Klebold as the ;unman Who entered the
cafeteria on 4/20/99 as related in the interview conducted on
4/20/99.

On May S, 1999 at 1930 hours I contacted Sarah Gillings at her home

for an interview. Her parents were present. Sarah then tol~ me the
following:

• She is a freshman at Columbine High.

she did noe know his name.

• When asked about Dylan Klebold, she said said she has also seen
him around s<:nool but did not know his name. She said that Dylan
looks ·a lot like another trench coat student: named Robert. When
asked if that last nam.. might be Perry, she said "yeah, ehae' s his
name, ,.

• When asked about , she said that he was the student

who used to wear a beret. She did not know his name bue has heard
other stu~ent$ meneion his name as a t~ench coat student, The las~
ti':'ne she saw was about a month ago. She eit.her saw
. , out front or by the commons.

• When asked about sne had never heard t.hat. name

before the shooting, but has heard it mentioned sinoe.

it She did not mow any other nameS of trench coac students or
associates. She thcught abcut 12 eo 15 different seudents wore the
trench coat at times, She has heard the name, T:-ench Coat Mafia,
and said it was another name for that social group.

• When asked~ she did not see any of the students mentioned abo~

or other trencn coat seudents or associates in the sohool lOhe day of

the shoeting.

• she rut""r saw any unusual objeocs in sohool the day of the
shQocing. When aSKed speoifioally about a duffle bag, she said that
chers are always larger sport bags around from st.udenes who are in
sports. When asked specifically about duffle bags in the cafeteria,
she said there w~ra too many backpacks and bags to notice.

• The day of the shooting, she had 4th hour French class in the
foreign language area. Afeer getting out at 11:10 a.m., she went
direct:ly to the cafeteria and saw a male friend named Chris Lucas

who theD walked with he.. to her locker by the gym so ahe could get
her Walkman. She returned to the cafeteria and dropped her backpack
off at a table. She looked at the diagram and thought the table was
K. ~his was confirmed by the backpack location list.

• After dropping her backpack off, "he "'ent. to the pop ma.chines
by the west cafeteria door. She st;art;ad to "'alk back to the table
and noticed Chris ",as in the far west lunoh lina. She turned around
and got in lina with Chris. She did not see iUly other students at
table K when she dropped off her backpaclc She said that; her
friends usually occupy table K and L fcr lunch.

* The time now was around 11:15 or l~:20 a,m. She heard whac she
thought was a car in the lot backfire. She then Saw ooach S~~der.
come in the cafeteria fr~~ the ~est door area and ~ell eve=¥one to,
Hget down, get down, If She did not know where coach Sanders then
went. She ..aw janitors l:'Unning in the "afeteria alao telling
students to get down.

• Sh.. then got Clown =der a sma.ll ledg.. in the food line with
Chris and a Kim Pehart. She heard an explosion, looked out west in
the lot and saw t;he fire and smoke from that explosion. She saw
students st:art eo run out of the cafeteria and over the railing' to
the stairs.

• She decided tc 1e...."e and went with Chris .....ac along the food
line and then got herded in by the kitchen door at the east end of
the kitchen. She was with about 30 ..tudent... She said th..re waS a
lot of s"reaming and crying from students.

.. She may ha.ve heard some gunshots I but was not sure. She then
heard and felt the next explosion that she though went cff somewhere
in the cafeteria because is sounded so close.

• Mr. 1\ndres Jr. and a gr...y haired janitor who was tall with a.
mustacne then took her group to the door that leadS to the baok of
the stag.. in th.. a.uditorium. They then went up the left auditorium

aisle and out to the main hallway, once at the hallway, she glanced
left and noticed that the set of doors that she thought were fire
dOQrs just west of the audicorium door were closed. They went down
the main hallway toward the main doors but were herded north down
tne hallway to the arts area, They then came out the set of doors
lly the northeast eorne.r of the gym. A Mr, !lutts was their also,
they then wane to ffsmoker's pit~ and then out to Clement park.

• She thought it took from 5 to 10 minutes to get out of the

school from cbe time t.he in<::ident began. She was wearing a black
tank top, loose fitting jeans and black shoes.

