Group Convenor

To recruit, build and maintain the group and support Amnesty International Australia (AIA) across the WA region. Wendy Watson, Community Organiser WA Community Organiser Activisim support Coordinators Branch Committee office volunteers other relevant community organisations 1 day per week initially. Need to liaise monthly with Community Organiser to provide status updates and projected plans. Is required to attend all events involving the network/group. A commitment of 12mths is preferred and a commitment to allowing 2/4 weeks to handover the role and implement a succession plan when necessary.

Desirable Skills/ Attributes:

Commitment to defending human rights Good understanding of AIA framework, structures and policies Interest in enhancing public knowledge of human rights Strong organizational and time management skills Good communication and writing skills Ability to project plan and oversee the implementation of projects Initiative and enthusiasm Ability to work well with, motivate and encourage other people Drivers license desirable

Task Description

To implement AIAs campaign priorities in collaboration with Community Campaigner. Contact person for enquiries about the Group To chair the group meetings, including keeping records of meetings in the form of agenda and minutes Recruit and retain activists, including identifying strengths and areas of interest within the group membership Liaising/report to the Branch Committee Maintenance of the Group database and to provide quarterly updates of the database to the CC Plan and implement campaign activities and events. For example organize and support the group to participate in letter writing activities, including Urgent Actions, hold stalls, conduct events. Communicate with other AIA teams, and networks Conduct quarterly evaluation reports To represent AI as the spokesperson for the group, including correctly representing AIA in public forums Actively participate in training that AIA provides To formalize succession planning within the group Initiating opportunities to grow activism in AIA and for the establishment of new contacts To identify community based opportunities for the group to participate in and to build relationships and networks with other social justice organizations Commit to the group for a minimum of six months and 1-3 hours a week. Assist in delivering campaign outcomes & targets through holding events and activities. Participate in planning, reporting and evaluation processes Attend monthly meetings Respect the democratic processes of AI Work within the framework of AIA plans and policies of the movement, including this role statement. Treat with respect other AI members Correctly represent the position of AI in any public forum. Be willing to participate in training that AI offers
