SOLEMNITY OF THE FEAST OF PENTECOST As the 50 days of celebrating Christs Resurrection comes to a close today, another new beginning bursts forth powerfully into our lives: the coming of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost recalls and makes present in our lives the advent of the Spirit, which empowered the followers of Christ to proclaim the Gospel message and carry it throughout the world. Reminiscent of the fusion of tongues at the tower of Babel, the Spirit restores Gods order at Pentecost by empowering the Apostles to communicate the Good News of Gods salvation to all without the hindrance of language barriers. Truly, the Spirit demonstrates Gods power to teach and communicate to all. Pentecost invites us to consider the movement of the Spirit in our own lives as well: in Baptism and Confirmation we have welcomed the Spirit, who continues to vivify the Christian life, thus enabling us to proclaim the Good News today.

Spirituality in and through the special celebrations of the next few weeks. As Matthew Kelly articulates these last three pillars #5 Fasting, # 6. Spiritual Reading, and # 7. The Rosary. This week we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost - the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles - the reality that formed the new Church - Jesus Christ promised the Holy Spirit. The primary purpose of the Holy Spirit is to act as an advocate on our behalf. Stirring up in each of us the gifts of Baptism. Fasting, the fifth pillar of Catholic spirituality, draws from a deep awareness of who we are in Christ. Fasting is never an end unto itself but rather is to be seen as a means to an end - a sacrifice for a greater good - a discipline that assists us to know what we really need. May we pray for the Holy Spirits power to assist us as we strive to become the best version of ourselves. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU I would like to thank the many couples from our parish community who came forward on Wednesday past to renew their marriage vows.
