AC09301 Climate Change and Global Warming so Alarming (Seminar: April 20,2013 )

According to the World Wide for Nature, the Philippines is considered as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. The Big Impact starts to experience extreme weather changes and some extreme droughts and food Scarcity. The climate change that we experience gives sympathy to all Filipinos to face it. Most affected are those living in coastal communities and the lower urban communities that lack awareness on proper disaster preparedness measures to take. As it is, climate change impacts have not only intensified from an imbalanced natural eco-system, but every attack has become

unpredictable. WWFs Climate Change and Energy Programme focuses its work on increasing the resiliency of vulnerable areas through local stakeholder engagement, capacity-building exercises, public-private cooperation and policy-making that paves the way for the implementation of the countrys National Climate Change Action Plan, they said. Working with the Government and other NGOs like Philippine Climate Change Commission, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the National Economic and Development Authority, and other key agencies, we strive to ensure that adaptation measures are implemented on the ground.

Because of this lecture series given by the WFF, I gain a lot of learnings about climate change, signs, cause and effect, preventive measures, and a lot more. But I was so focused to listen to the part when the speaker discussed about Gaano ka ka-Plastik?. To summarize the discussion, plastics #2, #4 and #5 are considered safe. Plastic #1 is safe too but should not be re-used due to the risk of growing bacteria. Any other plastic should be used with extreme caution, especially around food or drink. The risk is even greater when heating food. For microwaving in particular, remember that microwave safe containers arent necessarily healthy. They just wont melt. In general, its better to avoid microwaving plastic entirely and stick to glass. We need to be aware for this Climate Change because it is too fast that it normally does. Each and everyone need to take part to fight the Global Warming. People mostly agree that something needs to be done about global warming and climate change. However, most people dont seem to d o something really significant in their live even if the situation is urgent. PANAHON NA!
