Utilize the reading time. Shortlist what you know the best in the choice-based questions. The reading time may also be utilized to read the passages for comprehension Answer the comprehension questions precisely. Be accurate in choosing the correct words for vocabulary. Do not give two options for the words Draft notes with a proper title and construct short sentences. Give sub-headings and indent to indicate paragraph change Use abbreviations restricting the number as specified in the question Draw a proper box for the key

For writing, follow the correct format and adhere to the word limit. Be relevant and answer the questions using grammatically correct expressions. You may make a rough column but ensure this is not at the cost of time. Knowledge of current topics from various fields is of immense help in this section Thorough reading of the text is imperative. Never follow the selective-study strategy In case of reference-tocontext questions, ensure that there is no repetition of answers while attempting the various sub parts

Long answer questions Dont write in general terms mentioning merely the story line. While writing a character sketch, mention the qualities and support it with evidence from the textbook Value-based question This emphasizes the value and key messages intermingled with the textual content. It is a 5 mark question which is evaluated on the basis of content and expression. Students must adhere to the word limit 100 words Legible handwriting, neat work, leaving space between the answers and underlining value points has a positive impact on the examiner Never allocate time inappropriately to the various sections It is imperative to solve at least 5 sample papers Attempt the question paper in a sequence 18-02-2013

TIPS FOR CLASS XII CHEMISTRY

Know the marks each chapter carries. For example, Pblock elements alone have a weightage of more than 11%. It includes preparation of substances like chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, oxides & oxoacids of nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur and halogens. At the last minute, focus on oxidizing,

reducing properties & some special properties of these compounds. Students are also expected to focus on the structural aspect using VSEPR theory In organic chemistry, stress must be laid on the following name reactions. Brown Hydroboration, Carbylamine Reaction (Isocyanide Test), Cannizzaro Reaction, Clemmensen Reduction, Coupling Reaction, Rosenmunds Reaction, Riemer-Tiemann Reaction, Fries Rearrangement, Friedel-Crafts Acylation Reaction, Gabriel Phthalimide Reaction, Hinsbergs Test, Hoffmann Bromamide Reaction, Sandmeyers Reaction, Diazotization. These not only help in organic conversions but also in solving word problems. Distinction between pair of compounds and mechanism of organic reactions for one or two marks is generally asked in the examination Revisit Class XI concepts like hyperconlugation, inductive effect & resonance or mesomeric effect with reference to organic compounds to master reasoning questions. This helps in understanding the basic character of amines, acidity of carboxylic acids relative stability of molecules and reactivity of molecules From the physical chemistry portion, basic laws such as Raoults law, Henrys law, Kohlrauschs law, degree of dissociation, problems based on Nernst equation, colligative properties involving association and dissociation (Vant Hoff factor) should be thoroughly practised. Not more than 12 marks numerical problems are expected in the board paper Approximately 10 marks are reserved for higher order thinking skill questions Value-based questions are expected from any chapter of the prescribed syllabus Last three chapters can be really scoring as these constitute slightly more than 14% of the total paper

If you have followed a study routine and have been revising your class work, there should be no need to worry. Try to keep yourself calm, positive and confident TIPS FOR CLASS XII PHYSICS 16-02-2013

Be conversant with the syllabus and work on weak areas Practise board question papers from 2008 to 2012 Read NCERT textbooks thoroughly to prepare for short and very short questions from each unit. Refer it for diagrams and graphs Keep enough time for written practice of derivations Time factor must be kept in mind while preparing previous years question papers. Assess your preparedness, keeping in mind the marking scheme Be focused on the following topics as they carry almost 70% of the marks electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effect of electric current, EMI & AC, optics, and semiconductors Pay more attention to the concept than to the question. Practice of numerical is essential to be thorough with concepts

Circuit diagrams, ray diagrams, graphs and diagrams of devices must be practised with proper labelling and attention to minute details Answers should be to the point and according to the demand of the question. Irrelevant and unwanted text must be avoided Make sure you know all the formulae 07-02-2013

