The DFG graduate programme 1599/1 Dynamics of Space and Gender: discovering conquering inventing narrating at the universities

The interdisciplinary graduate programme, a collaboration between the universities of Kassel and Gttingen, aims to investigate the interrelations of space and gender constituents as they are constructed in present-day and historical societies, both in and outside of Europe: doing space while doing gender. In three main interdisciplinary research areas, we explore the dimensions of embodiment, location, and entanglement. Research focuses on both global and local phenomena in the context of gender studies. Participating subjects include history, English/ Canadian, German, and Romance literatures, sociology, catholic theology, ethnology, cultural anthropology/ European ethnology, medical ethics and the history of medicine, and Arabic/ Islamic studies. For further information see: http://www.raum-geschlecht.gwdg.de/ Requirements Successful applicants will have a distinctly above-average degree and a PhD project which fits with the programmes interdisciplinary approach. The working language at the graduate school is German; because of the international research topics and visiting researchers, proficiency in English is mandatory. International applicants further need a very good command of German (level B2/C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or equivalent). Direct supervision will be provided by members of the graduate programmes academic staff.
