1. PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is for supervision of all survey works and to ensure that proper quality control is exercised at site. 2. SCOPE This procedure covers fixing of benchmark, transferring co-ordinate and reduce levels. 3. REFERENCE All works related to survey will conform to detailed route survey of Vol-IIA. Chapter 9 4. METHOD These surveys shall carry out the complete topographical survey for entire pipe line route and the transverse profiles (Strip survey) at regular intervals (30m for pipe line routing) and shall produce the complete ground plan, longitudinal profiles and strip plans in accordance with the directions of the Engineer In charge and as detailed in this specifications Based on the available data, it is required to provide the location of change points (CP). All instruments and measuring and recording techniques shall be to an approved standard. All levels shall be reduced to the benchmark given in the NIT (Vol. II-B).

The CP points shall be made from timber approximately 50mm round / square and 600mm in length. A nail/ marking shall be used on the top face of the peg to accurately locate the point of intersection between the two lengths of line. The peg shall be firmly grouted / hammered and surrounded by concrete to prevent its movement or removal. The system of marking and identifying CP point pegs by paint, stones, rods etc. shall be used. In agricultural areas the tops of all pegs shall be driven beneath ground level by at least 50mm and the surrounding soil removed so that the pegs remain visible. All temporary or disturbed pegs, which are inaccurate or redundant, shall be removed during or immediately after line profile survey. Pegs shall be installed where the axis of the crosses roads, fences, power or telecommunication lines, rivers and other natural features and at intervals of not less than 100m along the route axis. The horizontal and vertical coordinates of all pegs shall be recorded and shown on topographical drawings. The accuracy with which topographical survey data shall be measured, recorded and reproduced shall comply with the following: The transverse profiles (Strip survey) shall be carried out at every 5meter interval up to 15 mtr on either side of the centre line of pipe. Additional spot levels shall be taken to determine, wherever applicable, the extent of the following: Pavements, kerbs, channels, and centerlines of roads at (specified) intervals between cross-section detailed plans & spot levels to be indicated Railway lines No. Of lines & total plan widths shall be indicated. Top and bottom of embankments

Ditches/Ponds, out falls, streams, culverts, nallah and drains, including bank and bed/invert levels widths shall be indicated Water levels, with date of survey, of rivers, streams, watercourses, canals, ponds, lakes, nallah reservoirs etc., and flood water levels. Storm water gullies, manholes, inspection covers, ducts and conduits Heights of overhead cables & transmission lines. Other features of interest

5. Accuracy of Survey Readings The accuracy of Vertical ground survey spot level readings on hard surfaces shall be accurate to 10 mm, and elsewhere to 50 mm unless specified otherwise. 6. Ground Line Profile: The ground line profile shall show the ground section along the centreline for pipeline route and at regular intervals for plant. This should include total pipeline route, chainages, all change points with co-ordinates, and features along the pipeline such

as buildings, water courses (ponds, rivers, canals, nallah, streams etc) hillocks, culverts, bridges, earthen embankments, trees, roads (national/state highways, village roads etc), power and telecommunication lines, Railway line crossings, existing pipelines, lighting columns, fences, orchards etc. If the overall layout is not possible in one drawing then the drawings can be made more than one number. The overlap between drawings shall be two spans or at least 60m, which ever is greater along with coordinates for match points. X, Y and Z co-ordinate of all points shall be measured and marked in the drawing. 7. Strip Plans:

Strip plans and longitudinal sections shall be prepared for the complete length of pipeline in scales, preferably - horizontal scale of 1:500 and 1:50 in vertical. The strip plan width shall be equal to the corridor width and 15m on either side of the pipe centre line. 8. Longitudinal Profiles: The Longitudinal line profile shall show the following: (a) Natural ground levels (b) Change points (c) Chainage from the start point 9.
