Every 15 Minutes at CRHS

BY K CEY COLLINS
Sta Writer

At the end of every school year, some seniors of Canyon Ridge experience death. Every 15 Minutes hit our school on April 24, 2013, and left a long lasting effect on everyone here, especially the 2013 seniors. Every 15 minutes is a program that shows how drunk driving can and does affect everyone. In the event, someone is selected in their class every 15 minutes and killed due to a drunk driving incident. The obituary made by the students parents is read by Officer Triner to the class and then the student leaves. Afterwards the dead student is given a black robe and their face is done with make-up to make them

look like a skeleton. They still attend class with their friends throughout the day, but they are not allowed to speak unless its to another dead person or to a teacher. This helps to make the event more serious, as if someones friend actually died, they wouldnt be able to still talk to them in class. This program was made in order to inform students of what drunk driving can do to friends and also show what it would be like without them. It is no secret that some students drink despite that they are not of age. Teenagers sometimes feel that all of their choices are smart ones, when they may not be. It is very important that students learn about how real drunk driving is. A lot of people think It wont affect me but

it can. It affects everyone as friends, family, and classmates of students can be affected by this. Canyon Ridge also got a presentation from the fire and police departments as well as paramedics at the end of the day. The presentation was on how they deal with a drunk driving incidents. Seniors as well as parents got to see the presentation in the Canyon Ridge high school parking lot. Sixteen students were chosen to help with the presentation and also die in the process. Teens really need to pay attention on drunk driving, since it seems to be the leading cause of death in teen drivers. With 15.1 percent of all males 12 and older to drive under the influence and 7.9 percent of

all females 12 and older to drive under the influence, it may seem very unlikely for your friend to be a part of the accident but this percentage is over the entire world. And one third of all convicted drunk drivers are repeated offenders. Remember what the Idaho Department of Transportation says about driving drunk, Drive sober, or get pulled over. And if someone plans on driving at any time; summer, winter, night, or even day, and they have been drinking, either find a ride from somebody sober or wait until they have sobered up themselves, remember only time can sober a person up, not exercising, coffee, nor a cold shower will work.

Anyone who is everyone is excited when theyre released from the prison we call school. However, once out of school, many have nothing to do. So theyre summers are endless days of boredom and many visits to the public pool. So what is there better to do? Well, in actuality, Twin Falls and its surrounding communities have an abundance of activities that are perfect for summer fun. Around Twin Falls are great quantities of activities to do during the summer season. There are so many different places to swim in the Magic Valley area. Thousand Springs in Hagermen is a very popular location for friends who want to swim, but dont want to swim at the city pool on a hot summer day. The city pool is the typical smalltown public swimming hole and it can get beyond crazy during those long, hot summer days. Other than the occasional public pool at the YMCA in Twin Falls, out in Hagerman country is Miracle Hot Springs. Most teens tend to visit this natural hot spring at night with a throng of friends. There is of course the occasional birthday celebration where teens will rent out the large domes to stay the night and enjoy the summer nights. Another favorite is the Grand-Vu drive-in. However, its been said that Grand-Vu might just be closing its gates and shutting down this particular drive-in. The best food hangout of the summer is definitely Arctic Circle. Its like school lunch all over again at Arctic Circle. Students gather here for great lunch and the ever favorite fifty cent soft served ice cream cones. And yet, Arctic Circle isnt the only favorite summertime food hangout. Other popular places are Taco Bell, where students love to gather and share a fast-mexican style meal, and the new Chik-fil-A, the place where most of our students currently work. Although, Twins popular fast-food joints still arent the most favored summer hangout. Dierkes Lake (and Bass Lake) is the most popular place to hang during the summer. Students from all Twin Falls county schools attend this particular spot for one reason only: cool water! Dierkes Lake is a lake where students meet with friends to swim and enjoy the sun by the water. The most daring people trek out to the cliffs to free fall into the cool water of the lake; as well as being very reckless. The summer season is approximately three total months long for the students of Twin Falls so if schedules are open and plans are undecided, these handouts are the place to be for some fun in the sun. index
