ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

A. SPIRIT (DISTILLED ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES)

Beverages of higher alcohol content, produced by fermentation followed by distillation. Spirits is the term given for the type of drinks that are unsweetened and distilled. The content of alcohol in spirits is 20% and above.

B. WINE (BREWED BEVERAGES)

Beverages of lower alcohol content, produced by fermentation of sugar- or starchcontaining plant material. Wines are very popular in several cultures and are used as an accompaniment with many foods. They lend a different flavor to the food if teamed with the right kinds. Wines are mostly made from grapes. These grapes are crushed using different types of yeast. The yeast is responsible for converting the sugars from the grapes into alcohol. The fermentation process that is involved in brewing wines is longer. It could be aged for several months or even years. The more it is fermented, the better it's flavors run. The alcoholic content of wines is around 9%-22%.

C. BEER (BREWED BEVERAGES)

Beer is probably synonymous with alcohol. It is widely consumed throughout the world and is a part of several world cultures. Beer is produced by fermenting and brewing different starches of cereals like wheat, maize, corn and rice. But the most popular is malted barley. To lend beer its characteristic bitter taste, hop cones are added. They also act as preservatives for the beer. The alcoholic content of beer is around 2% to 8%. But in some, it can go up to 20% as well.

D. LIQUEUR (BLENDED LIQUOR)

Liqueurs are flavored spirits prepared by infusing certain woods, fruits, or flowers, in either water or alcohol, and adding sugar, etc. Others are distilled from aromatic or flavoring agents. Means: Fire Water (Polish) or Green Wine (Russia) . Vodka is a distilled beverage and one of the world's most popular liquors. Sementara di Amerika menggunakan proof system, dimana tingkatan proof adalah dua kali ABV, contoh: untuk 80 Proof kadar alcoholnya 40%. Istilah Proof sendiri muncul pada era perang dunia dulu diambil dari kata Prooven yang artinya terbukti suatu uji untuk men getahui tingkat atau degree kadar alcohol dari suatu minuman. Mereka mencampur serbuk mesiu dengan minuman beralcohol secara merata. Dan kemudian dibakar. Bila api yang menyala berwarna Biru berarti minuman tersebut overproof (kadar alcoholnya sangat tinggi) kalau nyala apinya merah/kuning berarti kadar alkoholnya sedang. Layering means to pour liquor in a drink in layers, usually with the heaviest on the bottom.

Wash, Mixer A wash, or mixer, is a non-alcoholic beverage used in mixing cocktails. Examples: Cola, orange juice, sweet and sour mix, soda water, or tonic. Rim To rim a glass, coat the rim of a glass with salt or sugar. Examples: Margarita and Lemon Drop

Jigger Pony

A jigger is a shot-sized cup used to measure alcohol. Example: Add a jigger of peach schnapps

Chaser, Back A beer or non-alcoholic drink served alongside a strong shot or cocktail is called a chaser or a back. Example: Bloody Mary with a beer chaser Twist