It" She then said that she had talked to a neighbor student who
li~es on Plymouth Plaoe named Gabe Montoya. She said that Gabe told
her that the Netihen who lives on his street: told nim at:: 2:00 p,m,
the day of the shooting that Corey DePooter had died. She said Gabe
told he" that Nathan told him be heard that on the news, She
thought that was suspicious because no names were released that
early, She said that she has seen this Nathan before and described
him as tall, skinny, oval face, with black buzz cut hair. She said
t.hat Gabe a.lso told her t::hat he sa.w what he thou'g'hr:. was Dylan s

small black car and another tan sedan at Nathan'S house the morning
b"fore the shooting. She said that Nathan dresses noml but
appara.nely has Marilyn Manson posters in his room. She said that
Nathan has since moved to Flc~ida with his parents.

She raports getting under the tablefor about 30 seconds then ran up the stairs as other students began
exiting the cafelena, She ran up the main stairs, past the library and started down the main hallway towards
the exit, when she observed the windows in these _>delior doors shatter, She doesnot recall heanng
gunfire in this area. She and5·6 other students turned around ran towards the auditorium where they hid
for 1·2 minutes belore exiting a northdoorwith another student, Salli Melli

Once outside she proceed to Clements Park, eventually caillng her mother and leaVing the area.

On 5/5/99, Daniel Gonzales, DOB 2/5/83, 7339 South
Zephyr Way, Littleton, Colorado, was advised of the identity of
the intervieWing A~ent, and the nature and purpose of the
interview. fle was interviewed in the preIHnee ef l1is ""ther,
Valerie Hightower, OOB 8/4/59, he provided the following
information.
On 4/20/99, Daniel reported to Coluabine High School at
6'30 a.m. for a football weight workout which was l1ald in the
sehool weight room. After the workout, he went to the
cafeteria/commons area for breakfast at approximately 8'10 a.m.
Thera ware approximately 30-40 stUdents in the eafetaria at this
time. He didn't notiee any large duffel bags that stood out to
l1im, or notice anyone carry any duffel bags into the eafeteria.
After he ate, he went to his normal morning ela..es. His last
class prior to first period lunch was his science class.
Directly after seianee class, Daniel went to the
cafeteria via the stairs near tI1e library. Again, Daniel didn't
notice any dUffel bags in the cafeteria that stood out to him.
He located himself at table JJ or possibly u, bought his lunch,
and then ret=ned to his table. He was seated at his table "itl1
the following individuals.

3. Johnathan Caruso
4. Pat Simminqton
After he finished eatinq, Daniel noted approximately six fresn.an
run into the cafeteria trom the west side uea. He then heard an
individual named Justin Norman yell that someone just got shot.
An explosion and a shot were heard while a janitor was yelling
for everyone to get down; the janitor came in from outside of the
school. Oaniel and his friends then got down under th" table.
Next, students hegan getting up and runninq towards the stairs.
The group that Daniel was witll ran to the elevator, qot on and
took it to near tI1e library upstairs. However, when the elevator
opened, tl1ey saw a lot of smoke near tI1" library, and rode the
elevator b...:k down. From their, they went into the allQitorium
with Coach Andres Jr., and a janitor. Th. janitor locked all the

doors, and they remained in the cafeteria for approxi=ately 10

minutes. The j anitor then unlock.1i one of the doors, and the
qroup ran out the foreign language balls, outside the scbool,
aorose pierce, and into Leawood park. After several minutes in
tbe park, someone yelled 'they are .hoo1:1n..... At this point,
they ran into the neighborbood, and into a house of an unknown
lady.
As previously mentioned, Daniel did not see any clutfal
bags at any time, that stood out to him. Additionally, h. did
not see Klebold or Harris on Monday or TUesday. Although ha
knows who the Trenoh coat Matia (TCM) is, be does not associate
with them. He .... id that the athlete oroWd and TCM would banter
insults baok and forth, bUt that he didn't think it was a big
deal. Joey Mallazo told Daniel that he saw four people in trench
coats outside: ..
Daniel dces use the Internet, however he does not have
a screen name or ICQ. He uses the Internet only for school
projeo1:s.
Although he didn't hear or saa the Rebel Naws Network,
he heard that the thought for the day was something to the effect
of ·you'll wish you hadn't coma today' ..

