Key Lesson Elements What is the Teacher Doing? What are the Students Doing?
Do Now (3-5 minutes): Tell students that every day we have been practicing writing our names. Tell students that it is important that we are able to write our names. We will have to know how to identify and write our names in every class in this school. Being able to write our name is an important skill that we need to know in order to be successful in school and everywhere else.

STEP 5
State Lesson Objective & Lesson Agenda SWBAT identify and write their first and last names.

STEP 6
I Do Input (1-2 Key teaching points): Check for Understanding:

Annette day(5 minutes) Demonstrate to students how you write your name using a sentence strip on the easel. Think aloud as you demonstrate where to start (from left to right). Tell students where they can look for support if they forget how to spell their names (name strips in their seat sacks). Give students examples of common wrong ways of writing their names like writing above or below the solid lines, not making letter stems long enough, or not beginning their name with an uppercase letter. Trace your (teachers) name on the sentence strip. Then trace some incorrect ways of writing your name. Ask students to share out why those examples are incorrect. Ask students to consider these things as they will write their own names today! Kelsey day TSW complete a concept map about all the information they know about name writing. STEP 7
