INSTALLATION

CLASSIC IMPERIAL PUR

Code of Practice The installation of this product is covered by BS8203 Code of Practice for the Installation of Resilient Floorcoverings. The ambient temperature of the areas to be covered should be at least 18C 24 hours prior to, during, and after installation. Material must be allowed to acclimatise unrolled in the area in which it is to installed for a period of at least 24 hours. Rolls and boxes are clearly marked with a batch and/or roll sequence number and the product should be checked for match before laying. Note: Classic Imperial has a directional design. Subfloors Must be dry, smooth and flat. Please refer to separate SITES & SUBFLOORS data sheet. Adhesives Suitable adhesives include: Gerflor* Gertec, Gerfix E120 F.Ball & Co F.44,F.46,F74,F.81,F.83 Laybond L47, L80 Tremco Treadfast 105 & 108 Henkel Thomsit K188E & K188S * Please refer to separate GERFLOR ADHESIVES data sheet for usage information Laying Classic Imperial Sheet To minimise the number of joints sheet flooring should be laid down the length of the room where possible. After measuring and cutting the first piece of material, allow approx 1cm per metre up to a maximum of 10cm, as an overmeasure, place in position. Using a pair of scribers scribe the shape of the wall along length of floorcovering and cut. Place the sheet in position tight against the wall. A pencilled line is drawn on the subfloor along the length of the other side of the sheet, a second pencil line is drawn onto the material and the subfloor across the width of the sheet.Move the sheet until the overlap is fully on the floor. The distance between the two crosslines i.e on the subfloor and on the sheet, is now set on the scriber. Scribe a line on the floorcovering using the end wall as a guide, cut, then repeat at the other end. Corresponding sheets are cut to size in a similar manner. When seams are necessary, an overlap of approx 200mm is recommended. A line is marked onto the overlapping material, then, with a sharp trimming knife and a steel straight edge cut through both thicknesses to create a seam. To avoid damage to the subfloor

place a thin gauge steel straight edge under the material where the seam is to be cut. After laying the material must be rolled in both directions using a 68kg roller. All seams should be hot welded using matching weld rod. Welding Joints Before hot welding joints a period of at least 24 hours should be allowed for the adhesive to set. A hand grooving tool and straight edge are used to groove the butted edges of the seam to approximately two thirds thickness of the material. This will form a semi circular groove ready to receive the Gerflor 4mm welding rod. A mechanical grooving machine is advisable on large areas as the quality of the groove, in terms of depth and width, remains correct and constant. Seams are hot welded with a hot air weld gun set at a temperature to ensure fusion, using welding rod of a matching or contrasting shade as required. To ensure complete fusion of weld rod to floorcovering, the correct welding speed must be observed, (1-2 lin metres per minute). When the weld has cooled to room temperature, it should be trimmed off flush to the surface of the material using a trimming spatula. If trimming is carried out before the weld has cooled it will shrink below the surface. Laying Classic Imperial Tiles Careful planning and consideration is necessary if the desired overall effect is to be achieved. It is customary to start laying tiles from a central position. A chalk line should be struck halfway across the width and length of the area to be covered to determine the centre point. Once these two guide lines are struck it is recommended that a single row of tiles be laid without adhesive, widthwise and lengthwise to check both positioning and patterning. Apply adhesive according to the manufacturers instructions. Start laying tiles from central axis, place tiles into the adhesive, pressing firmly and evenly making sure not to trap air bubbles, proceed along and across centre lines working outwards. Tiles must be thoroughly rolled using a 68kg roller to ensure adhesion. Border tiles are now cut to size by placing them on the last square tile stuck and scribing them using a spare full tile placed against the wall as a template.
