CALLING ALL YOUNG MUSICIANS !

Playtime Summer Music Course

Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August 2009
Course Director
Julie Burt BA Hons (Mus), PGCE

Now in its eighth year, Playtime Summer Music Course will take place from 3rd – 7th August 2009.
Led by Julie Burt, this is a fun-packed week for children who love music, based at the Crescent
School in Rugby.

The Course

Strike Up The Band!

This is an orchestra course for children aged 6-16 who play any instrument to a standard ranging
from of Grade 1 to Grade 8. The orchestra rehearses and performs music ranging from the classics
to film themes and pop songs, and the music is specially chosen to suit the ability of the individual
players. The music in previous years has included:

The James Bond Theme Norman American Patrol Glenn Miller.

The Dam Busters Coates The Magnificent Seven Bernstein
633 Squadron Goodwin Mission Impossible Schifrin
Wallace and Gromit Nott Jurassic Park Williams

There is also the opportunity to learn a variety of songs in the ”Rock ‘n’ Roll Hour,” which this year
will feature more songs and more emphasis on vocal technique. However, those who don’t like
singing needn’t worry – every rock’n’roll song needs a rhythm section and there will be a variety of
percussion instruments available!

TIMING
Each day begins at 9.30 am and finishes at 3.30 pm, except for the last day, which will end after the
concert, at about 4.30 pm. I will provide drinks and biscuits for the morning break, but children should
bring their own packed lunch each day.

FREE TIME!
As well as rehearsing the music all the children can take part in fun and games. These may include
quizzes, videos and DVDs, and a treasure hunt on the final day. The emphasis is on fun – after all, it
is a holiday activity!

All the week’s music is performed in a “grand concert” for parents and friends on the Friday
afternoon, and all children are invited to play solos or in small groups if they would like to.

The cost for each child will be £160.
