TOPAIR is ALSTOMs flexible and well-proven product line focused on medium and large air-cooled turbogenerators. Over the last 10 years more than 500 ALSTOM air-cooled generators above 100 MW have been sold world-wide.

ALSTOM Turbogenerators The complete product range

ALSTOM offers a comprehensive range of turbogenerators from 40 to 1700 MW operating at 50 or 60 Hz for all applications, including Nuclear, Gas, Steam and Combined-Cycle power plants. From packaged air-cooled products to the large H2/H2O cooled, ALSTOM has the accumulated experience of more than 6400 units and 720,000 MW of references around the world.

As a direct result of our extensive accumulated experience in air-cooled technology, the TOPAIR product line achieves an availability rate of over 99.8%. The quality advantage ALSTOM customers benefit from a manufacturing experience of over 100 years, our quality programs allow us to proactively increase the reliability of our products. A sophisticated, world-wide factory network guarantees high quality standards.

Installing the rotor of the 240 MW TOPAIR 23 turbogenerator

Ongoing R&D efforts result in improved manufacturing technologies and processes. Laser cutting of core laminations, advanced varnishing technology as well as automatic stator bar and rotor coil manufacturing are just some of the advanced methods we use. The optimization of our engineering and factory processes has allowed us to realize extremely short delivery times. Typically, we can now deliver a 240 MW turbogenerator in less than one year.

Our test facility, in Switzerland, allows full load testing of gas turbines and generators in a live environment. By using this modern test center with a high-tech equipment, we are able to supply the most competitive solutions. By focusing on the future and continuing to make major R&D investments, we intend to maintain our historic position at the forefront of technological developments.

Advantages of TOPAIR Design

Modular Concept The design follows the principle of modularity. This allows different options with regard to overall length, excitation, cooler arrangements and axis height. Vibration Isolation The decoupled construction of stator and casing limits the transmission of the core vibration, thereby achieving optimum noise suppression. Ease of transport The generator can be fully assembled in the factory, thereby minimizing the erection time on-site.