Plymouth Place, Littleton, Coloraao, telephone (3031973-2746, a
sophomore a~ Columbine High School, was interviewed at her home
in the presence of her mother, Margo GOodwin, by Special
Agent (SAl Ricky v. W~ight ~egarcting the incident that took place
on 04/20/1999 at Columbine High School . . After being advised as
to the identity of the intervieWing agent and the nature of the
inte~"ew, GOoQwin provided the following information:

At approximately 11:10 am, Goodwin got ou~ of Algebra

II; located in the ma~h department, and went to ner locker, which
is located directly out~ide the math department in the south main
hall. Goodwin was with her friend. Lauren Bonin. and walked
directly from her locker down the stairs to the cafeteria.
Goodwin then sat down at a lunchroom table(marked NN on diagram
sketchl. Goodwin recalls. that Kristen Sheffiela, La~a Kenney,
Andrea Launer I Niki Lawson, Katie Sullivan. and Sarah Dodrill
were also seated at her table, Goodwin wae sitting facing
southwest. Lara Kenney was sitting to Goodwin's left and Kristen
Sheffield was sitting to her right.
Goodwin did no~ get lunch ana just sat ana talkea to
her friends, Alter Goodwin had been sitting approximately five
m~nutes, Goodwin noticed Mr. Brookfield hU~ry east along the
north siae of the cafete~ia carrying a tray of food. Mr.
Srookfield was hunched down and quickly set down his tray on a
nearby table. A janitor along the north side of the cafeteria
then started yelling and telling people to get aown and not to
get up. Gooctwin and her friend'! got under the table ana stayed
there approxima~ely 30 seconaG. Gooawin heard several pops
coming from outside the west side of the cafeteria. Some male
students on the east end of the cafeteria then started yelling
for everyone to get Qut.
Gooctwin left the auaitorium by running up the stairs,
east down the south main hall, and into ~he auditorium from a
door on the southeast side. There was a teacher in the
auditorium who was telling the students to hide in the back of
the auditorium~ Goodwin estimates that there were 30 students in
the upper end of th4 auditorium. Goodwin saw Stefania Ubowski
and Samancha Haviland hiding in the auditorium as well. Goodwin

was in the auditorium only a few minutes, when Michelle ROme4Q

grabbed her hand and they ran out the northeast door of the
auditorium into the north main hall. There were a lot of
students in the hall. Goodwin and Romero ran east down the north
main hall toward the main entrance to the school. When they were
10'15 feet from the inner door of the main entrance, one of the
windows on the left side of the door shattered. Goodwin does not
know what:: made the window shatter. GooQ'Win and Romero continued
out the main entrance. through the teachers' parking let. and to
Clement Park. Goodwin recalls that Mr. Peterson was in the
teachers' parking lot directing the students to Clema~t Park.
Goodwin was not in the oafeter~a at any other time that
day. GOodwin did not see the gunmen and did not See any large
duffle bags sitting in the cafeteria during lunch. Goodwin did
not know Eric Harris, Dylan Xlehold. or any other members of the
Trenchcoat Mafia. GOodwin does not haYe an Internet screen name.

the table. Bryan Grande said he was with the following other students. Heather Wrabetz and SrephanieIunknown last namei,
Bryan Grande said that he was facing in a northwesterly direction when he heard two to three what he desert bed as pops from
outside of the cafeteria and when he looked out of the windows he saw a female fall to the ground outside of the cafeteria. Bryan
Grande said he did not knowwho this female was. but believed it was a student, and said a malestudent. who he know, as Jason
Otenwreath, was helping this female. Bryansaid he did not knowwhat happened to Jason due to the fact that he go, underneath
the table when told to do so and hid. He said other swdents began '0 stand up from the tablesand run toward the "airs, Which
was east of their current location, Bryan Grande said behind his table and to the east a few feet was a trash can by an exterior
door, He said he hid behind this trash can for an estimated 45 minutes Bryan Grande said during his time behindthe trash can
he estimatedthat he heard 30 to 40 other gUnShots and they sounded likethey were coming from the library He described the
soundas coming from above his location. which he 'aid would be the library on 'he second floor of the high school Bryan
Grande said at no time did he see any of the suspects, nor did he see anyone with a weapon" He said while he was hiding.
however, he heard somebody say. "Let's shoot up," He said he docsnot believe they were referring to narcotics, but rather
~etting ready to shoot their weapons. He also said ha heardthe name"Dominic" mentioned. but he did not know who thatmight
be. Bryan sed she does not know anyonenamed "Dominic." I asked Bryan Grande if'he considered running from the trash can
to the exteriordoor of the cafeteria that was behind him, He stated he did not think to do this because he did not want to take
an) chanceand try to run out if the suspects were in the cafeteria. Bryan Grande said when he sew an explosion take placein the
cafeteria. he stood up from behind the trash can and ran out of the door behind hirn. exiting the school through the cafeteria
Bryan Grande said he then ran through the senior parking lot and hid behind a car until he was contacted by the police.

