Awakening a Love for Christ in the Heart of Richmond
May 19, 2013 Pentecost Sunday 10:55 a.m.
O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. Many: Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. One: These all look to You, to give them their food in due season. Many: When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open your hand, they are filled with good things. One: When You hide your face, they are dismayed; when You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. Many: When You send forth Your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the ground. All: I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty and everlasting God, You are the Giver of Life and the Author of all blessing. Yet we confess that we turn from You and pursue life and blessing apart from Your Spirit. We seek first our own welfare and security, rather than Your kingdom and its righteousness; We trust in the false promise of material prosperity, rather than in the riches of Your all-sufficient grace; We strive for the marks of human accomplishment, rather than turn over our lives to You and be used in humble service to others. Have mercy on us, O LORD, and forgive us our sins. Convict us of our hopelessness apart from You. Remind us that by Your Spirit alone are we fed, guided, comforted, provided for, and led forth upon paths of righteousness. Increase our ardor for You, and our devotion to Your Spirit, That we may daily grow in faith, hope, and joy, and witness to all the world the saving grace of Your love, made flesh, and given freely to all, in Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in whose sweet and glorious name we pray. Amen.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long. Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
