Use
The growing use of radiant heating and/or cooling systems in the field of the domestic installation is without any doubt connected to the high comfort performances that they are able to offer the end user. The mixed system is the most popular. It means that in the same living unit, you install heat sources supplied with water at a high temperature (towel rails, radiators) and circuits with radiant panels to be supplied with water at low temperature. The complicated pipework and controls associated with this type of system have encouraged Giacomini to develop the new R559 pre-assembled and pre-wired manifolds for mixed systems. These products differ from products already on the market, because of their simplicity, versatility and practicality. Particular attention during the planning and development of the hydraulic and electronic components of the R559 manifold has created a system with ease of installation, but still able to control complicated mixed systems, in which the radiant panel section can also be used for summer cooling. Inside the R559 manifolds all hydraulic components are pre-assembled; from an electric and electronic point of view, the circulator, the motor (K280) for the mixing valve (R298), the transformer, the sensor (K363P) for the control of the flow temperature and the eventual sensor K363P for the control of the return temperature are pre-wired to the unit I/O KPM20. Only the electrical actuators R478X105 or R473X105 (to be ordered separately), thermostats K481B, and the eventual sensor K365P for determining the external temperature, when weather compensation is required, need to be connected. If you wish to use the system for summer cooling, also the dew point sensor K366A must be pre-wired.

Available versions
The R559 is available in 3 versions: R559A, R559B and R559C with different types of primary regulation: - R559A: fixed point regulation with modifiable set In this case the flow temperature is regulated by means of a PI regulator (proportional/integral); the value of the desired temperature can be set by rotating the potentiometer positioned on the frontend of the KPM20 I/O unit according to the scale 20...80C (heating conduction) or 15...30C (cooling conduction). - R559B: regulation with weather compensation In this case the flow temperature is regulated by means of a PI regulator, but the value desired changes automatically according to a pre-configured compensation curve. In case of heating and cooling systems, the I/O KPM20 unit uses differential compensation curves. The temperature value defined by means of the rotating potentiometer, positioned on the frontend of the of the KPM20 I/O unit in this case takes on the meaning of maximum flow temperature to the more severe external conditions. - R559C: regulation with weather compensation and monitoring of the thermal jump This regulation is similar to the previous, but when the thermal jump is higher than a pre-configured value (6C per default), the weather compensation is excluded and the desired flow temperature corresponds to the maximum admitted value. This kind of regulation is possible only when there is a KM20X controller in the system, to which the K365P sensor of external temperature is connected and the supervision condition is working. In this configuration, the parameters of weather compensation shall be defined by means of the KD200 display Unit. All versions of the R559 manifold are equipped with the KPM20 I/O unit, that allows a rapid connection to electrical actuators R478X105 or R473X105 (24V), without the use of auxiliary devices such as distribution cabinets and/or interface relay. In addition, in the R559 manifold the sensor manages automatically the intervention of the circulator and the operation of the K280 actuator for the control of the mixing valve.

Working
The KPM20 I/O unit of the R559 manifolds is the basic element for the control of the manifold itself, independently from the kind of regulation that you wish to carry out. At the end of the installation, the electric and electronical components, that are fundamental for the functioning of the manifold itself are wired. They are: Electrical actuators (R478 N.O. or R473 N.C. 24V) dedicated to the control of the circuits of the panel system; Wilo circulator with manual speed selector; K280 motor for the control of the mixing group; Sensor for the control of the water flow temperature mixed for the panel system; KP20 transformer For the control of the room temperature, in rooms where the radiant system is installed, one or more K481B ambient thermostats must be connected via bus to the KPM20 I/O unit. If the cooling option is expected, you shall provide for at least one K366A dew point sensor.

Hydraulic working
The R259T (1) I and O ball valves are the connection points to the primary circuit: the fluid coming directly from the boiler enters into the R559 via the valve I, whilst the return to the primary is via valve O. The R53SM modular manifold (DN32x18), A and B with regulation lockshield with mechanical memory, connect to the heat sources supplied with hot temperature (towel rails, radiators): the upper A manifold is the flow manifold, the lower B is the return. On the R298 mixing valve, the K280 (24 V) motor is mounted and it is operated from the KPM20 I/O unit, in order to provide the correct mixing according to the necessary regulation. When the fluid coming back from panel system arrives to the lower R manifold, a small part of it goes towards the D lockshield and so to the return primary circuit, whilst the greater part is drawn in the P pump (Wilo RS25) and reintroduced in the system, mixed with the hot temperature fluid coming from the I valve by the M flow manifold. According to the necessary regulation condition and the temperature detected from the K363P sensor placed on T point, the KPM20 I/O unit will send to the K280 motor signal of modulation of the R298 mixing valve, with input in the group of a water quantitative from the primary circuit depending from the thermal load and from the t detected and sufficient to keep the flow temperature at the necessary conditions. In order to avoid any problem caused by an undesired increase of the temperature of the secondary, due to accidental causes, the KPM20 I/O unit has a safety function that drives in bypass the mixing group (by excluding therefore the primary) and at the same time, it deactivate the circulator, if it receives a signal of over-temperature from the sensor placed in the T point. There is no differential valve into the R559 because the KPM20 I/O unit is able to deactivate the circulator, if all circuits dedicated to radiant panel are closed, thus avoiding useless overpressures inside the secondary circuit.