I asked BryanGrande about the "Trench Coat Mafia." He advised methat he does not know any members of the "Trench Coat
Mafia:' nor did he know any "ftheir names prior to this incident. He did say approximately twO weeks before this incident he
mayhave seena studentcarryinga blue duffle bag in the school and he said rbis srudentwas a male. possibly. Bryansaidhe does
not recallany other further information about where in the school it was being carried or any otherdescriptionof the itembeing
carried

Bryan Grande advised me that on 4-20-99 he was wearing a black I-shirt that has three to four buttons on the front of it, blue
jeans. and blue high top tennis shoes.

pierced eyebrow, He said he does have the Internet in the house, however. it has been broken and not usable for some time !
gave Bryan Grande a business card and advised him that if he needed to talk with anybody, such as a counselor or Victim
Advocate tocall me and I would make those arrangements for him, Bryan saidhe believes he wasdoingokay,but ifhe has an,
problems he will get in contactwith me in the future.

School, Candace Grande showed me whereshe had been seated, This wasa table along the south side of the cafererie and west
of thestairs. She said her table was closestto the doorson the south side of the cafeteria that lead outside. CandaceGrande said
she wasat this table with the following other students, Jenmfer Arzola. MattBruce, AndreaElsner,and Ben Schuman, Candace
Grande said approximatelytwo minutesafter siltingdown, a fellow student named Ben Schuman came runningto their table
from thesrudentstore, located In Columbine HighSchool. andsaid, "Someone go shot," CandaceGrande said thejanitor inside
the cafeteriayelledat everybody to get downon the ground and underneath meirtables, which is what they did, Candace Grande
saidapproximately one to threeminuteslaterseveralstudentsgot up from underthe tables and began runningin a north easterly
direction toward'he stair. that lead to the upper part of Columbine High School. CandaceGrande said that as she got [0 [he top
of the statts she heard three what she called gunshots that sounded like, "pop, pop, pop" and she said they sounded to her like
they werecoming from the downstairs part of the high school. CandaceGrandesaid .fter running to the top of these "tUI'S she
turnedto her left and ran down the school until she got to the exteriordoorsand exited the school, CandaceGrande said she ran
from the school. across- Pierce. and into Leawood Park, where several other studentswere at. Candace Grande said while In
Leawood Park she heard what she believedwas a bomb[hatdetonated inside of the high school.

Candace Grande advised me that until this incident she knew nothing of the "TrenchCoat Mafia,"nor did she know any of the
members or activities. Candacesaid about one to two weekspriorto this incident she saw a malesubject she described as tall.
approximately 6'1", wearing a black baseball cap backwards that had a red bill, and said he it was a male subject and he was
wearing a dark coloredtrench coat. As far as Candace Grande could remember. this party wasaloneand at the time waswalking
downa hallwayin ColumbineHigh School by himself, She said on 4-20-99,prior to or during this Incident, 'he did not see any
people wearing trench coats or other clothing mat the the "Trench Coat Mafia" studentswear,

CandaceGrande said that on +.20..99, the clothingshe was wearing was a white men's dress shirt. worn over a black tank top.
gray pants, and brown sandals, She 'aid she did not see any duffle bags or the propane tanks in the cafeteria on 4-20-99
Candace Grande saidshedoes notknow of any other students or otherpeople that may be manufacturing explosive devices and/or

CandaceGrande said when she was in Leawood Park she did not hear any ll\lllSholS directed towards the students in the park,
norwas she aware that anybody had believed they had been shot at in the park, She said she went with Mall Bruce eastbound
on Fair to Gray Street. where Kevin Kuom picked them upand took them to Matt Bruce's place. It was at Matt Bruce's place
where Candace Grande contacted Gary Grande by telephone.

