RESILIENT HARDWOOD FLOORING SYSTEM LAID ONTO SPRINGBOK SEMI-SPRUNG BATTENS

Concrete Springbok Batten

Boen ArenaSport
INTRODUCTION BOEN manufactures and distributes a range of hardwood flooring systems including hardwood strip, boards and wood block in a variety of finishes. All hardwoods used are taken from managed sources. THE SYSTEM ArenaSport is a factory finished composite engineered board incorporating a 4mm hardwood wear layer. Kiln dried T&G end matched and featuring Connex process, laid onto Springbok semi-sprung battens and the data sheet refers to the various component parts. Alternative use of the Springbok BATTEN can be found in the BOEN Precisionaire System data sheet. APPLICATION BOEN ArenaSport is ideally suited for use as activity flooring in Sports Halls, Squash Courts, Dance Floors and Recreation Halls. Also widely used in Village Halls and Community Centres as well as School Halls and Gymnasiums. AUTHORITY All flooring conforms to BS 8201: 1987. The Springbok understructure is a registered trade mark (No. 771836). Springbok ArenaSport is tested to and complies with BS 7044 Part 2: 1990. SPECIES BOEN ArenaSport is available in Beech, Maple and Oak. BOARD DIMENSIONS 23 MM X 139 MM X 2200 MM length. 6 boards per pack (1.83m2). BATTEN DIMENSIONS AND APPLICATION Springbok battens are supplied 46 mm x 48 mm x 1800 mm. 16 battens per bundle. WEIGHT The average weight of the system is approximately 16kg/m2. COMPOSITION AND MANUFACTURE The understructure is loose laid directly onto concrete or a sand and cement screed. Each of the preservative treated softwood battens is laid in accordance with BS8210: 1987. Prefinished, tongued and grooved hardwood boards are secrete-fixed (by nails) at right angles to the direction of the softwood support battens. It is important that the header joint of each board is supported on top of a springbok batten. An expansion gap is left at the perimeter of the floor to allow for changes in temperature and humidity.

INSULATION The resilient rubber pads effectively reduce impact sound, which can be further reduced by isolating the floors from the walls and skirting. RESILIENCE The rubber pads provide calculated RESILIENCE designed to minimise player fatigue and reduce physiological damage caused by impact The unique construction of the pads, includes a specially formulated rubber which will not significantly harden or deteriorate over the life of the floor. Alternating air cells are incorporated into the design which permit encapsulated air to be expelled through perimeter voids when the pad is compressed. The controlled inhalation and expulsion of air provides the critical shock absorption qualities of the floor. Springbok also provides a true ball response. PERFORMANCE STRENGTH In accordance with BS 6399: Part I: 1984, the floor, when using 23 mm ArenaSport will safely support distributed loads of 5.0kn/m2 and is appropriate for general purpose sports and similar multi-use halls. Floors are normally designed to meet specific installation requirements and where special considerations, such as mobile tiered seating are required, BOEN should be consulted to assist with the design. FIRE No special precautions are normally required.

SITE WORK The battens are loose laid onto the concrete base, which should incorporate a damp proof and water vapour proof membrane to prevent moisture penetration common to modern deep concrete slab construction. The sub floor should achieve 2 mm in 2 meters in any direction. SITE CONDITIONS Stabilised air temperature not less than 130C. Moisture content of walls not more than 8%. Moisture content of floors not more than 6%. Relative humidity within the range 40% to 60%. For more detailed site and installation instructions see separate data sheet. MAINTENANCE Once the floor is installed, there should be no requirements for adjustment. The understructure requires no maintenance. The hardwood can be sanded and resealed from time to time.

SUPPLY Material is usually available direct from stock and delivery to site is normally within 4 days from receipt of order. A continuous programme of technical development in the design of our flooring systems may result in modification and improvements. The Company reserves the right to supply products that may differ slightly from those described in this leaflet. ORDERING From a floor plan, BOEN will be able to provide the full system. Please select the timber species and the finish you require, prior to order. WARRANTY The floor is warranted against defects caused by faulty materials used within the system. INSTALLATION this should be undertaken by preferred hardwood contractors whose names can be supplied by BOEN upon request. SPECIFICATION BOEN ArenaSport laid onto Springbok semi-sprung battens. Treated softwood understructure mm* deep x 50 mm wide battens, incorporating the BOEN elastomeric, profiled cellular 40 shore hardness 10 mm rubber pad. Battens to be set at 367 mm centres and each unit staggered as specified by the manufacturer. All battens are laid onto a dry and prepared sub-floor, which complies with BS8201: Part 1: 1986. Overlay the battens with BOEN ArenaSport 23 mm x 139 mm x 2200 length leaving the appropriate perimeter expansion gap, as recommended by the manufacturer. It is important that the header joint of each board is supported on top of a Springbok batten. For ground floor installations, BOEN recommends that vapour barrier is laid to the sub floor surface prior to installation.