Group supply
The supply of the R559 can be effected through 1 female connections of the R259T valve with tail piece. As illustrated in the above scheme, the flow is to be connected to the upper valve and the return to the lower valve.

Circuits connection
All the connections for the circuits use Giacomini connection base 18. By following the table here below, you will choose the suitable adaptor according to the adopted piping:

The connection of the low temperature circuits shall be carried out by respecting scrupulously the indications reported on the project documentation.

Flow schemes Ordinary situation


In order to avoid backflow, the R559 system is fitted with two non-return valves placed in points W and J.

This situation happens when the flow temperature for the panel system has reached the set-.oint value, therefore the non-return valve, placed in J position, doesnt allow to the circulation pump of the panel system to draw in from the return of the primary by D lockshield.

This situation happens when the flow temperature for the panel system has not reached the setpoint value, therefore it is necessary to take water from the primary. In this case the non-return valve, placed in W position, guarantees that the circulation pump of the panel system really draw in from the flow of the primary.

Electrical supply
For the electrical supply of the R559 group it is sufficient to connect the KP20 transformer to 230V ~ 50 Hz. The internal electrical part is pre-wired except for the electrical actuator (24V) (order separately) that are installed only when loading and balancing operations of the system are completed.

Regulation of the room temperature


In order to effect the regulation of the room temperature, the R559 group shall be used in combination with or more K481B thermostats. The K481B thermostat is able to drive indirectly the electrical actuators connected to the appropriate outlets of the KPM20 I/O unit. To this unit, up to 8 K481B thermostats can be connected by means of bus wiring; in this way, in a R559 group the maximum number of low temperature circuits that can be controlled independently is equal to 8. The connection between K481B thermostats and KPM20 I/O unit is effected by means of a bus cable with 4 conductors. In Giacoklima system, the connection bus between KPM20 and K481B thermostats represents the secondary bus.

The K481B thermostat detects the temperature of room where it is installed and it compares it constantly with the desired temperature defined on it. If the measured temperature differs from the one desired, it forwards a request to the KPM20 I/O unit, by means of the bus. The KPM20 I/O unit elaborates the request and it puts it in the corresponding action according to the type of electrical actuators used: if R478 (N.O.) electrical actuators are used, the demand of flow determines the absence of supply of themselves (from the hydraulic point of view, the actuators are open); if R473 (N.C.) electrical actuators are used, the demand of flow determines the supply of the heads (actuators open, from the hydraulic point of view). If a K481B thermostats demands flow by starting from actuators all hydraulically closed, the KPM20 I/O unit starts the circulator with about 3 minutes delay, by allowing the interested actuator to completely open the valve and avoid that the circulator pushes on hydraulically closed circuits. At the closing of the last actuator, the KPM20 I/O unit deactivates automatically the circulator.

Recall of the night attenuation


The NIGHT functioning introduces an attenuation as to the desired temperature value in COMFORT condition; this attenuation determines in the controlled room a decrease of the desired temperature in the winter conduction way (heating) or an increase in the summer conduction way (cooling). In a Giacoklima system including a R559, the recall for the NIGHT attenuation can be effected: - locally on each K481B thermostat. In order to recall the NIGHT attenuation, it is necessary to press repeatedly the M push button positioned on the frontal of the thermostat up to the activation of the NIGHT symbol on the display. The attenuation so recalled has effect only on the circuits driven by the subject thermostat. This recall is possible only if in the installation a KM20X controller is not connected; - centrally by means of the KPM20 I/O unit. The KPM20 I/O unit gives the inlet CHRONO SETBACK (free contact, screw-drivers 15 and 16) dedicated to the connection of a device (for example a switch clock) for the recall of the NIGHT attenuation. In this way, for each K481B thermostat connected to the KPM20 I/O unit by means of secondary bus, it is possible to recall centrally and automatically the NIGHT temperature attenuation at a fixed time, without manual intervention on each thermostat. This recall is possible only if in the installation a controller KM20X is not connected. - centrally by means of the KM20X. In Giacoklima systems where the use of a KM20X controller is expected (necessary if you use R559C version of the pre-assembled group, optional for the other versions), a centralized and automatic recall of the NIGHT attenuation is possible, at a time fixed by means of a temporised program (CHRONO) that is on the controller itself. Also in this case, the centralised recall avoids to intervene manually on each thermostat. The link between the KM20X controller and the KPM20 I/O unit is carried out by means of bus cable with 4 conductors; in the Giacoklima system, the bus connection between KPM20 I/O unit and the KM20x controller represents the primary bus. With the controller, the input of KPM20 dedicated to the recall of the NIGHT attenuation is no more available.