TIPS FOR CLASS XII MATHEMATICS

To score well, it is important to complete NCERT textbook. Almost the entire paper is based on it. Students attending institutes and coaching centres are given different textbooks, worksheets and handouts. This may confuse the student Once NCERT textbook is mastered all solved and unsolved problems students can consult other books to sharpen concepts. Generally, 20 marks are accorded to High Order Thinking Skill questions or HOTS. Studying from other books can help tackle these Learning formulae is not as difficult as applying them at the right place, eg, in integration-by-parts, students have to be able to identify the first function and the second. Application comes easily only with practice For a word problem, first read the question and make sure you comprehend it. Get an idea of what is being asked. First write down the information given, then work out what is to be found. Convert problem into a mathematical relationship While preparing, make a separate booklet for all the formulae you have to remember, the main concepts and typical problems. You dont need this while studying chapter-wise but in last few days before board exam, when youre tested on the entire syllabus, its a great help Solve plenty of model test-papers During exam, use first 15 minutes to read questions and tick the ones you know well For questions with internal choices, select the question judiciously. Sometimes within internal choices, one problem will take longer to solve than the other. Even if you know both, choose the shorter one to save time For one-mark questions, dont bother to show method of solving. Steps dont carry marks in these, only answers do Solve the paper sectionwise. Let all questions in a particular section be together

TIPS FOR CLASS XII ACCOUNTANCY FOR REVISION

14-02-2013

Accountancy question paper to carry 25 questions instead of 23 Value-based questions will carry 4 marks. Dont just mention the value but give a statement in support of each value. Lay stress on values of transparency,

sharing, objectivity, equality, accuracy, consistency, honesty, equity and reliability Companys balance sheet to be prepared as per Revised Schedule VI of Companies Act, 1956. To guide students, CBSE has released two supplements. Go through these thoroughly Do not spend too much time on any one question. It is not wise to leave any question To begin revision, choose the topics that are easy and appeal to you the most. Practise (always in writing) and test yourself rigorously

Spend some time in reading the textual questions to understand them better. Usually, small details like rate of interest, dates of starting the firm, date of retirement, fixed and fluctuating capitals, discount and premium on issue of shares and debentures make a big impact on the answer Divide the sentences in the question using comas to understand them correctly and solve them accurately

Learn the accounting treatment for various adjustments and practise their application from CBSE sample and previous years papers. Schedule at least twothree practice papers in between 10.15am and 1.30pm (including reading time) the actual exam timings Give special attention to calculation of sacrificing ratio, gaining ratio and new profit sharing ratio, journal entries of debenture redemption reserve, calculation of amount of surplus and refund in share capital, calculation of capital reserve, calculation of shareholders funds, longterm debt, liquid assets and average stock in ratio analysis

FOR EXAM Be systematic. Do not overwrite or cut Follow a sequence write answers in ascending or descending order. Do not shuffle Do not mix questions of one part with another. This is strictly prohibited by CBSE Show proper working notes. Calculations carry marks if they have been asked for specifically in the question Write the formulae even if you are not sure of final answer. Formulae carry marks like in ratio analysis Do not leave any question, even if there is error in question 12-02-2013

TIPS FOR CLASS XII BUSINESS STUDIES FOR REVISION

The paper format has changed; you should be aware of marks the questions carry Practise at least two papers in a week. It will help you know your strengths and weaknesses and also help in time management

Start revising the topics you are already thorough in. This will boost your confidence Marketing management and financial management both commanding 14 and 12 marks, respectively are best done early Practise last two years board papers plus CBSE sample papers Stick to the NCERT textbook and leave no chapter. There is internal choice only in 6-mark questions

FOR EXAM Preferably start by answering 6-mark questions. Write them in 200-250 words by properly highlighting your points. Unless otherwise instructed, write at least 6 points for a 6-mark question with requisite explanation Supplement answers with diagrams and examples where possible Difference between two terms should be presented in tabular form giving basis of difference

Questions should be attempted in descending order of their weightage. For questions with 1, 3 & 4 marks, students write too much and lose track of time, leaving insufficient time for questions with 5 & 6 marks Use the 15 minutes given before the paper starts to recollect answers to one-mark questions Try not to leave any question unanswered Answer all parts of a question at one place only Try not to exceed the word limit 11-02-2013

TIPS FOR CLASS XII ECONOMICS

Work on HOTS (high order thinking skill) questions. These are reasoning-based questions and are important

You should know how to answer the value-based questions which now account for 5% of the score. You should be aware of social and economic issues and be able to connect that to whatever value is required. Answers require knowledge of the subject, mere impressions will not do Underline or highlight the main points

Diagrams and examples are crucial. Diagrams should be properly labelled. Examples should be picked up from day-to-day experience

You should be fully conversant with current issues excess demand, inflation, FDI. There are always three-four questions in macro-economics based on these Make sure you know and understand the concepts underlying each numerical. Numericals must be practised thoroughly Be careful to write every step and the formulae used. Every step carries marks Answer of the numerical question should be boxed or underlined Revise after writing the copy
