DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEXT WHERE THE MATERIAL IS USED

CONTEXT A. Describe the context where you currently teaching The material to analyze in this work is named Zoom in 1 published by MM Publications and created by Mitchell and Parker in London to ESL students. It is used in first grade English course at Grow and Learn school; a bilingual school in Paraiso neighborhood. Students are in a range of ages from 6 to 8 years old. The ancient students who graduate from this pre-school already knew some words and commands in English before start first grade course. The school offered good facilities in order to carry out listening and visual extra materials that the book has.

CONTEXT It a six-level primary English course especially designed for children who are complete beginners. The proficiency level is leading to A1. ZOOM IN 1 does not require a previous language learning experience of the target language. It was not designed to a special social class. The book does not make distinction in gender. The preferred learning styles are auditory and visual ones.

WHO IS THE MATERIAL INTENDED TO The book was designed to A1 students in primary school. The language is presented by units: eighteen four-page units divided into two lessons. It has revision units; grammar and pronunciation review every six units (grammar is not showed in an explicit way) and special sections on crosscultural information leading to projects. Also, the course offers in addition to the book, full color Workbook with stickers and an interactive CD-ROM to reinforce lesson through stimulating

material that includes stories, songs, games and karaoke. The book is leading by a communicative methodology through the presentation of real situations that take place in the foreign context. Skills are developed in a natural way. First stages of the lessons point at reading and listening competences and then, at speaking and writing. Authors conceive the language in a functional conception as a way to communication. AIMS WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF YOUR COURSE? The aim of the course is to catch childrens interest to learn English by promoting interaction to the language and developing listening, reading, speaking and writing basic skills according to the Colombian standards. WHAT ARE THE AIMS? ACTUALLY WHAT THEY ARE SAID TO BE The goal of the book is to provide students and teachers everywhere with high quality, innovative educational materials. The book strives to increase the effectiveness in the classroom to learning the foreign language.
