To read and explore ideas in Skellig by David Almond To present some of these ideas and own views to the rest of the class

Read the novel aloud as a group in the form of shared reading. Pupils to read one page aloud per lesson Pupils to produce a mini book report on the novel which will be displayed in class Pupils to act out dialogue from various sections of the novel (pair work). Bingo! Activity to introduce pupils to difficult words from the text. Home Education Listening and Speaking Focus on use of adjectives and nouns in a given extract to set the scene (chapter 2). Descriptions of Skellig close reading of language, adjectives, nouns, verbs and similes.

Copies of novel Detailed writing frame for pupils to prepare an indepth and personal book report Study booklet of activities for discussing and writing issues raised in the novel.

Individual help given to all (teacher). Language I hate the snake! A Modern Miser Speaking and Listening To prepare and deliver a presentation on a key theme. To talk confidently and fluently in a group and whole class discussion. Pupils will research a theme and will deliver a 5 minute presentation on their subject. They will also have 5 minutes to answer questions. Review of situations when we use capital letters, and pupils practice by putting capital letters into a text as appropriate.
