CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS JOB DESCRIPTION


Definition: Clinical Instructor defined as a licensed nurse who have completed training and recognized for their potential or demonstrated excellence in teaching quality and clinical competency.

Clinical Instructors Role: Coordinate with the preceptors and hospital resource person regarding the student competencies may or may not perform. Coordinate with the preceptors regarding students assignments and to give a copy of rotational plan or communication letters indicating the name and level of the students prior to their duty schedules. Coordinate with preceptors regarding the course syllabus so that the preceptors also can make their clinical focus base on it.

Workload: Must work in the college and clinical setting at 40 hours per week or as required by the college. Must supervised the student in the clinical settings and properly disseminate the written requirements submitted every week.

The following are the main job responsibility of the Clinical Instructor to wit:
1. ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY:

a) Maintains faculty expectations as required by the UoH College of Nursing. b) Demonstrates and teaches patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students c) Instructs students in principles and application of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to nursing: d) Lecture to students, conduct and supervise laboratory work, issue assignments, and direct seminars and panels. e) Prepare students to safely and effectively perform clinical skills. f) Prepare laboratory for activities and to clean up laboratory after activities. g) Prepare and give examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintain records of student classroom and clinical experience. h) Utilize instructional technology as appropriate in the teaching and learning process i) Collaborate with academic supervisors regarding course syllabus modification, updating references for theory and practice j) Collaborate with preceptor or head nurse regarding student issues/problems/progress. k) Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.

2. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITY : a) The Clinical Instructor must wear his / her lab coat and UoH ID during hospital visit b) Must be in appropriate attire, neat and clean always. (Appropriate business-like apparel is to be worn under the lab coat). c) Supervise student nurse and demonstrate patient care in clinical unit of hospital. d) Responsible for producing and distributing course learning objectives and student schedules to the clinical facilities prior to student attendance at the facility. e) Coordinate with the preceptors with regards to student assignment, learning experiences and clinical competencies. f) Coordinate with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving teaching and nursing practice. g) Ensure all required student documentation is presented to the respective preceptors. h) Direct student learning experiences as appropriate for assigned area. i) Complete student clinical evaluations.

3. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY: a) b) c) d) e) f) Attend course meetings as required. Conference with and counsel students as indicated. Evaluate student assignments and provide constructive feedback. Participate in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline Participate in course evaluation and clinical site evaluation. Coordinate with the training department regarding student clinical activities and submit a copy of student assignment. g) Submit students weekly evaluation report to the office of Deputy Dean for training and administration. h) Communicate with College Dean / Deputy of Dean for training and development affairs on issues related to students, clinical facilities, and or preceptor concerns.
