Modular Vegetation System

Simple, sustainable, urban greening

Pocket Habitat is made from recycled polypropylene fibres to form a sculptured, engineered habitat that is specifically designed to support vegetation growth and variety. The pockets are then tessellated to form a mosaic of habitats which adds an aesthetic to the space and provides an ideal environment for biodiversity to flourish. What is a Pocket Habitat? Pocket Habitat is a unique modular vegetation system designed to promote biodiversity in urban areas. Pocket Habitat can be used on commercial and domestic roofs, terraces and balconies, on brownfield sites set aside for future development, as a enhancement to schools and public places and as a solution for habitat creation on temporary sites. The Pocket Habitat has been designed to be moved as needs dictate. As habitat and diversity develop, Pocket Habitat retains its value wherever it is. Its unique, clean and portable design makes it the solution for retrofit, new build and temporary installations The function and form of Pocket Habitat is unique in many ways. It has been designed to create sheltered and shaded areas within each pocket and with its mounded substrates, allows for the establishment of a much wider range of species. When a series of pockets are tessellated they create a sculptured form providing an instant mix of shape, colour and texture. Benefits {{Easy carry-in-one-hand installation of 35 m2 per hour, saves on-site time and costs {{Superior to roll-out green roofs as suitable for temporary sites and transfer from building footprint to roof level {{Easy installation retro-fitting onto existing roofs {{Optimum rates of wildflower seed germination, plant survival and habitat sustainability {{Overcomes the issue of visually unattractive brown roofs to stakeholders and investors {{Proven to sustain increased biodiversity of flora and fauna over roll-out green roofs {{Pocket Habitat material is 100% recyclable and contribute to reducing landfill waste {{Reduces noise, improves air quality and well-being via human interaction . . . and more! {{Retains 60% of heavy rainfall event, 40% annual rainfall {{Made from recycled materials {{Over 80% coverage combats Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE) {{Creates biodiverse habitats that are speciesrich, sustainable and valuable to the local ecology Plants & Wildlife Standard substrate blends used with the same seed mix creates a varied vegetation. INSTALLATION
Pocket Habitat is supplied empty through a fine network of distributors, dealers and specialized garden centers. For projects and special customers, Pocket Habitat can be pre-filled with substrate and seeds. In that case the following instructions apply: Place the Pocket Habitat and pull string to open, exposing the substrate and wildflower seed.

Rainwater will germinate the wildflower seed.

The Pocket Habitats are tied together during installation to form a continuous vegetated surface. Over time a valuable habitat is established. Because each Pocket Habitat only weighs 20 kg, they are ideally suited to being manually handled which speeds up installation and makes retrofitting via existing buildings simple and effective. Once opened, the Pockets are nestled together to form a regular pattern. Each unit is tied to its neighbour and has an intimate contact on all sides to ensure there are 3 (small) and 2.5 (large) pockets per m2. Each row should be lined up using a string line or similar, once they are all in position, seeding or planting can be carried out.