Recall of stand-by attenuation


The STAND-BY functioning introduces an attenuation as regards to the desired temperature value in COMFORT condition; this attenuation determines in the controlled ambient a decrease of the desired temperature, in the condition of the winter conduction (heating) or an increase in the condition of summer conduction (cooling). In a Giacoklima system, including a R559, the recall of the STAND-BY attenuation can be effected: - locally on each K481B thermostat. In order to recall the STAND-BY attenuation, it is necessary to repeatedly press on M pushbutton placed on the frontal of the thermostat, up to the starting up on the display of the relative symbol. The so recalled attenuation has effect only on the circuits controlled by the subject thermostat; - centrally by means of the KM20x controller. In Giacoklima systems, where the use of a KM20x controller is provided for (necessary if you use version R559C of the pre-assembled group, optional for the other versions) a centralized and automatic recall of the STAND-BY attenuation at a prefixed time is possible, by means of a temporised program (CHRONO) of the controller itself. In this case, the centralised and temporised recall avoids to intervene manually on each thermostat.

Recall of the OFF functioning


The OFF functioning forbids the flow request coming from the thermostat, independently from the value of the desired temperature, by keeping the anti freeze protection working.

Switching of the condition of summer/winter conduction


On Giacoklima systems, which can effect either heating or cooling, the switching between SUMMER and WINTER conduction can be carried out: - centrally by means of the KPM20 I/O unit. The KPM20 I/O unit gives the WINTER SUMMER input (free contact, binding-screws 17 and 18) dedicated to the connection of a device (for example a manual switch) for the SUMMER/WINTER switching. In this way, for each K481B thermostat connected to KPM20 I/O unit by means of secondary bus, it is possible to centrally switch the conduction condition of the system without manual intervention on each thermostat; - centrally by means of the KM20X. In Giacoklima systems, where the use of a KM202 controller is expected, a centralized commutation of the conduction way is possible by using a KD200 display unit directly connected to the KM202 controller. With the controller, the inlet of the KPM20, dedicated to the summer/winter commutation is no more available. In this case too, the centralized commutation avoids the manual intervention on each thermostat. Functioning way

8 red LED (1-8) indicate the state of the controlled electrical actuators. The starting of a LES means that the corresponding actuator is supplied and moreover: - for R478 (N.O.) actuators, the lighted LED indicates that there is no flow in the corresponding circuit; - for R473 (N.C.) actuators, the lighted LED indicates flow in the corresponding circuit. 1 red LED (9) when lightened indicates that the WINTER conduction condition is working. 1 orange LED (10) when lightened indicates that the SUMMER conduction condition is working. 1 red LED (11) when lightened indicates detection of condensate risk. 1 orange LED (12) indicates: - if it flashes when lightened, the activation of a CHRONO program (only with a KM20x controller connected on the primary bus); - if it is off, the KPM20 is working in stand alone mode (without primary bus and KM20x controller). - If lightened, the activation of the NIGHT attenuation (without primary bus and KM20x controller). 1 green LED (13) when lightened, indicates that the circulator is working. 1 red LED (14) when lightened, indicates that the delivery temperature sensor has activated an alarm of over- or undertemperature.

Location
Considering the space cabinet and the need of keeping everything to be easily inspected, it is opportune to install R559 group in an appropriate technical opening or in a cupboard room. The wall suitable for the location of the cabinet, shall be opportunely evaluated according to the depth (min 150mm max 180mm) of the cabinet. After identification of the location, you shall provide for the positioning (on the left of the cabinet itself) of: No. 2 electrical coverings of 20 mm; No. 2 delivery and return piping of the thermo-vector fluid The cabinet is supplied with supports in order to make the installation easier. They raise it from the rough floor to the correct level of the pipes connecting to the manifold. Before proceeding with the laying of the cabinet, you shall remove the frontal cover and the relative support frame; while sealing the cabinet and finishing the wall (plastering and/or tiling) it is opportune to protect the group from eventual dirtiness, by using cardboard o a polystyrene plate (or the packaging). The frontal cover and the support frame shall be reinstalled only when the walls (plastering and/or tiling operations) will be finished.