Daniel R. Grange, DOB 03/09/~984, 5484 South Hoyt

Street, Littleton, Colorado, telephone (303)979-0265, a freshman
at Columbine High School, was interviewed at his home in the
presence of his mother, Dixie Grange, by Special Agent (SAl Rioky
V. Wright regarding the incident that took plaoe on 04/20/1999 at
Columbine High School. After being advised as to the identity of
the interviewing agent and the nature of the interview, Grange
provided the following information,
At approximately 11:10 am, Grange got out of Spanish
class, taught by Mr. Freund, and left the foreign language
department and went directly to the oafeteria. Grange sat down
at a oafeteria tablelmarked 5B on the diagram sketchl. Also
sitting at the same table as Grange, were Spencer Wright, Aaron
Wright, Seth Oubois, and Michael Huntington. Grange was sitting
facing west with Aaron Wright sitting to his left. Grange does
not remember who was sitting to his right.
Grange had not gotten his lunch yet, when he heard a
pop; which sounded like a firework outside the cafeteria. Grange
looked out the west windows of the cafeteria and saw a boy
running up the hill to the northwest of the cafeteria. Grange
estimates that the bey was about 40-45 feet away from the
building. Grange was unable to describe the boy further. Gr~~ge
did not see anyone else outside the oafeteria. Grange thinks
that someone then yelled for everyone to get down. Grange got
down under his table. While ~~der his table, he observed an
explosion next to a black Honda Passport in the parking lot
approximately 30-35 feet from the building. Grange does not
think anyone was around the explosion.
After the explosion, someone told the students to run.
Grange grabbed his baokpack and got up and ran up the stairs to
the main level. Grange saw Mr. Sanders lying about 15 feet to
the right of the top of the stairs. He was struggling to get up
and had blood coming out of his mouth. JUst east down the main
hallway, a teaoher, Ms. Miller, was directing students into the
science area and Grange ran into a classroom in the southwest
corner of the science area~

There were about 60 students hiding in the classroom,

including a teacher] Mr. Friesen. After a few minutes, Mr.
Sanders came in and fell just inside the door. They locked the
classroom door ~~d used their shirts to try and stop the bleeding
on Mr. Sanders. There were no other injured in the classroom.
The class huddled in the classroom for approximately three hours.
Grange did not see the gunmen, but thinks that at some time they
did go into one of the science classrooms east of where he was
and tried to start a fire by turning on the gas and throwing a
bomb.
After three hours, a SWAT team came and evacuated them
from the classroom. The SWAT team made them all put their hands
on their heads and sent them out down the sea irs and out the
school by the faculty lounge. Once outside the students waited
far police cars to take them to Clement Park.
Grange was also in the cafeteria before fist period
with Spencer Grange, Aaron Wright, Spencer Wright, and Spencer
Taylor. They were sitting in the vicinity of the table marked H
on the diagram sketch. The cafeteria was approximately two-
thirds full at that time. Grange did not remember seeing any
large duffle bags sitting in the cafeteria before first period or
at lunch. Grange did not know Eric Harris, Dyl~~ Klebold, or any
of the other members of the Trenchcoat Mafia. Grange did not see
any of the gunmen during the shooting.
Grange is aware that his friend .~ron Wright saw one of
the gunmen in the parking lot prior to the shooting with a large
black duffle bag. On the day of the shooting, Grange was wearing
khaki shorts, bright blue shirt, white socks, and white and blue
shoes. Grange may also have been wearing a Cleveland Indians
hat.

Narrative:Re: Control #35

On 04-27·1999, contact was made wi!h Samuel Granillo regarding his observations on 04-17·99. He noted
being in 1$ (A) lunch, seated with Sarah Slater (303-973-5968), at table "YY· as identified on the drawing as
prepared by SIA Dtrito, He reports no suspicious items in the area of !he table. Nor did he observe el!her
suspect or known associates in !he lunchroom prior to the incident.

He was first alerted of trouble by Mr Dave Sanders running Into the lunchroom from the area of the senior
parking lot and yelling "Get Down". He Initially !hought It to be a fight in !he parking lot. and maybe
someone had a gun. A very short time later, Mr Sanders ran into the lunchroom a second time and again
yelled "Everyone under the tables". He began to exit !he lunchroom wi!h other students via the main
stairway. when he heard a loud explosion from !hat direction and turned and ran into the kitchen area where
he met 2 kitchen workers, and 14 other students. (Included among the 14 was Sarah Slater, Ricky Green,
Heather Leitz and Tanya (LNU}.

