The Last Humans of Humankind

-sketchesThis is the story of a man who got lost on an island during his summer holiday, got separated from his family and never reached the boat to the mainland. The story unfolds as an eruption of staggering proportions from a super-volcano in Siberia, similar but much bigger than the one under Yellowstone National Park, caused people to flee the area and abandon a couple of nuclear waste cooling facilities which fueled the propagation of the compounds. The atoll where the man resides is situated where Earths crust is very thin and the magnetic fluctuations from the mantel creates a barrier which protects him from the nuclear radiation. To call it a freak moment, a category 5 hurricane is set to reach the island and the ash caused by the eruption is cleared round the archipelago. Earth has only one human left standing on its surface but he is not alone. The International Space Station has problems with the navigational system as the blast prior to the eruption consequently affected the shuttles on-board computer, and several other systems are shutting down, leaving the stranded astronauts un-capable of getting safely back to Earth without help from the ground. What makes this story out of the ordinary is the struggle of one man to rescue himself but also to help the astronauts get safely back to Earth as quickly as possible, dew to the oxygen tanks which have a depletion time of 3 weeks. As he reaches Australia, after two weeks of navigating through the great barrier reef, atoll by atoll, island by island, the situation on the space station gets critical when the astronauts try to ration their air. A master alarm goes off when carbon dioxide reaches critical level. In some levels the hull integrity got breached by small rocks from the eruption and the astronauts calculate another week of breathable air including the suits. The man is struggling to find a working vehicle but he comes to the conclusion that by changing the solenoids he can get a car moving once again. In the Australian outback he finds a satellite dish and a working radio station which was used during the American space program. He tries to communicate with someone but what he gets is distortion and complete radio silence for a good amount of time. This doesnt shatter his moral and he switches randomly on different channels and issues an S.O.S. On the space station the navigator hears something in the speaker, something like a murmur and tries to isolate the frequency and then he establishes contact with the man on the ground. From here on, all the crew gets acquainted with the man and helps him build a portable radio emitter. He is taught how to fly a commercial plane in order to reach Cape Canaveral, where he can guide the shuttle safely back to Earth therefore being able to set things right and establish a viable colony.