The R559 pre-assembled group is characterised by the presence of a Wilo circulator, dedicated to the circuits of the panel system. Its a circulator with It 1 connections, 230V supplied with 3 speeds manual selector. The circulator installed on groups from R559.../4 up to R559.../8 is model RS25/6 (max. lift 6 m), whilst in groups from R559.../9 to R559.../12 the circulator is model RS25/7 (max. lift 7 m). Filling the panel system and start up


As for all manifolds dedicated to the radiant panel systems, before proceeding with the layer of the concrete to cover pipes, you shall fill the system and start up (as provided for by the UNI-EN 1264/4 standard, par. 4.3). To fill the system correctly:

1. Close the V ball valve (R252) placed on the upper end of the circulator;

2. Close the D lockshield with the appropriate Allen key (for ex. 6 mm);

3. Remove the K280 electrical actuator by operating on the fixing nut;

Due to these three easy operations, the secondary circuit will be isolated as regards to the primary. You can then proceed by filling the system as follows:

1. Check that the mechanical memories of the all lockshield valves placed on the M flow manifold of the secondary are completely open by using the appropriate R558 key;

2. Close all the lockshields on the M flow manifold of the secondary circuit by using the appropriate R558 Allen key (for ex. 5 mm)

3. Close manually all the lockshield valves on the R return manifold by using the appropriate handwheels;

4. Connect a standard rubber pipe to the U cock placed on the intermediate fitting of the R return manifold to allow loading;

5. Connect another rubber pipe to the Z cock placed on the intermediate fitting of the M flow manifold to allow discharging.

Fill the first circuit, by opening the corresponding lockshield (on M flow manifold) and valve (on R return manifold). When all air is discharged, close the circuit by operating on the corresponding valve and lockshield. After this proceed with the next circuit and continue until the last circuit is filled. Open the V (R252) ball valve, placed on the upper end of circulator in order to fill the manifolds and discharge all air from them. Finally its possible to open all the deliveries and the returns in order to start up the system at the values provided by the UNI-EN 1264/4, par. 4.3 (... twice the working pressure, with a minimum of 6 bar...) by operating for example with a hand pump. You can afterwards proceed with the layer of the screed. The K280 actuator and the D lockshield valve can be brought back to the initial conditions only when the radiators, towel dryers etc, have been correctly installed and discharged; in this way you will be sure that no air bubble could remain in the circuits. The balancing of the circuits of low temperature shall be effected only at the system start up, by respecting scrupulously the indications reported on the project documentation.

Filling the radiators and start up
The filling and start up steam of the circuits dedicated to heat sources (radiators, towel dryers) can be carried out, for example, during the testing step of the flow pipes. The definitive filling could be carried out through boiler cock, by discharging directly through the radiators. Also in this case, some preliminary actions shall be effected:

Check, by using the appropriate R558 key, that the mechanical memories of the all lockshield valves placed on the A flow manifold and the B return manifold are completely open;

Close all the lockshields on the A flow manifold and the B return manifold by using the appropriate R558 key (for example 5mm Allen key)

To fill the system correctly: Open the corresponding lockshield valve on the A delivery manifold. When you are sure that the air has been discharged from each manifold, open the lockshield valve on the B return manifold; in this way you can observe a progressive increase of the pressure through the manometer positioned on the boiler. When the value of 1,5 bar has been exceed, close completely the lockshiedl valves positioned on A delivery and B return manifolds of the just charged circuit. This two last operations shall be carried out systematically for each of the three hot temperature circuits. Only when you have completed this important phase, you can carry out the start of the low temperature section, by installing the K280 actuator on the R298 mixing valve and by completely opening the D lockshiedl valve.

R559 Pre-assembled and pre-wired manifolds for mixed systems


Order directions
With the KPM20 I/O unit, you can exclusively use 24V electrical actuators model R478X105 (N.O.) or R473X105 (N.C.), with connection cable having 1m length. Such actuators shall be ordered separately because they are not included in the supply of the R559 group. In combination with KPM20 I/O unit, you can exclusively use the K481B thermostats, connected to the regulator by means of a bus cable with 4 conductors. K481B thermostats shall be ordered separately. If also the cooling functioning is expected, it is possible to parallel connect up to a maximum of 4 K366A dew point sensor to the KPM20 I/O unit, to be separately ordered. The R559C version requires the separate order of no. 1 KM20X controller.