They all entered a storage room in the kitchen and Granillo barricaded the door, and laid on the fioor wi!h
his feet against the door. On two occasions, person{s} unk tried to get in the door. but he was able to hold It
ad. While in the storage room, on at least 2 occasions he heard someone enter a walk in frig in the
",IChen. He heard voices in the kitchen, and described them being in normal tones, but could not
understand what was being said. He thought he heard walkie-talkies during this time.

While in the storage room, a 911 can was made and the occupants of the room talked with a dispatcher
identified as Heather Leitz's father. They remained in the storage room from 1130 untfI1400, at which time
SW AT officers broke into the room and escorted them from the school via the teachers

NVESTIGATJON:
In 5/4/99 Investigator Reker and I met with Laura Green at her residence, reference the Columbine
3hootJng. Jexplained to Laura why we were there talking to her today. I asked Laura if she was In the
cafeteria at the time of the shooting and she said "Yes" she was. At this time I showed her a sketch of the
cafeteria and asked Laura to circle the area where she had been silling. Laura circled table "KK" and
placed an "x" where she was silting. I asked Laura to tall me what happened that day when she was in the
cafeteria. Laure said that she was sitting at the tabie and saw Mr. Sanders run by telling everyone to get
down underneath the tables. Laura said she then heard a gunshot. Laura said everyone stayed under the
tables for a short time and then started running up the stairwav. I asked Laura if she knew where the
gu -ots were coming from and she said she believed they were coming from outside by the cafeteria
winuow. Laura said when they ran up the stairs, they went to the choir room. They stayed there for a short
time and then she and approximately 60 other stucents went into the choir office. Laura said that while in
the choir office. various students barricaded themselves in there by putting filing cabinets and desks by the
door so no one could get in. Laura said someone tumec off tha lights to make nlook like no one was there.
I asked Laura how long she was in that office and she said approximately 4 hours until a SWAT team came
and opened the doer to get them out. I asked Laura if she heard any other gunshots while In the choir office
and she said yes, she heard "heavy gunshots' and felt possibly one or twc explosions through the floering
of the schooi, I asked Laura how she exited the building once the SWAT team was there and She said they
went through the auditorium to the stage and out the back doer towards the cafeteria and then up the stairs
and outside.

i asked Laura if she se« any of the shooters and she said no, she did not. I asked Laura what time she was
in the cafeteria. and she said approximately 11 :00 a.rn. I asked Laura if she saw any duffel bags in the
cafeteria when she was there and she said, "no". I asked If she saw anyone carrying in large duffel bags
and she again said "no". I asked Laura if she saw Eric or Dylan on Monday or Tuesday of that week and
she said no, she did not. i asked Laura if she left any of her property in the cafeteria and she said she did
leave an Eddie Bauer purple backpack containing her school books and papers. I asked Laura if she had
heard any rumors regarding any other suspects, bombs or guns which were involved. Laura said thaI she
remembers talking to a girl in her church, who said she saw a shooter dressed In a white shirt. I asked
Laura what the girl's name is and she said Nicole Janda. I asked Laura what she was wearing on the day
of' shooting and she said she had on a green skirt and blue sweater.

According to: GRfE~, lots of kids Started screaming and running Into the cafeteria. He then beard gunfire
which appearedto be coming from outside GR.EE~ and his friends took cover underthe tabies for a short
period of time GREEN and severalothers then startedrunningfer me stairs but they heard gunfire so they
turned and ran intothe office tocared in the kitchen There wereapproximately 18 people bidingin the
office when SWAT team members located me: groupand escortedthemout of the building two hours after
the attack began GREEN Stated he did not see any backpacks or bags otherthan the ones that were with

Richard Green provided the following information aboutthe ColumbineHighScbcol incident, which

• Rich stated thathe left choir class at the I I 10 a.m. bell and went straight to the cafeteria He stated
that the choir room is upstairs nearthe Library He stated that he was with Paul Andrews (979-1732)
and Brett Kcstalnick (973-2199) when he walked down the stairsand into the cafeteria. He stated that

was in the kitchen for about 5 or 10 minutes
