May 10, 2013 Dear Sir/Madame, Greetings of Peace and Solidarity. Asia America Initiative (AAI) is a non-profit charitable and educational organization dedicated to promoting humanitarian ideals, providing direct assistance to impoverished communities plagued by violence and mediating in conflict-plagued areas throughout the Asia-Pacific region. In the Philippines, AAI is networking private humanitarian and educational organizations in support of the peace process in Muslim Mindanao. These grassroots efforts are intended to enhance the quality of life; reinforce opportunities for men and women, provide alternatives to conflict and to deny militant networks the ability to recruit. In addition, AAI has four (4) Development for Peace Program components to wit: Health, Education, Livelihood, and Peace Mediation (HELP) that are essential for the achievement of lasting peace. Furthermore, as AAI continues to build a Culture of Peace in the Filipino Society, Lakbay para sa KapaYapaAn sa EDSA as part of AAIs Building a Culture of Peace through Arts Program was conceptualized and will be launched on May 26, 2013 at 6:00AM where 1000 volunteers are encouraged to join. The target is more or less 3,770 meters, which according to research would be the longest peace mural in Asia and even in the whole world. The first Guinness record attempt for the worlds longest mural for peace was back in 2009 in Chile where young graffiti artists from around the world converged in the countrys capital. Chiles Wall for Peace was around 1,000 meters of graffitis over one weekend, with the participation of between 300 and 500 young artists on themes to do with peace, nuclear disarmament and non-violence. Lakbay para sa KapaYapaAn sa Edsa is a good example of public-private partnership. This project generally aims to create more awareness about how every Filipino can be part of the peace-building process and bring peace into the consciousness of the Filipino Society. Just like in all AAIs adopted schools in Lanao del Sur, Peace Mural Painting was conducted in cooperation with Mr. AG Sano, AAI Arts for Peace Ambassador and Lead Convener of Dolphins Love Freedom Movement to elucidate the beauty and colors of peace with an aim of creating more awareness on the aspect of peace building as part of AAIs Peace Education Program. This is meant to be a long-term program of government institutions, nongovernment organizations, youth and peace advocacy groups, schools and corporations that can also be replicated in different areas. Through this effort, we can change the perception of millions of people passing through EDSA everyday and make them realize about the importance of appreciating our culture, values, history and peace in our daily lives. The Peace Mural designs are centered on three (3) themes: (a) Applying the Filipino culture of Bayanihan to achieve peace in the everyday lives
The Asia America Initiative (AAI) is a non- profit charitable and educational organization dedicated to conducting model humanitarian field programs with community forums to find solutions. AAIs mission is to build hope and empower communities affected by armed co nflict and severe poverty. We are a catalyst for cross-cultural and international cooperation to promote peace, justice and social-economic progress.
