    After 50 years, Madison Square Garden’s (MSG) special arena permit has expired, presenting NYC with an opportunity to rethink Midtown. Under the NYC Planning Commission’s standard practice, a new permit would allow MSG to operate on top of Penn Station in perpetuity. This could permanently preclude any significant improvement to the transit hub, saddling future generations with a failed Penn Station. MAS has invited some of New York’s most well-known and respected design firms to re-envision New York’s Penn Station – the busiest train station in North America – and Madison Square Garden. A new Penn Station and a new arena will be an economic engine for New York City – creating thousands of jobs, unlocking billions of dollars in additional private investment, making millions of commutes a year faster and more pleasant.
